I've watched a lot of "how to" videos on splicing synthetic winch ropes. This one stands out like the farmer in the field, (He's outstanding). Good show, well done, I think I have a better understanding of the whole process now.

I love doing my own rope work. I started using a plasma lock on mine for that same reason.

I was struggling to stop double-braided rope sliding when attaching to the drum. The outer braid was too slippery for a constrictor knot to work and line was too ridged to get a plasma lock to start without slipping. I ended up using one of Bubba Ropes ‘The Grabber’ plasma locks. It uses some VHB tape to secure the lock to the drum enough so you can get the lock to properly constrict. Next time, I will remove my bumper so I have full access to the drum, and just use some VHB tape on the inside of a plasma lock. I do like the double-braided winch line for pulling, but it can’t be repaired and it is not possible to add custom splices. I will keep a conventional single-braid rope as an emergency spare, pre-spliced with a Brummell splice at each end so I can also use it as a static extension.

You said to bury 24" but you didn't add in the the loop or the two locks. Shouldn't you have added another 8" to 10"?

It may not have been clear in the video but I first measure up from the end to 24" and make a mark. Then add enough for your loop and an extra inch or two for the brummel and make a second mark. The second mark is where you start making your splice. Once your done with the locking Brummel, you should still have 24" remaining for the bury.
