In this episode of the International law series, The animation video gives you an overview of the United Nations security council UNSC in international law in terms of: roles, functions, membership , veto and voting process as stated in the United Nations UN charter.
It examines the 15 states member of the UNSC, the permanent and non permanent states and the veto powers and the security council role that emerged after the world war II to maintain the international peace and security whether by peaceful means like the UN peacekeeper operations or thru the international sanctions like the military and economic embargo or even the authorization of the military use of force. In addition to the UNSC role in the appointment of the UN secretary general and the ICJ international court of justice judges.

+Rebecca Salim good question, its basically related to the nature of international law itself, its all about how powerful the country is , superpowers ( usa, russia etc) and great powers ( uk, france , germany ) are treated a different way when it comes to breach of international law, put it simple the international society is composed of unequal members and the law is created and enforced by powerful countries who usually hold a veto or an immunity of being punished

+LEX ANIMATA I totally agree. I have thought about the same as well. We do tend to give the "glamour" title to the entertainment industry, and not the army. I am currently studying for the law entrance exam in India. I want to ask you something. Do you think France should be removed from the five permanent member countries of UN? Since Japan and Germany contribute much more?

+Shrutika Barabde good question, the permanent 5 members of the UNSC are basically the winners of the WW2, so the permanent seat + the veto are both a kind of reward to the big 5, therefore even if France or UK are doing nothing they will still keep this privilege and will be members of the exclusive club , in other words this is similar to a wealthy family with incompetent heirs

Just for learning purposes, is the palestinian sovereignty recognised? I know that any act of the security council cannot be argued but it seems like they are serving just for a single state whish is usa. My question is, the state as the main subject of the international law, can they impose anything to this organisation body or council?

+Arshil Khan thanks for your kind feedback, the permanent seat in unsc is for sure a prestigious post giving the member some exceptional and exclusive benefits ( in particular the veto power ) , i believe what india , brazil, germany and other states are trying to do is to change the UNSC structure by expanding the number of permanent members , however there is not doubt that even if this happen - which will not - india or germany will not have a veto power, so its kind of "honorary" permanent seat dream without any sort of privileges

+Arshil Khan i believe both , in the end of the day its a prestigious post but without any real power but i dont think the UNSC will ever accept it because simply to change its structure you need the big permanent 5 states approval and they will never accept to change this "unequal" status quo otherwise they loose their special positions as the big 5

The United Nations security counsel is to act as the arresting officers. Israel is to never enter the international court of law or anyone affiliated with unless they are Palestianian and the international court of justice will appoint one and act as a shield to a governless people.

+Shlomo Ben Hungstein While the UN is not perfect, it has brokered more than 170 peace settlements and 16 current peacekeeping operations including one in Kosovo which actually saved the country. Of course there are many more examples out there. I'm sue you can find them.
