University of Wollongong REVIEW - An Unbiased Review by Choosing Your Uni

Twenty years ago, one of the first universities I visited was the University of Wollongong.
So it's a little ironic that UoW is the last university for which I'm creating one of Choosing Your Uni's unbiased uni reviews!
And in some ways I feel like I've kept one of the best for last!
There's something to be said for Australia's universities outside the major capitals: universities that understand their regions and their communities, locations where the pace of life (and stress!) is just that little bit slower, but where you can get an excellent education all the same.
And UoW is definitely one of those institutions!
It's one of the prettiest campuses in all of Australia with great courses and heaps of social and extracurricular options for students.
So let's take a walk around the University of Wollongong and talk about what makes this place special, and whether or not it might be the right university for you.

Loved my year at UOW in 2018-2019. Beautiful campus (doesn't look like it's changed much since), friendly people, and really quality educators. Does this mean there's no chance of an updated QUT review? All good if not - such a great series!

Yes, I'll definitely get back to QUT but no time soon. Working on a major update to the whole Choosing Your Uni experience, so that's got priority right this second!

A University whose origins are older than most think. Has had strong links with the local heavy industries since the 1950's and has turned out many fine academics in engineering and scielce disciplines that worked in those industries.

Love your work. Reseach master of phylosophy , as I understand, has fees covered. If not. Cannot do. How others afford fees these days?

Hello! I wonder what are the best Australian Universities for studying - indigenous culture, community and psychology. Could you recommend any masters progrmas or shorter courses?

Hi! Sorry to be slow replying, this was a really good question so I wanted to think about it. In my view, I think regional universities where there's a closer link between community and the university will tick this box better. There's a long list: Wollongong, Newcastle, Charles Sturt, Southern Cross, CQ Uni, James Cook, Darwin, Tasmania, Federation Uni. I don't want to recommend a specific one because that really depends on your other interests and preferences.

Does anyone know if you can complete your bachelors degree in their main campus in Wollongong? or is it limited to the Sutherland campus only? (According to the internet) Would appreciate clarification!

Which degree? If you start a degree on the main campus you should be able to finish the whole thing there.

Current one is only 18 months old so not a huge amount has changed tbh. Will likely get back there in the next 6 months.

smaller uni also means less diversity (more fascists), smaller campus, uglier and older facilities. social life is dry as. lowkey my eyes hurt its so ugly. thanks for the super positive video tho, hopefully i can convert

Not for everyone. Not sure about the fascist count on Oz unis, it’s not one of the metrics I look at
