Today we talk about 3 different thing i started to focus on to unlock distance! Throwing techniques in disc golf are everything, and putting them all together will help ad distance to your game. It was crazy to see my consciously trying to do things correctly and still falling short, but I would have never known if I didn't film my shots! Thanks for all the support!

Something that has really helped me engage my body is thinking about the opposite shoulder. I see a lot of people keep it almost still and crunch their chest as they reach back. Drop that opposite shoulder back and allow your shoulders to rotate or else you’re fighting your own body if that makes sense. Also I don’t play anymore but I used to watch your supercell videos too! Thx for the years of great content amigo

Been playing casually for about 3 years, and more seriously in the past year, competing in MA3. I can throw around 275-300 reasonably accurately in the woods. In an open field I can usually get my drivers anywhere from 330-350, with the occasional longer throw.

Thank you. Newbie here, this has been helpful and encouraging. A good shot is approaching 200' for me. Most are 125'-150'. However, I blew my right shoulder out and have been throwing left-handed. Not ideal, but hopefully will pay dividends down the road. Looking forward to being able to throw right-handed again soon. Love being outside throwing golf discs on the course and just practicing..

A thought from a high level golfer and rising disc golfer, in golf I approach every situation focusing on relaxing and making the right movements. I make sure that my line is correct and I trust my preparation. I have been using this concept in disc golf to great success. Focusing on mechanics and then trying to execute each shot correctly. When I do that I shoot great scores. Thanks man love your content keep up the good work!

Holy guacamole!!! I just took what I learned from this video to the links and shaved several strokes off my game. That focus on the foot plant is so spot on! Just like you said, my hips engaged and what a huge difference! I could feel it in my fingers as the disc just shot out with so much more speed! Huge difference on the power of my drives - all my shots, and accuracy too! I just signed up for your patreon. I'm 62 and have been playing disc golf for 5 years now. I relate to this so much, knowing what you need to change and thinking you are but being stuck in the same bad habits. I have been stuck at 325-350 max distance for like 8-9 months. I think my biggest distance ever was like 380 but never been able to do that consistently. Been very frustrating. Also cool seeing another gamer in disc golf :). I am an esports commentator (currently working with Valorant but came from CS:GO) and been doing disc golf for 2 years now. I've started doing some disc golf commentary/content. Even did some work for DGPT recently. Neat to see more and more gaming/disc golf crossover!

I'm pretty new to the sport. Struggling to get more distance, haven't consistently broken 300 yet. I went to the field yesterday to focus on these things, specifically and saw great results. Added about 20-30' to what my average has been, really focused on slowing things down, pointing my plant toe back and trying to rotate my heal back and locking my plant leg. I'm very pleased with the initial results. I hit 300' several times yesterday. Thanks so much for this video.

ADD is such a fun thing for Disc Golf... I find myself looking back at my disc and thinking 'pull it through nice and level'.. and don't bother looking till the disc has gone... meanwhile completely forgetting where my feet are or if I'm doing an X step or crow hop... and then either let the disc go.. or pull through hitting myself instead of pulling slightly from the side... The voice in my head isn't just a monolog... it's a shouting match. Even now, every letter I type is a battle with the voice dictating the script... Sometimes I manage that silence when i can just hear.. "That link.... that link there" instead of "I wish someone would shut that dog up, whats that wind about to do, did I put in the last score, did I pickup my disc/marker at that last shot." And you know I didn't pick up that disc, or the marker.. in fact I dropped my phone, lost my glasses and am 2 holes behind in scoring... Fun. But at 55 I can still hit 300ft and can backhand all day... But now I need to watch Michael a bit more because everything he said is ME... Always too fast.. Adding effort for distance.. and I bet my foot is pointing forward!... and i KNOW my putting is letting me down (Just yesterday I gave away 4 strokes to a put that went perfectly... into the lip of the basket... I may hit one in 20 too high... what does that tell me... PAY ATTENTION ME... The signs are all there telling me what to do... sigh.

Im 53 post back surgery. when I started hitting 280 to 300 was the goal, this was 2015. then in 2019 I took two years off for an injury, just before I did with field work and practice I was able to hit 325 plus on an up hill or flat shot, much farther downhill. I had an obvious issue with my form that I couldn't fix, so in the 2 years I took off, I started over studying form, taking videos working on it etc.. I'm back to 300 to 320 with accuracy slightly uphill, so within 300 I'm pretty solid, and on a dead flat or downhill maybe 325 to 400 but getting back to 325 and over is proving to be a task. I'm out of shape after a long break from playing and arm speed is low, so I believe my form is a lot better now than it was and after a few months of practicing now that it is warming up outside again pretty soon, that I will get back to 325 plus with little trouble. Whether or not I can get farther is the question. Id like to say 350 as a base, but realistically I'm coming up short right now.

Great stuff in this one, thank you! As a long term ball golfer (and recent disc golf convert) I have played a bunch of tournaments and completely understand what you mean about simplification. My approach was to always take one key swing thought into tournament rounds because you want to be playing purely by feel at that point and trusting in the muscle memory built from practice. I want my mind to be as clear as possible when I am playing!

