I loved the USSR team! Elena Shushunova was one of my favorite gymnasts. She is one of the greatest gymnasts because she won the all around at: 1988 Olympics 1985 World Championship, with Oksana 1986 World Cup Championship 1985 European Championship

This was a golden era for gymnastics. Shushunova's floor is dynamite on every level. That second pass always takes my breath away.

I miss when gymnastics was artistic and a show of elegance and drama to capture your attention.

Laschenova was SO powerful, very badass finishing with a full-in double back. And boginskaya routine will always be the most artistic from WAG history

Those 3... Shushuhova, Laschenova and Boguinskaya were something else. But let's give some credit to Chevchenko too, what a dynamic performance!

AND...5 up 5 count for USSR on floor, they were missing Olga Starzheva who got injured on beam in the previous rotation. No room for error. Though they won by 1.350, they had tremendous pressure on them in the final rotation not being able to drop a socore.

I miss floor being a whole picture kind of thing (choreography and tumbling married into one) rather than just non stop passes. I more blame the COP for not allowing this kind of thing to not flourish. As someone said it should be "70's/80's choreography with today's difficult passes"

Прекрассные моменты! До сих пор помню эту дуэль взглядов Елены Шашуновой и Селиваш! Лена её выиграла с таким изяществом и спокойствием, как боксеры на ринге перед поединком, хотя эти бесконечные задержки музыки и т.д. могли выбить любого, но она с достоинством выдержала и выиграла Игры! Все нервы мы оставили, глядя на это чудо, но были счастливы, ликовали, кричали от счастья! Это незабываемо даже спустя 35 лет! Браво! В этом противостоянии все девчонки хороши, думаю они бы и сейчас дали всем фору и соревновались бы только со своими же, только уже российскими девчонками - такая сила, мощь, артистизм и отточенная грация завораживает!

This is 'Artistic Gymnastics'. FIG could do with reacquainting themselves with the true nature of the sport and steer away from the power tumbling/vaulting we are witnessing today, its boring as can be.

Elena Shushunova was the only one that really lived up to the expectations people have of a SOVIET FLOOR EXERCISE. Her routine was stellar and highlighted by impassioned, sensual dance combined with spectacular difficulty. Natalia Laschenova and Svetlana Boguinskaya were still "works in progress". Captivating but not fully realized potential. Yelena Shevchenko performed a fascinating Panther 💗 routine that she had in her arsenal for years, but in Seoul, she seemed indifferent and uninspired!
