The University of Manitoba is the oldest in Western Canada. The University was founded in 1877 and is over 144 years old. The University is not only the oldest in Western Canada but is also the largest university in the Manitoba region and ranks #17 in the whole of Canada.
The University is popular for its number of faculties and it offers hundreds of degree programs yearly. Over the years, the university has strived to remain the post-secondary learning institution at the top of intensive research. It has competitive research and academics program that keeps it at the top when it comes to ranking within the Canadian Plains.
When it comes to research, the University of Manitoba has made many world-renowned contributions. In the 1970s, the university made a groundbreaking record of canola oil invention. Among the University Alumni are Nobel Laureates, Olympic medalists, academy award winners, recipients of Rhodes Scholarship, order of merit awards and the list goes on.
The University of Manitoba is also accountable for producing popular government personalities like Supreme Court justices, members of parliaments, and others. The University of Manitoba is also a member of the Universities of Canada and also has a global affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, as well as the International Association of Universities. The University of Manitoba is also a member of U15. With regards to global outreach, the University of Manitoba is home to a diverse student’s body in Canada.
The university’s Fort Garry campus is strategically located along the Red River in south Winnipeg. Downtown Winnipeg is home to the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, which houses the colleges of pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, nursing, and rehabilitation sciences. The faculty of health sciences sits next to Manitoba’s tertiary health care center, the Health Science Center. Besides the Fort Garry campus, the University of Manitoba also has other satellite campuses across the area.
There are many reasons to consider studying at the University of Manitoba. Graduates of the University of Manitoba are scattered around the world. Currently, there are over 140,000 alumni of the university living in 137 countries. The alumni, donors, students, staff, faculty, and partners of the university are strongly engaged.
