This is a timelapse of the engine replacement on my 1961 Unimog 404 DoKa. The new engine was packaged in a time capsule crate in 1984! The film shows the teardown of the truck all the way through the startup and test drive of the truck with new engine.
Music:
Violin Sonata No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24 "Spring" (Beethoven) by Corey Cerovsek, violin; Paavali Jumppanen, piano

Hey, I saw this video about this guy, working on a stinking Unimog, changing the engine... And just imagine the music. Some classic shit!!.... Seriously, this is awesome, love the combination of the "rough" guy doing this dirty work all by himself, but there is beautiful music in the background, not the usual heavy metal stuff. You did a great job, and I absolutely adore the subtlety hidden in this video. Keep on moggin.

Thanks man! I really appreciate this comment.. made my day! Yeah, I try to do something different for music as the heavy metal stuff is just so overdone and has no soul. The classical, I find makes the film enjoyable and relaxing to watch every time.

Your wide range of skills...amazing. the fact that you cut and weld on the ground makes me crazy to watch. Also the use of the flap wheels...ugh!! those things are terrible... lol Come work for me in my fab shop in Co. @desertpir8
@desertpir8 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you can still buy these time capsules! I get all my parts from Expedition Imports in California. They bought out all the Unimog parts warehouses in europe, so you can still get engines packed away like new. Fun fact... the engines also come in an air-drop crate (I also have one of these in the backyard). It is pressurized to 1.5 bar with nitrogen to preserve the engine when they built them in the 1980s. When you open them up they are exactly as they were the day they were built.
@poplaurentiu4148
@poplaurentiu4148 4 жыл бұрын
@@desertpir8 Is packed like that because Unimogs were tough & used a lot in many Army forces for many different things, so when they got broken, need a new engine specially for military all parts need to reach in best condition and if it get shipped by boats it need to be free of corrosive sea salt any moisture or humidity, that is why inside the military crate is the engine wrapped in a pressurized cell same story is for shipment of the front & rear portal axles, clutches & gearboxes & driveshafts..

Hi desertpir8!!! Wonderfull video! Congratulations for it and for the really impressive major replacement you've done. I work since many years in Mercedes Benz Argentina. I've got the pleasure of assembling the last argentinean produced Unimogs in 1994. Yes, some 416. Very nice, versatile and reliable machine. Something in your video got my attention: the engine you worked with was a gasoline one. I didn't know that there were produced Gasoline Unimogs, since here -and I I think mostly worldwide- engines are diesel's. Well, once again, nice Truck. Congrats! Best regards Dario
