Here we go! First job out with the new Prinoth M450e-900 mulcher for the Kubota U55. We are mulching and underbrushing an overgrown section near a road that is about an acre. This area had a homeless encampment in it, the client had all the debris removed and now we are going to mulch it out.

Cordless Sawzall can make quick work of those drum jams. Also keep you some good heavy duty wire cutters around for when you find a old barbed wire fence.

Some, not all, interstate exit interchanges have visibility problems when trees and brush are not maintained. This mulching head was a great purchase for your business. So much more power than the MTL attachment. Especially for heavy brush/tree work like this. Excellent video. Please show the completed job.

Man, this thing has been a whole different level over the rotary cutter I have. Don't get me wrong, that thing is great but on the bigger material, 2-8" in diameter or so this thing just eats. It is super handy, especially in tight areas like this where you can get that head into tight areas between larger trees and not have to come back by hand and cut that stuff out manually. This thing would kick ass on your 260 for sure!

How do you decide when to use the brush cutter or the mulcher. Seems like you use the mulcher when the brush cutter would be fine to use. Thanks. I'm looking to buy one or the other. Can't afford both.

That's does look fun! Can't wait to see you tearing stuff up once you get the hang of it!! You should look at getting a wire cage that you can attach or remove easily when doing mulching jobs with the mini ex. One of those branches can easily fly back at you when cutting from a height. Look at what just happened to Let's Dig 18 and his 220.

Have you tried running with the blade behind you to act as a counterbalance? Also, You could chain a log sourced from the site to add temporary ballast.
@idigit4967

The log is an interesting idea. I have cut with the blade behind me, it's not as good as the blade in front but its more stable than cutting over the side.

Do you happen to know where the people who were homeless ended up? Are there state or local programs to help them? Seems like an encampment that size indicates a pretty big need.
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know where they ended up, no. We do have a pretty bad problem with the homeless here, particularly in the spring and summer months when it's warmer, but not as bad as places like Atlanta, where I used to live. This area was likely chose by the homeless as its close to the local community assistance center where they give the homeless food and clothes and stuff. But in my opinion all this does is enable them, there is no real push to help these people get back on their feet, they just help them get by with food and clothes but don't help them get out of the situation they are in. So then find areas near the assistance center and set up shop until they are found and told to leave.

Those heads for the excavator good for tight hard to reach areas. But seem to small for big jobs where a bigger Fecon head n a skid steer works better. Would take less time with a skid steer and cut those bigger then 4 inch trees.
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah both the mini and skid steer have their advantages. I went with this set up due to how tightly packed the mature trees were in there. There was a lot of small areas that I was going to have to work this head into that a skid steer mulcher would not have been able to do and that would have left me with a ton of hand work, which I didn't really want to do LOL! Thanks for watching Drew!

Will this make those riverbank jobs easier? Must have been an extra tough decision as you already have a tool that can do a lot of that work!
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely will make some of those jobs easier for sure, especially when there is larger material that has to be cut. It was a little tough but I knew this was the right tool for this job, If I had gone with the skid steer head that would have worked but I would have had a ton of hand work cleaning up the tight spaces between the larger trees and that just wouldn't have been fun.

You have to be happy with that performance! Looks like you’ve been running that pair for years. Lots better than some others I’ve seen with their mulchers. Machine doesn’t look “tippy” and you’re not bouncing and slamming into things. Is that 521 in the background?

Some things I’ve found handy to keep on the truck= battery powered sawzall and grinder and @10”flat/pry bar. The flat bar is also handy to shovel/clear the tracks
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
The sawzall is a great idea, I'll definitely be adding that! The machine definitely isn't that tippy, even over the side it isn't that bad unless you are reaching out really far and really high. Blade in front or behind and she's totally stable.

Question; At what point do you need to worry about the glass (upgrading to safety cage) while operating that head. I assume since it is angled 90 degrees from your sitting position it might not pose a imminent item?

I can tell you it definitely does a better job with larger diameter material than the rotary MTL head. And it does have containment, it is in the head itself, when it sucks things in from the back side it runs it up into the head and shreds it on the wear plates.
