Hello. Thanks for the message. I used to serve the County of Mendocino as the Interim (consultant) Building Official for about a year (2016/2017), which is why I include bits about Mendo in the videos. The energy forms values are the most challenging to present without getting into long ass videos (to be very frank). I am hopeful to present how people can use GPT to help prepare these forms; some day soon I will crack the prompts to achieving this; in the mean time, the energy forms that do not require HERS inspections are the simplest to complete (and depending on the scope of work); for your mechanical upgrade, if the work will trigger a HERS rater inspection (such as a new or replacement HVAC, new duct work, new AC unit) then the CF1R-ALT-02-E are the forms typically needed; link to forms www.energy.ca.gov/filebrowser/download/4688 The last 5 pages of this document includes the instructions on how to fill in the form. Once again, I would highly advice using GPT to help complete the form; in fact, if you have the upgrade to GPT, you can copy/paste a snip of each table and have GPT instruct you on how to complete it, prompts are key though. Also keep in mind that the form will need to be "registered" through CHEERS, or CalCERTS; however, the HERS inspectors typically handle the paperwork (CF1Rs (submittal) and CF2R (post submittal)), if your project will require a HERS. Furthermore, probably the only item I can think of that is exempt from HERS is the installation of a wall furnace; and, for those installs the non HERS forms are required to be submitted. @@EricB you may prepare the permit application yourself, as the owner/builder - excluding the HERS forms, as those are completed by the HERS rater that conducts the tests/verifications.
