Apple's Optic ID technology works by using a combination of hardware and software to capture and analyze the unique features of a user's face.
The TrueDepth camera, which is located on the front of modern iPhones, uses infrared light to illuminate the user's face and create a 3D map of their facial features. This information is then sent to the Secure Enclave, a specialized chip within the iPhone that stores sensitive data.
The Secure Enclave compares this data against previously stored facial recognition templates to determine if it's a match. If there's a match, access is granted; if not, access is denied.
Optic ID also incorporates machine learning algorithms that adapt over time as they're exposed to more faces in different lighting conditions. This helps improve accuracy and reduce false positives or negatives.
Overall, Apple's Optic ID technology provides an easy-to-use yet highly secure way for users to unlock their devices without having to remember passwords or use external hardware like fingerprint scanners.
