10 жыл бұрынUnion Pacific Steam Shop & UP 4014 Big Boy by Sunday afternoon the crowds had finally diminished enough the proud new owners are finally able to answer a few more questions from Articulation, Brakes, the Whistle's Air Compressor, Flange Oiler's to Stay Bolts (2 types) and more! And now the rails to restoration will begin. Many thanks to Rail Giants museum & UP Steam Crew making the Big Boy dream come true. As a guy born and raised in California, who has almost continuously seen the 4014 while growing up, it brings me to good tears to see the 4014, part of my home state for over 50 years, to be in the UP steam shops =)..

Nice one Skip. That was an excellent description of stay bolts, and all the other info the restoration team were giving out was very interesting. Keep them coming!

I had to pinch myself to make sure this is actually happening! To Ed Dickens and his crew, thank you all for the Safe Transit of 4014, and for your great attitude toward Safety! Thanks again to the Museum Staff in California who took such great care of their 'charge'-It really shows. This is tantamount to the first Space Shuttle Launch!

For some reason, I get the feeling Ed could talk all day about the steam engines, and enjoy doing it. One of these days I got to make the trip up there for this, just a long ways to go from North Texas.

About 10 years ago I drove up to the shop and got a nice tour. It was just a Tuesday, nothing special. Looks like the times have changed.

It's pretty cool how we both did a lot of the same shots in our videos. I thought about recording the UP steam guys talking about stuff on camera like you did, but I felt they might not appreciate that. But I guess they really don't care. Looks like you filmed this sunday, that explains why there don't seem to be quite as many people in your way. Definite thumbs up for me.

I hear you but I asked a couple of them and it was ok & it was a public open house. And I did both days actually, because it was just so Big and there was nothing I could think of that could come close to this. Thou some may go to Jerusalem for a pilgrimage, I prefer to travel to Cheyenne!

SteamUP Definitely the best time right now to come here and see the Big Boy. Especially since this is the first and only time we will see it in it's museum fresh condition. I liked Ed talking about the oilers. I wondered why it was such a mess under there.

The man you introduce as an old Big Boy Engineer is my Father, Kenneth Ames. He actually was a fireman on 4004 not an engineer but LOVED his various jobs at UP. He did however earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming and went on to work on the Gemini and Apolo programs as a government contractor. his last job was demilitarizing nerve agent for the DoD. he was also a hostler and was the only man to drive a big boy through the round house wall all the way to the cab. he did NOT get fired. Long story you must hear from him.
