Hey Chris, love your videos! I would love to see a video explaining the different PoE types and how they work with or not work with each other. I just changed my entire network over to unifi and had an issue with a nano switch powering a few cameras. I have it figured out now, but if I wanted to upgrade my switch, an overview of the different PoE types and compatibility’s would be awesome!

Hi Chris. We've just bought 3 of those and 12 flexes to power all the access points and cameras in our new campsite in Croatia. With these we can bring power and internet to 3 spots inside the campsite and then cover large enough radius around each switch to have roughly 30 access points and a lot of juice left over for cameras.

I just had to get one of these for a temporary set up that’s only gonna be used two times a year each for five days and this was one of the most perfect solutions so I didn’t have to drop a bunch of POE adapters. I have to run a bunch of sector antennas as well as multiple different access points with different filters and provisions. The first event is in September and that’s protesting the net work for the big one in April and this Beautiful thick heavy device is going to be making all the difference especially if a single zone has multiple devices that need POE

Mines under half load and just keep on going and survived the 110F Texas summer with 0 issues, yes the casing was quite hot to the touch but never miss a beat. I currently have a Light Beam, UAP Mesh, G3 Dome , 4 G3 bullets, and 1 ULed AT panel connected to it. Now all my 24v devices i have to use the AF to AT converters but other then that its rock solid.

One of the places I used to work had a trucking warehouse as customer. It was cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Forklifts hauling a$$ around all over the place. More than a few times we had a forklift smash one of the heavy duty metal equipment cabinets and destroy the network gear inside. The forklift drivers would "temporarily" stack things in red zones. This would of been great for that.

Hey Chris, I actually ordered this for a client. He has a very large property with a few guest cottages in various locations. So i'm running a Flex Switch from each PoE++ Port. He has 6 cottages around 250/275 feet a part from each other (each cottage with Flex and connected to that Flex is a FlexHD AP, Mitel IP Phone & Unifi Camera). the other 2 Ports ( one running Down to the dock for his boat with Camera & UAP AC M Access Point and the other will connect to his Cloud Key Gen2 when he get it. Right now the controller is running on my laptop. I'm very impressed with this Switch.. it is a Beast. I think Unifi needs to create a 16 port Switch for Small Business/ home user with 8ports PoE +, 8 Ports PoE++ and 2/4 SFP + Ports. Who could ask for anything more. Traditional 24/48 port switches are overkill and 8 ports just doesn't give you enough. 16 is the sweet spot.

It would have been great, if you made a video showcasing use-case for multiple distributions of PoE using the two switches shown here, perheaps even with af>24v passive with ER-X or Powerbeam antena in place of a router, emulating a situation, where ISP didn't bother to get Internet all the way in to the building. As to where would I deploy this? Well, coupled with a good UPS in camera systems. This way, entire camera system can be powered from central location and is also power-backed, allowing total of 24 cameras per this switch, if it wouldn't exceed power budget. Not to mention blackouts aren't that big of a headache.

I just purchased two usw-flex switches. I have POE cameras in areas where I can't get power to them. My plan is to use the usw switches in two outdoor locations and feed a single cable each of those from a POE switch. On testing before deployment, I plugged a usw to a 60-watt Poe injector and connected four cameras. These worked fine in the daytime, as soon as IR turned on, two of the four went into reboot cycling. This industrial switch would be the perfect solution as an aggregation switch for the usw-flex. The unfi console shows the cameras using 7 watts. I connected cameras to one of my cisco poe switches and it reports 15.4 watts of usage. Interface Admin Oper Power Device Class Max (Watts) --------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ---- Gi0/1 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0 Gi0/2 auto on 7.0 Ieee PD 2 30.0 Gi0/3 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0 Gi0/4 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0 Gi0/5 auto on 15.4 Ieee PD 0 30.0 Gi0/6 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0 Gi0/7 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 30.0 Gi0/8 auto on 15.4 Ieee PD 4 30.0 The device on Gi0/2 is a flex mini. Nice to see it only uses 7 watts. Outside of spending $499 on this new switch what POE injector would you use?

I have 2 G3 pro and 1 UAP-AC-M on one corner of a building. One of the G3 Pro's is not working and I've narrowed the issue down to the cable. My choice is to rewire which would take a day and the rental of an off road capable cherry picker. Alternatively, plug a Flex into a known good cable, run a short cable to the cameras and power the Flex from the Industrial, 30 mins of work at best and cheaper than cherry picker rental.

This switch could go on a boat, in a bus or outdoor encloser etc. I hope that ubiqity will adopt the AirFiber to bt++, so they could be remote powered without an extra powerbrick or third venor switch. But for the XG devices I would use a US‑XG‑6POE, because if you may exceed the 1G Uplink on the Switch and even worse on the uplink. If 8 AP's are connectet and everyone is on load you have to move away 6-8gbit without a 10G port. If 1G to the AP is ok, I would also consider going with a 24 port gen2 switch, also 8x bt++ and 10G Uplinks.

I'd like to see more 10gig options from Unifi. That's great that you could power several of the XG panels. It's still not a viable option to use this switch being all gigabit and those AP's being 10gig capable. You'd be seriously hampering the abilities of the access points. The UniFi Switch 6 XG PoE is meant for those. Unifi has yet to bridge the gap when it comes to multi-gigabit connections. Once you are connecting 10gig to end devices you need to start looking at 40gig or 100gig uplinks and I don't see Unifi moving that direction yet. I could see this used to power multiple PTZ cameras out in the field most of them only require a 100mbps connection which would make the 1gig uplink adequate. Make this switch with 10gig uplinks and you have a winner. SFP+ ports would be a bonus.

I have customers in the natural resource mining vertical. It would be a good place however, the guys who program the PLC prefer using specialized industrial switches that have been well tested in those environments. Those switches that have only a few ports but costs multi thousand dollars. We can't even convince them to have a dozen or more lower cost switches on hand as replacement. They want things that won't fail or not very likely to fail. Paying upfront the huge costs is worth it in their calculations as any downtime is extremely expensive and the environment is not forgiving. Think of those switches handling communications for machinery that is 2 to 3 floors high!

Normally I don't think we need 10Gb uplinks on every switch, but in this case, I agree. I work in the automotive industry and could very well imagine the use of this switch. A fanless model is particularly important in this dusty and harsh environment. With this switch we could network and monitor our systems. So far, only the individual components of a system have been networked. In this way, we could network all systems and, for example, see all malfunctions at a central workstation. Please keep it up and have a nice Christmas time.

Considering that one hardened BT 60W injector runs you over $100, it's really not that bad of a deal. The definitely has a niche market share but as someone in the high-end IP camera industry this definitely has a use case.

You obviously don't buy industrial switches That's about the going rate for a basic 4-8 port unmanaged industrial switch..

$499 for an industrial switch is cheap. Working with Allen Bradley / Rockwell devices this is a cheap device. Not really any use for me, I need DIN rail or rack mount to support PLC devices in process control networks.