So....been watching your content since back in the day of supercell gaming. Loved seeing your transition into disc golf. Field work has been something I have been working on a lot lately and I have started doing something people might see as annoying but has really improved my game and can be done with tact. I choose a course that has a hole that sets up a specific shot. There is a simply 320 foot hole that's a stable hyper with room but there are some trees along the way but an accurate shot that finishes 40ft left is a great shot. Ill grab my back of 30 discs, putters midranges and control drivers, and I will work on that shot with all of those discs. It's helped my extend my putter, mid-range and control driver accuracy and increase my distance. I think what you are doing is great. One of these days I'll be as good as you! GG!

Loved this video. I struggle to say my typical accurate distance because some days I’m putting it all together and other days I’m not. Playing for just over a year. Throwing 300 accurately. Max distance 400. I get that 300 with a crave or grace (very different speeds). I can typically get a bit further with a Shryke but I need an open hole. That’s where I’ve hit 380-400 decently accurately, but I only get the turn out of the Shryke like half the time, depending on if I hit the power pocket or not.

I throw maybe 330ft on golf lines, I've thrown 400+ft on holes before to get eagles looks. I usually grab a Grace or Lucid Air Trespass for max distance. I do field work mostly on holes where there are features that I need to practice on. This is the biggest benefit of living in a relative rural place with not so much people out on the course. So I throw maybe 3-5 drives of most of the tees during a round to really get good practice. Open field is just when I really want to rip a few In less than one year of playing I do 110m golf lines with pretty good consistency and max out at around 130.

I can throw 250-300 accurate with mids, FDs and even an Envy depending on the hole. Can rarely/circumstantially throw 350-400 and i still avoid throwing DDs, I feel like I can throw an FD just as far as a DD but with much more control. I really like your point about foot placement. I never connected the idea of how improper foot placement can lead to opening up your hips too soon. I am currently still on a bounce back from a back injury but I’m looking forward to trying these tips out even with my MDs and FDs. If I start throwing my Mids 300-330 consistently I’ll know that my foot placement was a little off and that my hips were likely too open. FYI been playing for about 2 years now but have had to take it easy the last 6-9 months. Great vid and thank you for asking to respond in the comments 🤙

One thing I struggle with when I force myself to slow down and still throw for full distance is matching my upper body with my lower body speed. I end up rotating my shoulders a lot faster than my legs and hips were moving, and I yank it over hard to the right (RHBH.) I’m not sure how to fix this. Also, I’ve never connected the front foot placement to the angle of my hips, I just tried to focus on really engaging my hips and not seeing much improvement. The way you explained it here makes so much sense. I bet I’ve been keeping my hips open way more than I thought I was. I’ll be working on that today. Thanks for such great tips!

I've always been able to throw 400+ but I know my form is not perfect or even close to it and recently I've gone to throwing all stand stills and I'm only allowing myself to play with a putter, Berg, Buzz and Exodus. I have really been focusing on what you are talking about, correct foot placement, full reach back, slowing down and the correct chain reaction and it actually impressive. At first this was kind of a challenge but now I'm throwing these almost all as far I do with a full run up but I'm way more accurate and I actually have throw a couple of my best rounds with this trimmed down bag and limited run up.

I've been playing over 10 years and am in my 40s now. My distance has actually got better the older I've got. I used to throw 200 250 all day everyday but as I've got older and worked on my throwing motion some I've seen 300 350 with great regularity. Having said that, my longest throw was well over 400 feet but the T Box was elevated and I had a great tailwind working in my favor and had a perfect throw. I've started working slower speed disc's as well recently and have noticed that I see even better distance and accidentally stumbled on the heizer flip recently as well and am seeing closer to 350 400 now when I nail it.

I throw 370'-400' accurately, and all out 450'. And the only reason I've gotten that accurate is from implementing stuff from overthrow discgolf and watching you! Slowing down like you said has made it easy to throw mids and putters from 100-310 area. It's crazy it really feels like 40% power with 100% distance you're wanting

I made my other comment before I saw the end of the video. I have been working very hard for a long time on my form, Ive taken hundreds of videos practiced for hours upon hours per week etc,.. and the most irritating thing is exactly what you pointed out, when you know exactly what to do, yet you can not get your body to actually do it, is maddening. I used to have an issue with my reach back, but no matter how many times I tried to fix it I just could not in the moment. so I changed my form all together and today my form is much better cleaner more efficient, but I still fail to execute properly. I think the only way is to slow it way down, work the fundamentals to death over and over with a net, which is boring to do but needs to be done, until you have it memorized, and it is just your natural movement, which as you know sometimes feels like it will never happen.

