♿ Universal access walk from Bonaventure metro station to the REM platform at Central Station 🛗

Some of you have asked me to do a walk from Bonaventure metro station to the platform of the REM at Central Station / Gare Centrale, using the route that someone using universal access would need to take.
Universal access to me means someone that has a stroller, uses a wheelchair, is travelling with a bicycle, etc. Universal access in my opinion means having to use the elevators and universal access doors on your trip.
In this walk, we start at the platform of Bonaventure metro station on the Orange Line of the Montreal Metro System 🟠
We then take the elevator from the platform up to the mezzanine or ticket booth level. From there, we make our way to the elevator that leads to Terminus Centre-Ville (City Center bus Terminal) and then take another elevator that leads to street level.
From the street level, we make our way to the parking lot of Central Station through a narrow walkway. We then finally enter the doors to the REM Station and take the elevator down to the platform level.
Note: there are probably other ways a universal access trip could be taken, but this is the one that came to mind first.
Analysis: I believe this trip having to be used by someone needing universal access is really not the best at all. The main point being is that you ultimately have to go outside after leaving Bonaventure metro station to get to the REM station.
A much more logical scenario - as I mentioned in the video - would be to add elevators at the end of the hallway leading to Place Bonaventure as there already is an exit from the REM station there. The only thing that would be needed are a couple of elevators to make it easily accessible.
I'm also surprised that the main doors leading to the inside of Central Station from outside do not have universal access buttons to open the doors. The small, narrow walkway through the garage is almost impossible to navigate.

totaly agreed about the elevator at bonaventure corridor. i asked guard why there no entrace there and a got no answer about oh well maby 1 day they will ad it.

Very thorough evaluation of access points. I agree with you 100% that this project was not thought out fully. It seems just designed for able bodied people. It could have been done simply as you mentioned. Adding an elevator at the end of the Bonaventure tunnel. No wonder we still need to use our cars to get around. Having mobility issues myself, this is too much walking. Thank you Pat for bringing this lack of access for the minority group. I thought the REM would make it easier to take public transit. I guess I was wrong.

8:12 There's actually a better route you can take by walking further down Rue de la Gauchetière - there's another driveway with a dedicated and more comfortable pedestrian sidewalk that leads to the same doors at 9:30. In fact that driveway is where Gare Centrale is officially addressed (795 Rue de la Gauchetière).

I have a feeling that most commuters requiring universal accessibility will use the McGill REM and the Green Line when it opens up in the coming year. The issues with accessibility from Bonaventure are due to that there are several authorities and property owners that cause issues with putting in elevators. There are also legacy issues because of the twisty and narrow route from Bonaventure to Gare Centrale. The rest of the system is going to be far better because it`s all new build without having to deal with the sometimes wonky retro fitting that the Montreal Metro has to deal with.

Patrick I think the city should hire you to work out how to make the public transit universal accessibity much better it's obvious they don't do a good job... and you'd probably do it at less than a fraction of the cost.

haha good one :D It is simple to do but I guess there are costs, etc involved.
