Back in the early 90s they folded the tongue over to reveal the Air Jordan patch right-side up, it was a "thing" back then, some folded them over and put a safety pin to hold it down and some just tucked it under the laces...this is a 'nod' to those old school styles when the AJ4 first came out..if you read Union's description they mention that the thread was put there so it could easily be cut off....

Was about to comment this... but also the materials and colorways i think are based on sketches from Tinker Hatfield, a neutral unfinished/painted color for the midsole and outsole.. mesh panels to mimic the air max 1 of the time. Yeah these arent bad at all.. but id never be able to cop for retail and these arent the shoes that id pay resale for.

I could tell from the early releases the tongue was folded down and actually decided I'd probably like em a lot with a normal 4 tongue. So when Union confirmed you could cut the stitching, I was all on board.

Won my pair of guava ice on release day, hopefully it gets to me in one piece 🤞🏼 Back in the days when those so called “hypebeasts” were bashing them to be hedious I actually liked them for its uniqueness from the J4s of late. And they brought back the folded tongue which was meant to be folded to reveal the AIR JORDAN tag underneath it. People need to know a bit about history to appreciate retros. And was glad union made it easier for us real sneakerheads to cop rather than let those reseller bots kill the market.

These should be worth more than the black ones since these are the Union exclusive colorway and therefore much more limited in stock.

I feel like people that were upset about the tongue just didn’t know that people would fold the tongues over on 4s back in the day. I was aware and figured that there was gonna be a design element to allow for the tongue to fold back up.

I have the desert moss colourway I unrolled the tongue on the left shoe threw in a purple lace, and the Teal laces on right shoe, and I absolutely love it. Thinking of getting these. Throw on one blue lace and one red Lace.

Had no idea the tongue was actually stitched down...I just thought there was a stitch line on top of the tongue to give the appearance of when flapped down, so you could still flap it up. Interesting...

The yellow netting is dope because you wont notice it yellowing. And in 4-6 years the white netting gets yellow, which sucks especially on an expensive shoe.

It’s so funny to me when I hear folks say the Jordan 1 is all time favorite when in fact it’s a lie. During the big and baggy Jordan 1’s sat on shelves in stores and literally retail was between $90-$120. Jordan Fusions sold faster than retro 1’s

yep... I used to buy them for $60-100 off Craigslist cause nobody wanted them. Everybody was on 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s & 11s for the most part. The 1s only started getting mainstream love around 2015 & up lol

In the short run people are going to like the black pair more, but in the long run they're gonna like the Guava pair more. Guava pair is more unique and it flows better.

Love this colorway. Didn't like it in the pictures but in this video it looks really good. The tongue didn't bother me in the pre release pictures. Probably will be taking a L though as on every other Nike SNKRS release...

If they felt the need to incorporate the yellow stitching, they shouldve used a regular jordan 4 tongue and used yellow stitching to sew on the patch. Or use it where the wing is attached. Yellow stitching right along the bottom of the wing may be fire too.

I was just projecting before release that the black pair would be more popular. Guava is really only worth more because it didn’t release on SNKRS but that’s just my opinion. I’m glad I got a pair of the guavas they grew on me. Still love the black pair but don’t have them yet.

I was telling people from the jump, they simply just folded over the tongue and stitched it. People were saying its inside out and just half of a tongue. It was pretty obvious what they did. You could tell it was thicker from the images, and it was shorter, and the air jordan was right side up, which made it obvious.

Cody Roberts the best I can answer that is it varies on size and how early you get them before release. Other than that I’d trying it out for just a month if you’re really interested.

If this wasn't a collab with Union and if it wasn't a Nike/Jordan, I'd think these are some OshKosh/Raggity Ann and Andy kids shoes. Imagine handing these to Michael Jordan and Tinker Hatfield in 1989 and asking their opinions.

😂😂 yeah in today’s times that can be said about numerous collabs. I know these don’t compare to the AJ1 Unions but they’re not the absolute worst either, just my opinion.
