Unlocking the Old Testament Part 42 - Ezekiel 1

David Pawson takes time to explain the background to Ezekiel as he says it is probably the most neglected part of the Old Testament and also difficult. Its messages were given over 20 years. Ezekiel reveals a severity in God’s character which is not usually emphasised. Paul in the New Testament referred to the “goodness and severity” of God as well. Because preachers usually concentrate on the goodness of God, listeners tend to have a one-sided view of what God is like. The southern two tribes of Israel should have known that they needed to heed God’s word because they had seen the northern 10 tribes carried off in exile. Yet they ignored prophets Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah and Habakkuk. King Josiah tried to restore the worship of God, but the people didn’t really follow his lead. Various nations attacked the land until only Jerusalem was left to the very poorest people who had not been deported. Ezekiel was taken away in the first deportation, as was Daniel, so was never able to serve as a priest but God called him to be a prophet. He preached and performed miracles.

*8:45** "The main reason for reading your Bible is to get to know God"!!! What a tremendous point!!* *18:10** "God couldve held those big powers off but God was doing that anymore. God wasn't with them anymore"!! What a profound description of what could and likely has happened to me!! "Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you"!! This is largely the reality I believe I have been living in!!!* 27:01 Breaks down the OT into 3 sections in a remarkable way!!

Also have to say, chapters 3,13,18,& 33 are extremely important for everyone to really concentrate on with the knowledge that God has not changed one drip drop of the kindness and severity of His character! Detrimental to our eternity are these 4 chapters. Because if we believe lies then we are not believing God nor His word and instead believe satans lies. There is no lie in the Lord not one, and you shall know the TRUTH and the truth shall set you free. We are not once saved always saved!

I like his approach. It's very unique. I would take issue regarding his comments on the living Bible. The living Bible is not a translation, it is merely a paraphrase. It's not really a Bible at all. That being said, I appreciate this man's ministry and how it is still reaching people in these last days.

By one book at a time David is not expecting anyone to read a complete book in a day but more to study each book as a stand alone book and finish each book before dipping into another - some books are very short and can be read in a day - other books like Isaiah will take a lot more time to read and study

25:25 The title Son of Man comes from the book of Enoch. And when you read it, it makes a lot of sense why the Jews got mad when Jesus took that title because it explains what kind of power he has from God. If you haven't read it, you need to. Enoch is quoted as being a true man of God in both the old and New Testament. And the new testament even quotes his book in Jude 1:14-15.
@DavidPawsonMinistry
@DavidPawsonMinistry 2 жыл бұрын
'The Son of Man is also the Lord of the Sabbath' - Matthew 12:8. The authenticity of Book of Enoch that we currently have cannot be proven which is why it was not included in the Bible - it is good o to read but with with the caution that it is not considered the word of God . The most complete version we have is written in the Ethiopian language of Ge'ez, so at best it is a translation of the original book no Hebrew versions exist, which also means it was not copied by a Temple 'scribe'. Its not considered Canonical by the Jews. and is believed to be written much later than Enoch and was most certainly not written by Enoch. There most certainly was a Book fo Enoch as referred to by Jude - but it is not necessarily the same book as the one we currently have. David believed it was good to read such literature, as long as you distinguish it from, (and not quote it as) Gods word
@rebornasdavid
@rebornasdavid 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidPawsonMinistry Thanks for your response on this. I am not sure of the truth of this but researching this books history says it was removed from the canon at some point. Which made me wonder why that would be. After I started reading it I felt the fear of the lord come upon me and began repenting. It had a profound effect on me. That alone gave me reason to believe I was reading the word of God. That's good enough for me. I can certainly see why Satan wouldn't want this book in the Bible based on the information inside of it. So it would make sense to me if he infiltrated someone in the church and had it removed at some point. I feel I should also add there are books in the Bible we don't know the authors of yet still accept as the word of God. I don't see that as a good reason not to accept it.
@DavidPawsonMinistry
@DavidPawsonMinistry 2 жыл бұрын
@@rebornasdavid The point here for correctness is that the Book of Enoch was not one of the 14 books removed from the Christian Bible. Satan does not want any of the Books of the Bible published as they ultimately foretell of his downfall. The book of Enoch was never included in the Jewish Bible nor the Christian Bible. It is however an important historical Text. If you are challenging the authenticity of books included in the Bible and putting the authority of the Book of Enoch as the Word of GOD in the same then I have nothing further to say.except ...... the title of ''Son of Man' may be mentioned in he Book of Enoch but it is found in Ezekiel 11:3 where the Lord calls Ezekiel........ ''Son of Man '' - vs 3 ''and the Lord said to me Son of Man - these are the men plotting evil'' ....... its a term commonly used by the Jews in referring to 'all men'
