@@currysues We have vaccines for small pox, both the traditional way of just giving people cow pox, and a shot form based on a weakened virus of it. If your in the army, you'll likely be vaccinated against it before deployment as a just in case measure. There's also a vaccine for anthrax, though unless your likely to come in contact with anthrax i would highly recommend never getting the vaccination.

I have read andromeda strain five times. The reason it was so effective was it felt real. It didn't rely on this sad pulp melodrama to drive an action plot to keep brain deficient people distracted.

In the 1971 version of this film (Andromeda Strain), there were not any nanobots (nanoid robotics). The movie is much faster paced, though for people who mostly want a lot of high paced action scenes - - it’s more suspense. I have to admit, that the colicky baby’s constant crying was very irritating!! 😵‍💫😬

This is a really good classic. Really good read worth checking out. It’s been forever since I read it need to reread it now. Also the books plot is very different from this. Never saw this version of the movie but it’s very different.

The original novel is by the same guy as _Jurassic Park_ , you have to go into it assuming all technology is doomed to fail because the designers thought they were perfect and didn't make good failsafes.

I think the implication is more that the people in the future didn't have a way to fix it, and realised that the only solution was something that had gone extinct by their time, so they basically sent it back in time with _intent_ of infecting people. Basically a "fix this while it's still fixable, or put us out of our misery" hostage situation.

Makes sense. They want the blast zone to contain the epicentre _and_ the virus' potential spread radius, with a wide berth in case they underestimated. It's despicable, for sure, but basically a "better to kill half of them to save the other half, then leave them alone so everyone dies" thing. Comes up a lot whenever there's a chance of some sort of extinction-level threat like Andromeda.

lighting the vehicle on fire under the overpass would not have worked. The HUMMVEE the soldiers were in could have dropped and over the obstacle. It also likely could have just pushed the burning vehicle out of the way. the soldiers also would have been able to move faster on foot

WOW!!! It took me a while to put the pieces together... I understood after Kyle and the Baby were okay. This is the remake of a 1960s70s movie and people turned to dust not just that their blood turned to dust.. Well Done. But still scary... and I don't remember what the name of the original was. Where there is a sickness... and the Jewish man lights the gas on fire to separate the cars because they were not being allowed to stop anywhere... and he was a Jewish prisoner from WW2.
