Carlito could have made that train if he had just accepted Benny's champagne and kept it moving. Sometimes pride can get you killed faster than a bullet will.

It had nothing to do with pride he didn’t respect him even street dudes have principals and integrity Benny didn’t have any of that carlito was a old school guy who values respect and integrity benny was new school that didn’t value any of that so that right there was the problem not pride because if it was pride he would’ve killed him in that alley

You can tell by the look on Benny Blanco's face when Carlito says "if I ever see you here again, you die" that he thinks Carlito has gone soft, even Benny knows that he is absolutely supposed to die for his disrespect, Benny even said "if I ever see you again, I'm gonna fucking kill you" and Carlito still let him walk away, which sealed Carlito's fate.

@MrB0gart who works the streets at night? women...pimps are always hanging around and the johns chasing p*ssy but it's women's world...woman is referred to for ships too...also the earth mother...charles manson I think once referred to the penitentiary saying 'she's the icebox'...fact is p*ssy is the boss of this world because most men will do anything to get into it...therefore his correlation between the street being a woman watching all the time underpins his understanding of woman being the real boss...also it must be understood that a sexy woman is often the cause of a man being beaten or robbed or killed and arrested and jailed...it's heavy karma...we all got here thru them and they are often the cause of a man's death...this scene is an example...benny could not just let stephie go...he had to push it but she jumped onto another guy like most women do if they look good and are getting male attention whenever they walk (this is why most attractive women are wh*res regardless of their work or how much money they have or how rich or good looking their boyfriend or husband is)...this scene is the most unbelievable of the whole movie...it was absolutely the right thing for benny to be killed and carlito fcked up and then he loses his life because of it at the end of movie before he can escape with his dream woman...if we look deeper we see carlito eventually dies because of a wh*re (stephie) and more directly dies because of not killing benny (gangster) and he is with a good woman and heading to paradise which is out of character for him...reminds me of clint eastwood's dirty harry line "a man has got to know his limitations" meaning who to talk to and who not to...who to get close to and who not to get close to...who to trust and who not to trust...where to hang out and where not to hang out...men who do not know their limitations get into arguements or fights and accidents and wind up in hospital or murdered...these are serious words to live by...I am alive due to buddhism and knowing my limitations

Love the lighting / ambience / color grading in this whole movie, it just has a nice aesthetically pleasing look. I feel like they tried to replicate the color grading with the TV show POWER especially the night club scenes.

Both the negative and positive in Carlito resulted in his death. Pride and mercy. The very essence of who he was caused his death, and he died happy, having became a better person and more importantly, always true to himself. Life or death he was always genuine
@hughtube5154

Kinda. What killed him more was his refusal to ditch his code of ethics and realise that kind of brotherhood was no more and it was now dog eat dog. He trusted his old friends even though they all betrayed him - wore a wire to get out of prison / sold him out to the DA / went over to Benny Blanco's employment. Even though he said the words, "Friendship gonna kill you faster than a bullet," he never doubted his friends' intentions. And it cost him.

Incredible performance by Pacino, and everyone in this scene. Brilliant foreshadowing, too, though just damn sad--this is when you know Pacino is gonna' get killed by Blanco at the end. On the street, you simply cannot disrespect anyone the way that Leguizamo is disrespected here, threaten to kill him and then not kill him. Leguizamo played Blanco right to the core, and watching this film the first time, I knew Pacino's not gonna make it.

My favorite gangster movie of all time. Overlooked and a flop at the cinemas, however I liked it more than Scarface even though it reminded me of that movie and used a couple of cast members from it. The dialogue from that movie is lightning. John Leguizamo is such a good actor like him or not you can't say he doesn't have a lot of talent and he certainly nailed the part for Benny Blanco from the Bronx.

If you look closely at the SYMBOLISM and ESOTERIC meaning when Carlito is talking to Benny in the red light you will notice Carlitos face is half red and Bennys face is all red. I love the ending of the movie for a few reasons, but one of those is how it’s almost unintentionally comedic. Carlito is about to board the train and leave with the love of his life- only for Benny Blanco from the Bronx to come out of nowhere from vanishing earlier on in the movie, announces his presence in the most supervillain way possible, and shoots him. It’s like the ending to a really dark and hardcore sitcom- ‘Who Else but Benny?’ On a serious note though, love this movie. This and Glengarry Glen Ross are two Al Pacino movies that deserve more recognition.

