Beautiful old home. When my grandmother died my brother discovered in her basement the old caste iron stove. refurbished it and turned it into a bar in his dining room. This chateau is dream.

Here in southern Ontario Canada, we pay about Cdn $4500/yr plus $5000 in taxes for 2100 Sq. ft.

Good question! The listing makes no mention of it coming furnished. Just like in the US, they often take their furnishings with them. Sometimes even the chandeliers right out of the ceiling!

That's one thing about most European countries, they don't tax you to death in property taxes like they do in the US. It's getting ridiculously, in many places when people retired, they can't afford to pay those taxes and have no choice but the sell their homes.

You are absolutely right! And with property taxes skyrocketing, so is homeowners insurance! I'm a real estate agent here in the US and I have had multiple home sellers approach me in the last year saying they can no longer afford their homes and they have to move out of town. It's so sad.

You did not mention the notaire fee which on this property is quite high. It’s relatively expensive to purchase a property with all the upfront costs, however, rather low once the property is yours. Chateaux on the other hand are always higher due to the primarily heating costs. I found the price stated to be reasonable, but, these days the guidelines being used are oftentimes from 2021.

Being prepared up front with understanding fees and costs is most important! You're right. As a real estate agent here in he United States, I sit down and explain with all of my buyers what they have ahead of them.

This property is awesome and very reasonably priced. Do you have any idea how long does it take to close a property like this? I was told that there might be a waiting period before closing.

I agree! It seems like a great price. And it's a unique place, for sure. Typically from the time you submit an offer and the seller accepts, it's usually a good 3 months until closing. That time includes a waiting period, you're right. It's a much longer process than in the US!

If you are an American getting a loan is quite difficult as banks are required to do more paperwork. I learned recently that 7 out of 10 French citizens do not qualify to get a home loan.

@@billieford9683 You're right, it is so difficult for Americans! You don't have that kind of cash sending around or investments you can sell off, you really have to go all in, sell everything, and buy the Chateau! That's what I plan on doing when I find the right one.
