If the guy was in the hospital and rehab for 2 MONTHS, you know the hospital bill is well into six figures! I had a simple mitral valve repair 3 years ago, the insurance paid over $50,000 for the surgery and procedures, one MRI is around $3,000 alone, so you can guess the boy's hospital bills are probably closer to one million dollars than $500,000 by the time all is said and done.

I turned 20 a few months ago, and neevr have i thought it a good idea to drive someone’s car without them looking me in the eye saying “take my vehicle” or without them texting or calling me saying “take my vehicle.” And then to get into a crash and blame the crash on someone who wasnt there?! The only possible way that there could be 0.1% fault to the R/O is that there was severe lack of maintenance and something like a wheel fell off, but even then, it’s your own damn fault you were driving the car and crashed it

What a stupid defendant! By law, you can't drive a car without a driver's license. She had no driver's license, she crashed the car, she totaled the car, and her boyfriend ended up in the hospital and in rehab for the injuries he sustained, and she points the finger at the plaintiff?! Again, the judge would be committing a great disservice if she allowed something like that to just slip right by her. I don't blame the judge for being hard on her. We have too many idiots that have licenses who drive recklessly, so you can only imagine how bad it is to have a motorist out there who doesn't know the rules of the road.

Depends on the situation, if she crashed the car into another person car or not, she or her family would've very likely been pressed with charges, since she was 17 and a minor, but if it was crashed on say a light pole or fire hydrant, involving no other person, likely the cousin could've pressed charges, but didn't for some reason or another

Great in theory, problem is you're just going to increase the number of unlicensed drivers on the road for a longer period of time. If they drove without a license once, and now they can't get a license until they're 25, you can bet they are just going to keep driving without a license.

If you gave someone permission to drive your car, knowing they don't have a driver's license, and they crash your car, then it's negligent entrustment, and you would likely be held liable for the accident, not the driver. This is the idea that the defendant was trying to convey. However, there was a flaw in this argument because the owner (plaintiff) was not there to give her permission to drive during that accident so the defendant cannot argue from a basis for negligent entrustment.

The real question is how she totaled that car in INDIANA! The speed limit is so LOW… like 45/50 on the highway slow. TF was she doing!

Shame on this girls mother to even let her THINK for a minute this isnt her fault. This should have never made it to court, any decent mother would have immediately had this fool of a child, working to make payments. She could have killed her boyfriend. df

Incredible nerve. Incredible stupidity. I guess whatever they were paying defendants to be yelled at on TV at the time was enough to convince these idiots to go through with it.
