No matter what UMC does, God’s Word is TRUTH… in 2008, I was a gay-identified man, in a committed, monogamous same-sex relationship, active in an affirming church, then found myself in an ICU where the medical team classified me clinically dead after a 22-minute flatline. Anyone who is affiliated with this "church" needs to abandon it completely. There's other real churches out there that won't ignore or water down God's word. Jesus directly warns against choosing family over God. God comes first, for reasons like this. The church's rules were trying to protect this woman from damnation and now the church has helped damn her by changing the rule. They say that the new teaching of the church is where "love" is at the center...For anyone that has read The Bible knows that God is described above all else as righteous. He is loving and caring but above all else he He is righteous; this is not righteous.

It was taken over by Lesbians and literature available to read while waiting was Socialist and Communist magazines. That was it. I doubt you could be a good pastor while openly defying God and celebrating it instead of repenting and trying harder to do as God says to do. Knowing that our food and water supply is tainted and full of things that are scientifically proven to change sexual preference, I really feel for people who are trying to abide by God's rules and coming up a bit short. We are all sinners, but I'd rather not have a "pastor" that openly cheats on his wife, celebrates it, and demands his church accept it, even though it goes against what God teaches. This is on par with that, so I guess the United Methodist Church is just another one to fall off and stop serving God by the end days. Sorry, guys. The Bible warned us this would happen.

What are so many of these commenters so afraid of? There are very few mentions of homosexuality in the New Testament, and they can be evaluated differently, given the many, many loose translations from Aramaic and Greek to English. And there's nothing in the Gospels, which I take to mean the topic was not something that concerned Jesus or the early Christian movement. Now, if you are referring to the Old Testament, you are basing your bias on the rules and regulations set by men who invariably told their followers that these were the words of God, in order to control them. The Old Testament is NOT the Christian Bible; the New Testament is. By the way, Reverend Andy Oliver is one of the most Christian people I know of.