I would have to say my best throw ever was with a discmania enigma and threw it about 411 up here in CO. It was a nice smooth throw and pured the throw, didn't throw it with all my might and just smoothed it out there. I can usually get around 350-400ish with a DD trespass and I can throw it pretty accurately where I want it and not have it get squirrely on me.

most accurate golf distance shot would be an essence at around 300-320ft with a hyzer flip. (low wind). 250-280 with putters mid ranges. (pure, penrose). I recently started to show some more accuracy with distance drivers, maybe 320-340ft, orc, wraith, dd2, destroyer. (gline/gstar plastic). its winter still so not sure what will happen when spring eventually comes along.

The second tip you give about not tensing up is huge. I have been playing just over a year and on a "smash" with a good wind i would hit 290-310. Recently i have been really focusing on keeping my arm loose and letting it be able to really snap like a whip and i can functionally hit 330-350 in a meh wind. I have some flexibility issues to work on with my hip which i am sure will add some distance. That is throwing a grace and a shryke.

I also want to point out that rotating on the front heel protects that knee from some gnarly meniscus issues long term. Alot of torque is put on your knee when it's bent and twisting on the ball of the foot. Speaking as someone who spent several years in school studying anatomy/physiology.

I throw my tour series luna accurate up to 300ft. Buzz I throw accurate 325. Drivers (Heat, Raptor, Anax) 350-375 fairly accurate. Distance (Hades, Nuke, Force) around 400 - 425 fairly accurate. I tend to throw the slowest disc I can for the shot at hand. Most of the courses I play at around Charlotte are less about distance and more technical in nature (I play out in Albermarle, NC mostly).

In the field I’ve thrown over 500ft (usually 400+) but I feel comfortable throwing 300-350ft accurately. I think I focused too much time on power and that’s affected my accuracy.

I throw drivers about 100-120m (330-390ft) with a grace/trespass as max distance throws and feel really comfortable throwing mids accurately up to about 280-300ft (claymore and md3 are my go to's) throwing putters is a super strong part of my game from 60-75m (200-250ft) using an aviarx3, p model us and judges, playing for 18 months but get out 4-5 times a week

That turn on your toe thing is HUGE. I've made improvements on my game and score better now being more consistent, but I throw shorter than I did when I first started playing in 2020 because I got into that bad habbit of planting and rotating on the ball of my foot. Need to get the cheapy tripod back out and try and get it sorted!

Throw 250 accurately, max out at 275 - 300. 60 years old, played for a little over a year, have two titanium rods in my back from major back surgery 10 years ago (because of golf).

So like I used to be able to throw 400 fairly accurately, but then I destroyed my left knee, and had surgery, then destroyed the repaired knee, which was not repaired, and then had a spinal cord injury that required surgery and left my left hand paralyzed. Now I've started playing again after the injuries and time off. When I've started back late last summer, I could only reach about 200. I started studying and practicing, and now I'm throwing 280 pretty consistently this past month.. Videos like this help me out a lot.

Dang man, sorry to hear about all the surgery. Happy you’re still getting out and playing though! If you throw lighter more understand me discs that might get more distance since you can’t rely on your knee as much

@@MHDiscgolf I hadn't even thought about that, but I'll definitely try it. Since studying form so much the last couple of months, I have added a bit, but even with the knee, I don't see any reason why I can't get back to 400 consistently.

330 accurate with a fairway driver, 280 with Midranges and 250 and under with Putters. When I get up to 12 + disc speeds my accuracy drops off but I get maybe 50ft more distance. So my bag is a lot of 7 to 10 speed discs. This will be my 2nd full year of playing and I'm 43 years old for reference.

I started playing late summer last year and maybe had an accurate distance of around 150ft. (i am no athelete at all😂) Been working this off season at the beginning of this year and now I think I am at around 250ft. Accurately and my goal is to hit around 300ft. I am completely fine with it being in-between 250-300ft. For this summer season as long as it is accurate. My biggest problem is discs ending up nose up even though I am thinking about holding my wrist down so I am just working on that more than distance atm.👌🏻

I have been playing for 2 months and put in 70 hours of fieldwork before playing a round. I'm hitting 275 with my buzz and 310 with fairway driver relatively consistently. I only trust my buzz in rounds though and default to my left handed hyzer backhand whenever possible.

I have been playing about 1.5 years. Can hit 280' golf lines with mids and 310' with slow fairway drivers. Still smoothening out fundamentals so I can throw a mid over 300'

Distance lines consistently hit 510ft. Golf lines accurately hit 460ft. Pretty happy with that as of now. Not useful on too many courses around me, but I've started getting my rollers out to 620+ fairly consistently as well.

I was 4 time NJ state DG champion in my early 20s, then took 41 years off. I picked up the sport again less than a year ago. I can land within 15 feet FH and BH up to 200 feet out with a putter. A fairway driver I'm equally accurate to about 275. These are standstill or one step throws. I'm working hard to stop pulling, which is something I was excellent at 40+ years ago, and throw with a relaxed arm. Taking the steps out is helping me focus on changing technique. I feel I'm on the verge of a breakthrough-smooth, effortless, consistent throws. Then I'll add the footwork back into throwing from tees, and that should add 5mph to my arm speed. My goal is to move max distance now at 330 to over 400, consistently.
