So thankful that we’re having these conversations. Self harm, depression, anxiety, pornography, and suicide are real and exist in the church. You're not alone and there is hope!

It’s so refreshing to see the church be vocal about mental health issues. It’s become too commonplace for this to be swept under the rug. Thank you for sharing your story, Reagan

Im thankful your family Reagan. I was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost and God broke me of some of the religiosity including my ties with the Roman Catholic Church and it was because I was involved with that dichotomy that I dealt with scrupulosity which hospitalized me because at the time I was afraid of going to hell and being left behind and the UPCI has been a family for me and they've loved me with God's love even in my darkest moments. I also am on the autistic spectrum and was misunderstood for a long time and I just know I know God has me and loves me and has a purpose for me. Thank you Jesus for your testimony! Its encouraged me sis.

Blake.... Please go to a church that teaches the Bible verse by verse. This is integral in knowing that salvation is through Christ alone, through faith alone, by grace alone. This is what brings true hope and freedom because YOU have nothing to do with saving yourself. You can never BE good enough or holy enough. Please read Romans. It's not a letter to only Christians, it's reaching out to unsaved people as well.... Much like our churches today. Prayers and more prayers for you. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I came back to say that I have sometimes experienced fear. The Lord showed me once that fear can cause depression too. We can over come fear by prayer and fasting. Also pray it for all the saints in these last days. The Lord does not want us to live in fear no matter what. Also wanted to commend Reagan for giving her testimony. I believe many people will be helped by it. Bless you, Reagan.

Thank you, Regan. I feel like being raised in the church, people don't think you go through this stuff. You let the devil lie to you saying your raised in church people have it worst off in the world, don't you have everything? But it's a lie don't think that you can't be sad and don't think you're alone. God loves you. One thing I learn about a Pentecostal church is that they have there arms open to the hurt, the hungry, the anxious, the suicidal, and the depressed. Dont be scared to ask your youth leader or an elder in the church to help you. But remember your not alone.

Hi Reagan, When I was a young mom, I sank into the deepest depression of my life. A precious lady in my church, Sis. Mary, encouraged me to start encouraging others even when I didn't feel like it. During this time, God gave me the gift of encouragement. I have found that when I struggle, that if I encourage someone, then I feel encouraged. The gift of encouragement is a gift that gives both ways. I'm so grateful that God delivered you and me and that you are able to share your testimony.

Actual discipleship and character building for our children in our churched families is so vital. Mere church attendance is utterly insufficient to do anything to stop any sin or any other negative situation such as poor physical or mental health. Thank you, Reagan, for sharing honestly what you went through.

Reagan, I am sorry you suffered from depression and darkness. It is appreciated that you shared your family background and pedigree. There is a perception that preacher children/PKs are exempt from mental health issues or depression or even addictions. Actually they are most susceptible because they are ignored as a person, but often celebrated as a icon of the church. Your story and ongoing testimony (as I can hear the wounds in your voice and in your expression) will encourage many others in the Church to seek help. Richard Smallwood penned and produced a song: Balm in Gilead. It speaks to the prophetic Word of God about healing for the soul. The Holy Ghost is real and it is saving and keeping power. But we also recognize it does not exempt us from the natural order of life. Reagan, you are so beautiful. Keep the Lord first in all you do and serve Him only. With love and admiration💜. Lord Bless You.

