CU alum here. You definitely need a bicycle to get to your classes unless you're really fast at power walking. I loved the time I spent at the University of Colorado! and the bookstore was a ripoff :)

The snow thing sounds like the public school system in CO. There are days when students and teachers just take the day off, whether for 4/20, or for a student protest, apparently organized by the teachers. I don't know what the deal is with this. When I was in school (27 years ago, now), they were not nearly this casual about shutting it down for a day. It took a pretty serious snow day (something akin to a blizzard) for school officials to declare that school was shut down. We used to laugh when we'd hear that other states had shut down school for an inch of snow. This went for public school and college.
