Yeah, 1955 is honestly such a pivotal moment in Back to the Future history. Since Marty went there by accident, so many different events have occured because of the events of the 1st movie.

And I had just realized that 1985's Doc knew of Marty's first _and_ second trips to 1955 and his trips to 2015 and 1885 that night at the mall before the Libyans "killed" him!

Aaand, that DeLorean in the cave was already in that cave when Marty arrived in 1885 with his DeLorean. They could have used the fuel that was presumable left in the cave DeLorean to drive Marty's DeLorean home :P Or, assuming there was no fuel in the cave DeLorean left, at least salvage the fuel injection from it after they'd blown out the one in Marty's DeLorean. Doc in 1955 would have easily been able to replace it once he and Marty recovered the cave DeLorean.

And you can see the clock 🕰 he was hanging in the bathroom on the wall,from where he slipped and hit his head.

Here's another conundrum, Who named it Einstein? It was named like that because Marty told the Doc the name of the dog, which he only knew because that's the name the Doc gave it, who named it to not alter time continuum after Marty told him the name.

I don’t think he doesn’t believe that Marty isn’t a time traveler anymore whatwith all the evidence that Marty showed him (video of himself as older, the JVC video camera, the DeLorean, the flux capacitor, knowledge of the lightning strike, etc), I think he just called him that because he was annoyed with him for coming back after he had expended so much effort to get him home.

You're right, Grif. Just as in Part 1, Marty had to tell the "flux capacitor" story to prove he knows Doc from 1985, in Part 3, he has to show Doc the letter, in his own handwriting, to prove the 1885 story. In both cases, Marty has to prove his case to make Doc stop calling him "Future Boy".

Christopher Lloyd is an amazing actor; I got to meet him in person a couple years ago. Hard to believe he plays a mad scientist, a cabby, a judge, and Uncle Fester and plays all of them so AMAZINGLY well

This is an underrated point and a strong actor like Lloyd would pick up immediately on the things you mentioned. There is a lot going through the heads of the two different Docs across time and each one feels very distinct - the 1985 Doc is very different from 1955 Doc.

The script is not perfect, although it contains a lot of bugs caused by time travel plot. But still good :D

Christopher Lloyd will forever be one of my favorite actors.. up there with Marlon Brando for sure..

It could have fallen out of his pocket when he fell down those two times (after sliding down the wire, and when he was nearly electrocuted.) Aside from that, it had a good chance of not getting lost.

The Doc Brown in 1955 is closer in age to Christopher Llyod in 1989 than the Doc Brown in 1985.

Also, in the 50s, Japanese electronics were already common in the US, and they were known for being cheap and poorly made.

In 1989-1990 Japan was threatening to tank the entire American economy by importing so much electronics. That’s how dominant they were at innovating electronics and making stuff. See Michael Crichton novel Rising Sun. Of course by mid 90’s USA had gotten a grip on the tech caught up and China began making all our stuff dirt cheap.

Japanese Culture, food and corporations were big in the post war until the 90s... Now it's the opposite or mixed now... Components stuff etc... and manufacturing is coming back to the west close to mid 2020s... I think..

In the German version it's translated as _„Marty, geh' bitte von meinem Grab runter!“_ … Thus, Doc literally is saying: _“Marty, please get off my grave!”_ This combined with Christopher Lloyd's facial expression, it's even more hilarious and a highly ironic line and circular pun than the original line! Since whilst the English version is 'nothing special' (anyone could have said that), in German you would probably expect that line from a ghost at best, if anything. ♥

We then go to late night 1985b, and we'll be generous and say they got everything done there in another 8 or 9 hours, since we never see the sun in that reality. The next six hours are the end of BTTF2, which makes it ten days. Two or three more to make it back to 1885 and then a week there, and yeah, just under three weeks.

I was too young to see that film on theaters at the time. But I think that it could have been mind blowing. Omg seeing Delorean coming from a truck in first film. And to think of it that was the reason the clock went busted. The lightning. Or perhaps the weather experiment was doing something too. Doc put wire or cable to clock's pointers.

His faces and mannerisms are truly a show apart! Part of what made the character so timeless!

Besides that, I (and probably many others) couldn't stop laughing at his expression when the toy car, on fire, drove into a bunch of paint cans in the 1st movie. Mind, I first saw it when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I kept having the laserdisc rewound, so I could see it over and over. (Laserdisc is an older home movie format. Introduced in the late 70s, it was higher quality than VHS and Betamax. Not as high definition as DVD or Blu Ray, but it's Analog, whereas DVDs and Blu Ray are Digital. The picture quality feels noticeably gentler on your eyes, somehow. Also, you can go through a movie frame-by-frame with Laserdiscs. DVDs & Blu Rays don't have that, IIRC.)

Grown on me too. I was disappointed at first as I loved the future, but after watching III so many times, its excellent.

i dont feel like people act that way. is a great movie, is good that is not set in 1955 and gives some more time to doc. the west setting is also very interesting and the movie itself is full of details of the old hill valley that you can catch that reference 1955 and 1985 hill valley. plus the plot itself is solid. i cant say which of the 3 is my favourite since i like the three equally.