I am very happy you made it through, reached out and got the help you needed. I lost my brother to suicide 3 years ago and it's been a really hard journey being left behind without him. All that being said, have you ever considered that the religious organization you're in may have a part in it? I was in the UPCI for 17 years and it made me feel like I was never good enough . There was always pressure to be and look and believe a certain way and if I didn't I wouldn't be saved. In fact, in this organization you have no security in salvation. It’s all about works. So as long as you’re doing what they say you’re good, try not doing what they say and see what happens. You are worth MORE to Jesus than any religious organization. So many prayers are sent up for you today sweet girl. You are never alone in Christ. Please remember that; and although I realize they mean well and I'm sure there are many kind people in it, It’s not a church that saves you ;it’s Jesus who saves you through the blood of the cross and through faith alone. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Love and blessings to you always, hon. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

I'm sorry you had that experience in a UPC. Read Phil. 2:12, Romans 6:2, and Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 Peter 2:9, John 15:19. The basis of UPC is Acts 2:38. I am UPC, and I love it! It is difficult to understand as a teenager, but I am proud and blessed to be in this faith. I am proud to be different and stand out for Jesus! God bless you, whatever faith you may be.

@@rebekahhill6537 Thank you for your kind words. I was in the UPC for 17 years and have a good understanding of the salvation doctrine that is taught. And yes, there are MANY lovely people there, such as yourself, and I have no ill will toward them. I believe the organization as a whole teaches a false gospel, and that's why my heart is troubled. We are warned that if we add anything to the gospel, which is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, not Acts 2:38, then Jesus died in vain. I implore you to read the entire book of Romans and Galatians in full. Don't jump around and take verses out of context; that's what gets you mixed up. I pray one day you receive your identity in Christ and not what you do or don't do or what you wear or don't wear, because you are more than those temporary things and Jesus died to free all from legalism of any sort. Paul was a great proponent of this, as was Jesus, when he called the Pharisees vipers. Pleased believer me when I say I'm not against the people, I'm FOR freedom in Christ. Not to sin, of course, God forbid; but manipulating others to live in fear and teaching others they can lose their salvation atany time isn't right. Jesus' blood is all sufficient and we can add nothing to what He did. It would be considered filthy rags, right? You're in my prayers dear girl. 🙏🏻 P.S. Please consider reading the texts your shared within the entire chapters' they are written in. Itt will give you a full picture of where our "set apartness and holiness," truly comes from.

All these voices that come against us are specific spirits meant to destroy us. There is a cruel abusing spirit. He tells us we are no good and deserve pain. There is the spirit of suicide that keeps telling us it's no use; just give up. They can come against the child of God in such a strong way. It sometimes gets hard just to keep battling them at times. It really helps to have at least one person we can talk to who can pray for us in these times. I also love Jeremiah 33:3: Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Meaning he can lift us up above our situation and give us a different view of the problem that we cannot see from where we are right now.) Also the medical profession will tell you that mental disease comes before physical but I really, really think it is the other way around. When our health is suffering because of a chronic disease, it affects our mood and our thinking in a big way. If someone reading this has chronic disease, where you just feel sick all the time, there are physical causes for that--some of them have not been discovered yet for the same reason I mentioned, medicine defaults to 'easy-peasy,' i.e. label something as a mental disease and throw some pills at it and it will go away but it doesn't because they are not addressing the entire cause. Ask God to show you what is making you ill. Also don't just do everything the world tells you to do to get better. Sometimes they are wrong; lots of times they are wrong and their advice can sometimes be more damaging. That's why it's better to ask the Lord to show you the way forward and keep crying out to Him.

What stinks is that my Apostolic Pentecostal Pastor thinks he knows my mental state and just thinks everything is okay when I wasn't. Lack of support of mental health. So churches need to embrace mental health and not think it's a devil. Like having depression is a sin or you have a devil. It doesn't help the mental health.

We also need to examine what multiple daily hours of screen time (blue light, social media, endless mindless entertainment and adds etc.) do to harm physical and mental health and take action to warn all the people of our society with whom we interact (raised in church or not) of the dangers inherent in a life completely awash in audiovisual technology.

Did anybody hear her say she was bullied! Why don't the Sunday school teachers teach our children not to bully. Our children get that at school, they don't need to face that at church. Everytime new kids come to church I cringe inside because I wonder if they will suffer cruelty. Let us not only teach the our children the doctrine, but how to treat others as in love thy neighbor as yourself.
