A compilation of the most insanely unlucky things to have ever happened in Smash!
Luck so bad, that it makes you think the game was rigged from the start. But sometimes the Smash gods just want you to lose.
By the way, I tried to feature only clips where it was very clearly EXTREMELY bad luck for one player, almost as if the game wanted them to lose.
I opted to include clips like these as opposed to clips that showcased really good luck for one player and bad luck for the other (Such as a Game & Watch 9s, lucky Peach turnip pulls, S2J vs Abate etc) those clips are probably more suited for "Luckiest Moments in Smash History" since it wasn't strictly bad luck, it was extremely fortunate for one player, and unfortunate for the other.
I wanted this compilation to just be full of players having HORRIFIC luck.

8:21 For those that are confused about this clip, it would appear that Squirtle powershielded the Charge Shot (which reflects projectiles in Melee/PM), since the shield covered both Squirtle and Samus at that moment, then was immediately pushed off the stage due to Samus' hurtbox shifting from the stun animation.

@@matthewbrooks5470 I am not quite sure what exactly triggers it, but that was an old PM Lucario glitch that could happen. I don't remember if it got patched, but I think it did.

Phantom hits happen when you're one pixel off the mark though. In any other smash game he would just have whiffed and wouldn't be in this comp

Fr I love to see people having fun win or lose. If you realize we’re just lucky to have this great game and still be playing with homies, you’ll have a lot more fun. Getting hyped for your opponents combos and laughing off your own mistakes is part of the fun

I don't know why but the *woosh* transition between clips makes the video feel a lot better. It helps separate the individual clips a lot better I guess. The zoom-ins explaining what's happening are also good and are much needed in the more confusing moments. Keep up the good work

If someone is wondering what happened at 2:17, basically that’s called a “phantom hit”, which is when the damage is dealt but there is no knockback because there were literally one pixel off. Edit: the same thing happens at 3:37 (I think)

It’s not so much one pixel off as one pixel on because it’s a tiny threshold where a hitbox makes confirmed contact but it’s such a glance that the game considers it invalid.

The threshold is of 0.1, hitboxes values are set by a decimal number, so if a hitbox is set to a size of 8.0 it actually will be 7.9 because it loses 0.1 of its scalar value to the phantom hit threshold, at least it is like that in brawl, I heard that the only difference in between brawl and melee Phantom hits is that in brawl they do no damage but in melee they do

For those wondering what happened at 8:21 Samus shot her Charge Shot at Squirtle at point blank range, but Squirtle, standing directly behind Samus, powershielded the charge shot. This happened because the left edge of Squirtle's shield barely reached the charge shot's hitbox, which had just appeared to Samus's left. Being powershielded, the charge shot gets reflected and reverses its velocity completely, making it hit Samus Having (power-) shielded any move or projectile, Squirtle suffers from shield stun and gets pushed back off stage, making his shield disappear instantly. This is the same instance as a Falco laser being reflected by the back side of your shield, but this case is way more crazy
