Students arrives at the United States Air Force Academy (also known as USAFA or the Air Force Academy) for in-processing and to begin basic training. They proceed to Jacks Valley for half their time in basic training. Physical endurance and mental toughness are tested while out in field conditions. The basic cadets will be in training over the summer and ready to be accepted in the cadet wing prior to the fall semester. Upon graduation from the Academy, a cadet will graduate with a bachelor of science degree and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
The USAFA admission process is extremely competitive, with nominations divided equally among Congressional districts. Recent incoming classes have had about 1,200 cadets; historically just under 1,000 of those will graduate. Tuition along with room and board are all paid for by the Air Force. Cadets receive a monthly stipend, but incur a commitment to serve a number of years of military service after graduation.
Video includes day 1, in-processing, intramural sports, military instruction and training.

you marines have never felt the pain of standing in blues, in 100+ degree weather, perfectly still, for hours on end. maybe youve tolerated and hour or so, but not for more than that. your also forgetting what the airforce does. it stresses intelligence, character, precision, excellence, etc. it does not stress brute force and a determination to die. The USAF flies planes, manages paperwork, does missions WITH marines and army. ya couldnt get halfway across the world if a Airman hadnt gotten up at 3:00, sipped a coffee, put on a flight suit, went to a briefing, finsihed up some work, headed to the flight line, prepped the plane (which is exausting), check the flight plan, file it , double check it,take invetory, wait while dozens of marines and soldiers or whatever shuffle on board, check that all personal are ready and present, close the cargo door, brief the soldiers, set up equipment, start the plane and all of its systems, perform countless checklists and procedures, contact atc, activate flight plane, wait....wait....wait...cleared for taxi to rwy 06 via bravo, bravo2, cross rwy 24 onto sierra5, turn left onto sierra and taxi full length, hold position number 3 behind a c-17 and a AWACS, hold short, readback flight plan, line up and wait, apply ample power and such, check instruments, "160...v1...rotate...v2...positive rate gear up, four red...128.86 Gold55 with you, IFR to waypoint WASC, holding pattern for blah blah blah.... needless to say, its a lot to remember and do. maybe piece by piece its easy, but you have to learn that stuff. In the marines and army, they stress skill and perseverence and physical condition. in the airfroce, a lot of the work isnt physically or mentally challenging, but you you have a lot of complicated stuff and for that, you need a lot of knowledge. where do you get knowledge? oh! i know! from a university or academy! well waddya know? The AirForce trains officers at an "academy".... its not boot camp, its not basic training, its an academy. you sirs have just had to be taught the difference between an academy and boot camp. and you wonder why the airforce stresses eduction so much...

People talk shit on the air force yet the other branches rely on them to provide air support and to get them out of situations they can’t get out of themselves. The air force may be the easiest going during their boot camps but they are one of the most important branches because of the support they provide.

This is not enlisted training. I think people are misunderstanding this for the Air Force's enlisted basic training, which is still now pretty soft, in light of some few events. Becoming a student/cadet/whatever in the Air Force Academy is actually a very competitive and tough task. It is among one of the most prestigious schools in America, and is the Alma Mater of many of the pilots in the US Air Force. It is by no means an easy school.

Difficulty portion here is during high school and even earlier preparing to get into the academy. Very difficult. Lots of long all nighters preparing academically and in leadership positions, summers spent doing the same, no free time for anything, 5-6 hour night sleeps between freshman and senior year school nights the norm. Once you're in though, you're in, unless you're a total imbecile who somehow cheated through the system or have unanticipated major life changes (i.e. become schizo or major depression the top reasons).

While I agree this can set them up for future success, I've worked with enlisted ranks that have attained higher success then some officers. For someone that is an E-1-E-4, I would much rather learn from an E-5 - E-7. Officers are meant to lead via orders. The true leaders in any military are your E-6-E-7's or 8's.

