Leaders from the United Methodist Church are set to meet for the first time in a decade after a quarter of churches in the U.S. disaffiliated because of disagreements on ordination on LGBTQ rights and same-sex marriage.

Your report lacks some context. The UMC holds its General Conference every four years (2012, 2016, etc.). The last GC was in 2016, so it has not yet been a decade. The 2020 GC was thrown off by Covid, but the current 2024 GC happens by schedule, not because the church needed an emergency meeting, even if current agenda items are more urgent than usual.

The Bible doesn’t change for the people the people need to change for the Bible. EVERYONE is welcome at our church but as a church it’s our job to make sure you know the word of the Bible and don’t attempt to manipulate the meaning to fit your lifestyle… Read Corinthians and it’s a clear picture of what happens when you begin down this road. It’s simple. Love god and love your neighbor. I love everyone and pray that they can build a relationship with god and repent.. not continue down their path of sins. In the end god judges, not man.

Denomination is a mathmatical term. The lower number in a fraction is the denominator. Not a whole, broken. Christs prayer in John 17 is for HIS church to be one.

@@spaceboinasa39430 Giving churches the special privilege of not paying taxes is unconstitutional since the First Amendment clearly says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". Also, what basis is there for this tax exemption? Do you think it's commanded by God?

No one is required to be a member of a church. If you don't like your churches teachings, just go to another church. It would be a bit like doctor shopping, but whatever makes you feel right I guess.

It's actually pretty ridiculous. Denominations will cherry-pick the Bible pretty hard as they see fit, so it basically isn't really Christianity anymore. It's "ooh, I like what it says in this part, so I'll just use this to justify how I want to live and pretend the other parts don't exist" even though the Bible itself is pretty darn clear not to do that. It ends up being really divisive, which doesn't help anyone.

Can't serve both God and money. You'll love the one and hate the other... That is why there's even a question of what is actually in the Bible. If you didn't have a profit to consider, you'd actually speak it correctly and stand for God.

Yeah, but these guys hardly follow the Bible anyways. They serve the "itching ear" which means they only share the things people want to hear and kinda shuffle less appreciated verses under the rug even though they're true but people might not want to hear them. Once you start cherry-picking the Bible, anything goes. There's nothing stopping someone from just making it whatever they want. They make themselves God

@@skyyyrose These "churches" are businesses/marketplaces. Jesus said to stop making His Father's House a marketplace. These are NOT the church. The Church is in the believer who worships in the truth and Spirit (John 4). God says true believers MUST worship in the truth and Spirit, not in Jerusalem or a temple, which also follows not in a cathedral or any other church building. What regular place was given to early Christians? They were being slaughtered because it was illegal to be Christian. These are the prostitute churches that bore out of Babylon the Great (Rev 17), the harlot catholic church. They are not God's church. They continue in her prostitutions to the world.

Did Jesus say to Satan, that "man must live, not by bread alone, but what the church teaches" ? No. Rather, Jesus told Satan: "It is written (at Deut 8:3): Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every word that comes from Jehovah's mouth".(Matt 4:4) None of the churches of Christendom ' live on every word from Jehovah's mouth ', but rather set their own church doctrines and standards, such as acceptance of the LGBTQ community, as Jeremiah 5:23 stated of the nation of fleshly Israel: "But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; They have turned aside and gone their own way."

99% of homeless help comes from churches. Anyone who thinks we should tax churches are ignorant and have no idea what that actually means for the world we live in. 99% of churches can't even pay the bills they have. Let alone giving money to a government that increasing works against the mission of the churches.
