I think on of the reason why french people "make fun" of accents is because they are in a way jealous/embarrased. It's well known that french are bad at learning languages and when they hear either a french person speaking english with a good accent or an native english/foreign speaker speaking a very good french, there is jealousy. And then they make fun because they're embarressed too. I never heard a french who speaks a good english with a shitty french accent making fun of a person with a good accent. I don't know if I'm clear haha!

Interesting point! Of course, it’s not all French - and mostly in Paris, from my experience - but who knows why some people don’t speak back in the language you addressed them in. Often I’m sure they want to be helpful. Props to anyone trying a new language, especially if they’re still learning! Bisous