USAFA is a different culture than the Army or Marine Corps. These cadets are the very best of American youth. I'm not gonna lie, stuff certainly gets softer over the years, but that's due to what the multiple generals that run this institution decide is best to develop the greatest leaders of character. But what you see on the camera ain't shit. There are a lotta things that go on that they don't want the public, especially parents, to know about. It's called recruitment. Gotta understand that these cadets could easily be going to another school. Plus, bear in mind that Air Force officers require leadership training, precision, and excellent thinking skills, not brute force.

After seeing a lot in the comments, I can say this: while theres multiple reasons why people say the Army and Marines are tougher than the air force, it's in perspective. Marines and Army specialize more ground and combat forces, but in reality who would have the brain, guts (and stomach) to fly a plane that goes faster than the speed of sound and still concentrate on maneuvering it? Or who would have the know-how in that knowledg of technology? Adding ul all the forces creates a balance of brain and brain, and without both our military would sucm, but by using both they get the best of both worlds and are more successful. Idk, just a thought

What you see in the video is the easiest thing the basic cadets have to do. The retention and regurgitation of information, whether from a handbook of cadet knowledge, public media, or complex orders is much more difficult, creating significantly more stress for the cadets than the physical routines. This is an element that the enlisted army, marines and navy basic training don't emphasize. However, West Point and Annapolis cadets endure nearly identical training elements to AFA. Graduates of all our military academies must be able to accurately process quickly-evolving battle information, saving lives and ensuring mission success.

You have to make sure your not dropping one of the balls or you get kicked out. So yea u may be the most pathetic person but your grades are not that good so your out. Or your the smartest person alive but cant shine your boots or march correctly then your out. Maybe everyone should go there before judging how "easy" it is.

I think some of you are a little confused on the title, " basic cadet training". This in more than basic training, this is a college academy. This is not the normal, walk into the recruiters and enlist, young men and women. These people have been selected out of a large pool of people. The acceptance rate is only about 52 percent for the USAFA. That's almost the same as Ivey league schools.

They would be assigned to my floor for about 4-5 days for recuperation. Upper class members thought they could run their room, until I came in an gave them a good chewing. Then, upon their departure, I told them they might meet me in a vaccination line once stationed. I loved giving shots to the officers.

All Military training has one purpose: to prepare people for their most essential duty --whether they realize it or not. On my first night in Navy boot camp, 50+ years ago, after we'd been assigned a bunk and a service number, I fell into exhausted sleep. Then, in the dead of night, we were suddenly awakened by flashing lights, yelling, all sorts of confusion. Our job was to "fall in line" at attention and recite our name along with our newly acquired service number. The intensity of the experience burned that number into our minds. Years later, it struck me that in less than 24 hours, we learned the most essential thing we must do in a time of crisis. When ever a ship is threatened, the Captain needs to know who was present and who is missing so he can form a plan to save his ship. Years later, as a Tech Rep aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, I saw a puff of smoke belch from the port side of the ship and realized it was an emergency diesel generator starting up. That indicated something serious. The Kitty Hawk had a fire that caused the loss an entire engine room. As damage control procedures were initiated, and everyone else assembled on the flight deck. That's so the Captain would immediately know who was missing, and who wasn't. It was an amazing experience to learn how the professional discipline contained the raging fire and controlled the emotions while we were hundreds of miles from land. Eventually, an Ocean Tug brought us to our destination. Totally professional. A few lives were lost, but a need for a special exit at the bottom of the engine room was recognized as well as for the one at the top. All carriers were retrofitted so no lives would be lost if it ever happened again. My favorite quote [Will Rogers] -- "Ain't no sense making mistakes if ya don't learn from 'em." Over the years, I met other military people (Army) and asked about what they experienced in their first 24 hours. One was a lawyer/judge, another a Chaplain, and another was a dentist. Their experiences were different, but the experience of each one expressed the most essential attribute of their responsibility.