Dude, I went and saw 3 in theaters in 1990 and had not seen part 2. Don't ask why. I was tripping. But yes that explanation helped tremendously. It was like oh well I missed 2 but this movie is about to be good. I so enjoyed it. Not until the internet did I find out 3 wasn't as good as 2 or 1. To me it's all one big movie. I would go over my mom's friend's house for holidays. They'd put me in a room with Nintendo or BTTF. I didn't even care about the Nintendo. Instead I'd watch BTTF Trilogy. I was weird like that, I guess.

But only in America. Here in the UK, we had a television children's show called "For the Children" that started in 1937 (was broadcasted live by the BBC) and that's 10 years BEFORE Howdy Doody. So its us brits who pioneered children's television from that aspect because we did it first.

His father is now a successful author, rather than a beaten down office drone, his mother is no longer semi-alcoholic, his elder brother is a sucessful business executive rather than a fast food worker, and dedicated enough to go in on a Saturday, and his sister is clearly better off too, though we don't get specifics beyond her suddenly having multiple boyfriends.. It also begs the question, where is the Marty of this new timeline? The version of Marty who lived with this new family in the 'better' timeline, and probably was doing better in school with a more supportive family behind him and higher expectations based on the rest of his family. He still befriended Doc Brown and was with him at Lone Pine Mall, and took off in the Delorean with the terrorists after him, as original timeline Marty watched. That Marty vanished into time, but is not the one that came back. Now old timeline Marty will have to work to fill in the place left by his new timeline counterpart, and deal with the fact that the people he knew are gone.

He contradicts himself quite alot in the third one. It's almost as if they switch roles and Marty was the more responsible one...

I've heard that for 1955, Doc's comment was accurate. Japan's exported item quality _was_ junky, it _was_ known as junk. I'm not the most knowledgeable about this, though.

However, in addition to that, the joke plays on the fact that approximately only 10 years previously, the US dropped the only atomic bombs used in warfare on two Japanese cities. Japan was not thought of positively by the US for a while due to the fighting that had just occurred between the two nations. Also, in 1953, the US was fighting the Korean War. I know Japan and Korea are two different countries, but I'm just saying that average American sentiment to East Asia was not very good at this time.

Goods from Japan in the 1950's were mostly junk, like goods from China now. Japanese goods didn't get good until the 70's, and by the 80's their cars and electronics were the envy of the rest of the world (Sony electronics, Toyota and Honda cars).

This is likely why he figured “what the hell”. With the extreme info dump he was given after the events of BttF 1, he likely figured reading the letter wouldn’t endanger anything anymore.

I love the gun Doc builds. There isn't another gun like that back then. It's hilarious that Doc goes back and doesn't fit in. He's actually altering history, worst than Marty did with his parents' first meeting. When Doc gets struck by lightning in 1955, Clayton Ravine immediately fades and becomes Shonash Revine. When Marty looks like he died in the ravine as the train falls in, Shonash is renamed in Clint Eastwood's honor.

Which is funny given that doc would’ve certainly met people who actually lived on the old west. Doc was probably born in the late 1910’s to early 1920’s given he’s already a grown adult (maybe early to mid 30’s) in 1955 and an old man (around mid 60’s) in 1985 When he was a kid on the late 20’s and 30’s there would still be a lot of people around in Hill Valley that were around in the old west days, hell, there’s a chance some of Hill Valley’s 1885 inhabitants would still be alive during Doc’s childhood.

When I saw this scene the first time, I thought this was the first movie. I was 4 years old and didn't payed much attention to the story, I paid more attention to the DeLorean. I thought that was how they found the Time Machine in general.

I know that in the aviation industry, there is a way to preserve internal engine parts for a long time and I would imagine you could do something similar with a cars engine The hoses and flexible parts may have been harder to save but I’m sure Doc was able to procure or fabricate things like that. Excellent quality film stock really holds up when stored/archived in the right conditions and looks even better when it's cleaned up and restored. This 4k intro REALLY pops and looks absolutely amazing.

well i mean.. when the delorean is struck by lightning and sent to 1885, it still had tires. So dock very well could have pushed it or hitched a horse on it to tow it into the mine in neutral. Then putting it on blocks is just a simple matter or levering it. The tires would have rightly deteriorated beyond use over 70 years, but then getting it out of the mine is just a simple matter of pulling it out with the winch. Which honestly wouldn't have even been necessary had they mounted new tires while it was on blocks.

I began with part 2 and 3. Our family didn't have the part 1 VHS. I didn't see Part 1 until years later on DVD at Blockbuster.

I knew a guy years ago who'd seen part 2 a few times but had never seen the first. I happened to have it on tape so we watched it.

Yes, because in the first film we saw how the doctor from the year 1955 started to care about Marty and how meeting him changed his life, knowing that he would live 30 years and invent a time machine, now in the third film he discovers that his equivalent from the year 1985 had Marty as his best friend and the time they spent together was very important, making him see why Marty risked the future by writing the letter before returning to the future

@@Verebazs I read the book and it said that between the time Marty presented the letter to Doc and the time Doc read it, they freshened up and had breakfast, and stuff like that. This would explain why during the reading of the letter, they are wearing their shoes.

What would have been funny is if they did freshen up, Marty could have taken a shower and asked Doc where the Coast is, and Doc says, "down on the other end of town by the lighthouse." Or Marty could have asked Doc if he has any "Zest" and Doc could have said, "Marty, I am not that kind of person". This, of course, referring to the different brands of soap in the 1980's.
