Rules clarification from this Bing Bong, in Unmatched, if ranged you can ALWAYS attack someone adjacent regardless of zone. I guess you poke them in the eye with your bow. Big ups to @reefay for the correction

Thanks for the comparison. I think one important difference to note is that you don't HAVE to attack your opponent in Funkoverse. That isn't the goal to win like it is in Unmatched. So, rather than sitting in the same spot on your turn, you could just interact with the environment to get points, forcing your opponent to defend those.

I’ll always take card combat over dice combat. That being said, the cooldown track in Funko verse is really cool.

I picked up Funkoverse at GenCon and I have enjoyed it. I do agree with the assessment that sometimes it feels you waste turns. That can make the game feel like it drags on. Still the game is enjoyable overall and I'm happy to have it in my collection.

I have both Unmatched and Funkoverse and I’ve played both with gamers. I think the fun any gamer (seasoned or newbie) can have with Funkoverse shouldn’t be undersold. In fact, I introduced it to my Friday gaming group (very seasoned gamers) this week and we had a blast...every body loved the game. Several of them wanted to get their own copies. Both games are great fun for any gamer, just in different ways.

Unmatched is really giving me some Star Wars: Epic Duels vibes. Honestly, I might pick it up. I do hope it can get more licences so that my family will give it a better chance.

The example of ranged in Unmatched between Merlin and Alice was incorrect. Ranged can attack adjacent or within their zone. Merlin would be able to attack Alice when she was on yellow and Merlin was on green with the black line connecting them.

yeah i have the base set of unmatched. its pretty spectacular. Everytime we play im like wow that character seems pretty broken and over powered and im about dead. then all the sudden its tied up. the characters are very well balanced.... and Jurrassic Park!!!!

Honestly I don’t think Unmatched is as satisfying as a gamer because there’s way better dueling card games for gamers out there and that’s all the game has right now. Love the card art, but the boards look... just bad. Funkoverse‘s dice chucking combat may be less strategic but there’s more decisions to make in the board, the scenarios, and the teams. Funkoverse just feels like a fun, light-hearted skirmish game you don’t need to paint or bust out a ruler for, and it supports team gaming. I can definitely use more of all of that in my collection. Being able to draw new gamers (hopefully) is also a huge plus in my book, but it’s not my primary draw to it.

Unmatched would be my choice, hands down. The only things i think Funkoverse does better: Not enough characters/army building. Funkoverse has great team building. The timer system for Funkoverse is excellent.

Both seem like good games, but I'd choose Unmatched. The whole funko pop thing turns me off at this point.

Unmatched is soooo much fun. Especially with my more casual game friends. Easy to teach and fast games.

Appreciate the comparison video, however it feels pretty skewed since you only talk about the attack (challenge) actions in Funkoverse, which is strange since that's only a small part of it. Did you only try to knock out each others characters? If so you're missing the majority of the tactical depth, since most of that tactical depth takes place outside the attacks (depending on the scenario of course). There's A LOT of interesting tactical maneuvring in Funkoverse. When you play Funkoverse, the main objective isn't to knock out the opponent's characters, you always play a scenario with specific win conditions. It's possible to win a game of Funkoverse without attacking a single time! The scenarios are a big part of what's great about it. Also, Funkoverse is NOT for only non-gamers. It's light, but there is a lot of meat and tactics, once you get past the beginner mistake of only trying to attack each other.

I'm definitely all in on unmatched. Funkoverse looks cool but I'm not really into Funko pops and the minis and art in unmatched is just TOO GOOD

I have funkoverse but somehow I feel that the real comparison should be unmatched vrs dice thrones, I mean yes funkoverse and unmatched are using known IPs but that’s it. Am I the only one that feels this way? I really love dice thrones, is it better than unmatched?

Do sleeved cards fit in the box?

I dunno know. I've been watching many videos trying to figure out how to play Funkoverse games.... it's taking me more than 5 minutes...

I played Unmatched and I'm a big fan of it. I bought volume 1,2 and coble fog, little red riding hood, and robin hood. I found it really interesting, fun, and fast. However, I feel that the system 2 vs 2 did not work, because it is weird to have a discussion to fight against other teams in front of your table, and it consumes alot of time to play 2 vs 2.

I'm enjoying the collectability of the Funkoverse game. The combo of character mix is great and waiting for more. I've played Unmatched with a few characters and like it. The price tag was a little high vs Funko. Four modes of play vs one basic skirmish. I'm used to dice chucking for games. I have a huge collection of Dice Masters. Dice randomness is the games forte. If both games featured the same characters and price was lower, I would choose Unmatched. Funkoverse wins for me with custom team creation and game modes.

Thank you for comparison and honesty I have not played Funko but I love unmatched and the future looks great! Ips or not DRACULA Bruce Lee Sherlock Holmes, Medusa,Bigfoot,T-Rex, Alice man this game is so fun Swed lives! I won’t waste my time with Funko.

I would take the Unmatched cards, gameplay , and minis, and the Funkoverse board.

I was super excited for Unmatched, then I saw Funkoverse and thought I'd get that instead. After this review I think I'll get both or just Unmatched. Thanks for the comparison video.

I thought this was a good review. Having just picked up unmatched from a friend as it’s a reboot of Star Wars epic duels one of my favorite games. If I would tldw: funkoverse has popular ips and the funko name and has scenarios to give something other then pure combat. Unmatched has better game design taking the epic duels system and adding more modern board gaming techniques to it. Both are light tactical people fight each other games with a good amount of luck.

Really not doing funkoverse justice, it is a very light and easy game for anyone to pickup. But the strategy with drafting characters/items is actually pretty deep. You setup other characters with your supports etc, you shouldn't really be basic 'challenge' brawling. There are characters who are better at brawiling vs moving, trapping, assisting etc.

For me, it's very easy to choose, because I can't stand those funko dolls. God they're ubiquous! Kick a stone and you'll find one funko doll under it.
