Our deputy Tatiana Zhdanok, in her speech at the European Parliament session in Strasbourg, raised the issue of the recent decisions of the neighbouring European Court of Human Rights with regard to Russian schools in Latvia.
The court ruling said that the measures taken by the Latvian government were "proportionate and necessary, in particular to ensure unity in the education system".
Tatiana Zhdanok reminded that the EU slogan is not just unity, but "unity in diversity". By removing the word "diversity", we justify the policy of forced assimilation and the transition to total uniformity.
The virus of Russophobia, which seems to have infected many judges of the European Court of Human Rights, is no less dangerous than the viruses of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, and the next target of these viruses will be the entire system of international law," Zhdanok said. She justified this assessment by saying that the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights are a precedent and they will be used in the future to restrict the rights of all minorities.
