@@alonsoJ2002 I honestly don't know all that much, I just know that Japan in general has been under the thumb of Euro-US imperialism, often as a chess piece to use against China, so it's good to see youths opposing it. Supposedly the Japanese constitution is in large part written directly by US representatives, for example, but tbh Japanese imperialism is something I need to learn more about.

Imagine paying thousands of dollars for your degree at university, and being denied the right to protest how those funds are used. Columbia is a private University. They're allowed to set their own rules. The right to protest only applies to public areas, and can be limited by police etc. Also, they're protesting financial divestment of Columbia's endowment funds from supporting Israel, which is a private protest. In theory, they could protest on public property elsewhere, but I imagine that wouldn't have a lot of impact.

@@zacharykam5161 they have organised a sit-in at the 11 University Gardens building from 22 January until 6 February and onwards, when the university promised to bring the Glasgow Against Arms and Fossile Fuels demands to be heard at university court with a representative working group chaired by a member of university court. The court is the governing body of the university and will make a decision by the time of June.

It's hard to say because the numbers keep going up. It started with 9 schools, and it was only the really big schools like Colombia, Princeton, Harvard, etc., but now it's up to 40, and it doesn't seem to slow down. Even my school (UNC-Charlotte) is protesting. It's spreading like wildfire.

I'm sorry but him showing the Vietnam war thing is craaaaaaazy. Even southern schools teach that the Vietnam war was bad and that the student protests were invaluable to ending it. Hell, I've even had my deeply religious grandmother tell me about how at the time my grandfather was jusssst almost old enough for the draft, and she was terrified he was gonna be drafted (not only because she didn't want him to be killed, but because their religious sect swears off conflict or killing of any kind). Then again I doubt this guys (the Joe guy, not hasan lol) family was even part of the draft, so how the hell would he know.

I used to work for Pomona College. Not surprised that they sent in riot gear cops to take in protestors. I almost got arrested twice by campus security for taking campus video and photos. I was the schools Video and Photographer for their communications dept.
