Octave technique is exceptionally unique and comfortable for piano students. However, many piano students often overlook the fact that octave technique encompasses three distinct types. To truly excel and play octaves seamlessly, mastering all three types simultaneously is essential. Selecting just one type for practice can lead to challenges down the road, underscoring the importance of practicing them together.
Octave technique hinges on precise hand action and the moment you begin to perceive them as melodic shapes, octaves become one of the easiest scales and techniques to play!

Got excited when you mentionned 3 types of octaves :) But I got a few more: - with fingers 52 LH dropped octaves (Feux follets) interlocked in fast mode transpositions and dropped octaves in fast scales in general (with 15 and 25 RH), Godowsky étude 4 etc.. - glissendi octaves by 2 (Semaine grasse, Mazeppa) or on white scale (Beethoven, Brahms) or on black scale (Chopin 5 op.10) - octaves with something else inside (Mazeppa, Semaine grasse, Petrouchka, Stravinsky; 3 concerto Rachmaninoff, Fantasy after Don Juan, Liszt, Godowsky étude 4 etc) - double octaves on one hand (eg., Bb3,Db3,Bb4,Db4) (Gibet, Gaspard de la nuit) - quad octave or triple thirds on two hands (Fantasy after Noces de Figaro, Mozart/Liszt) - triple octave on one hand (Harmonies du soir and a variation of it in Mephisto, Liszt) - interlocked octaves (Mazeppa, Après une lecture de Dante, Tannhäuser Overture, Wagner/Liszt, Corpus Cristi in Sevilla, Albeniz..) - scale with jumps (Mazeppa..) - scales with changing fingers (eg., 13,14,15; Rhapsodie hongroise 6, Liszt, Erlkönig Liszt, Toccata Schumann..) - soft octave planning (Reflets dans l'eau, études, Debussy) ...

@@LogioTek Actually there is a bit of piano (with octaves) in the Bosh video, extract of a bigger improvisation. And the whole music is an original composition, multi-paradigm.

@@MathieuPrevot Yea I hear that now lol I must have had sound off when I checked it last time because video context wasn't musical. I personally love listening to improvisations that go somewhere, even if they are short. My favorite pianist never plays anything the same way twice outside of main melody lines that make the piece recognizable and I love it because you can experience the same piece many different ways.