I love how the next shot after Carlito snaps his finger shows Benny with an all red face and Carlito half red and half white. That basically proved Benny was right saying he's over and in the history books. Carlito is only half of what he used to be gangster wise and Benny is full fledged gangster. The white light signified the new Carilto on his way out to a potentially better situation, but half red because of what he is still capable of, while the fully red faced Benny is basically a younger him...deep in it and dangerous enough to take him out of the equation

@eddiehaze3165
@eddiehaze3165 Жыл бұрын
@@rokyericksonroks I think that further validates the statement I made about Benny being a younger Carlito. He's seeking Carlito's validation from jealousy in a way by sending the bottle to the table and then he sends it back making him turn up that need for it. The movie emphasizes how Carlito lived a life where he was highly respected and feared before jail. But now he's running from that lifestyle while constantly running into people that indirectly pull him back towards it. Benny knows this instinctively and knows who Carlito was in the past. In a way you can tell he admires him until he sniffs out that ''weakness'' in Carlito (The red and white face) and is let down. Knowing hes got him beat he then vows to kill him....(which he does obviously.) I think Benny was the movie's twist for Carlito's end. A message saying you can't run from or forget what you create in life regardless of the lifestyle...

That was an excellent film. I loved it. The man who played the nightclub owner was Jorge' Porcel, a popular entertainer from Argentina. One day several years ago i recognized him sitting in a wheelchair listening to a band playing music in the outdoor section of a popular shopping mall here in South Florida. There were tons of Latino people passing by and nobody recognized him but me. I asked him how he was , and he said he recently had an operation. A few years later i felt bad because i read that he passed away. Al was so great in this movie. So was a young John Leguizamo & Sean Penn. The most underrated mob movie. This film was so well cast, and all of the actors brought their A game. Ingrid Rogers looks fine as hell too.

Acting tour de force from everybody in this outstanding and much underrated movie. Pacino is fabulous. Why is this role of his so seldom mentioned among his finest achievements? You tell me. I've no idea. It's not pride or ego that kills Carlito. It's mercy. He's changed too much, for the best in general perhaps, but not inside of the underworld (and many "upperworlds", but that's another story).

He started to think!! He was Mr. Powerful again..totally disrespected Blanco. Could have gave him ten . Minutes...disrespected him..in front of his crew..should have taken him out in the alley..his fatal mistake..

You could argue that he shouldn't have been merciful to Benny Blanco. But, we know from later in the film that Kleinfeld is willing to sell Carlito out to the DA on a drug deal he ASSUMED (but couldn't prove) Carlito did to invest in the club; Kleinfeld would have had a MUCH stronger case against Carlito if Benny had been murdered, considering all the witnesses. What actually killed Carlito was his trust in his friends - he was warned Pachenga had gone over to Benny Blanco's side, he was warned by Gail that Kleinfeld was a piece of ____ who would get him into trouble. Carlito refused to abandon his friends - one implicated him in a Mafia hit that almost killed him, the other gave away his boarding train details to Benny, who did kill him. "Friendship gonna kill you faster than a bullet."

Benny was going to be a problem no matter what choice Carlito made. Moral of the story is, either you're in 100% or out 100% no in between...

The end scene sticks with me to this day. You can do everything “right”, have a back up plan, but always be nice because you never know when a lowly Benny Blanco from the Bronx might show up to take it all away.

Benny Blanco wasn't "lowly". He was a serious guy and it was apparent. You can't disrespect someone like that and not expect repercussions.

Carlito never elevated Pachanga or treated him with more money or respect that he deserved for his loyalty who then turned on him for empty promises of power and enrichment which allowed the hit to be successful. And of course he was told "No, you stay here too" by Blanco who then shot him too, tragic ending!

Being nice is one of the reasons he got killed. Too nice to his lawyer, too nice to Benny. Once the lawyer pulled the gun on Benny. Benny and the lawyer had to go. When the lawyer stole from the mob and got Carlito's in the mix the lawyer should have been served to the mob on a platter. Carlito's should have never been on the boat. Carlito's put himself in a position to be a victim. All that nice guy stuff made Pachanga lose respect for him. If Carlito's would have taken care of business his guys would have known not to play with him. He could have retired leave his guy set up to fill his spot. Pachanga's ambition got him killed. No way you humiliate and young up and coming by putting hands on him in public and walk away breathing from that.
