Nikocado Avocado is no longer vegan. According to some, he was never really vegan in the first place. Here's my take on fake veganism, as well as burnout and the fad vegan diets that help create it.

He clearly was a vegan. But probably just one of those who hopped on the train and only listened to others without processing too many thoughts about the topic himself.

It breaks my heart to watch him eat the way he is eating. I had to unsubscribe. Both diets where extreme and bad for him. I can’t watch him destroy himself. I truly believe he has the MTHFR gene and all the processed foods with folic acid are harming him. One reason why is he being so bi polar. Not to mention no pro or prebiotics. So Candida rules his gut. Sad... so sad.

I think you make a really good point regarding Raw Veganism. Having spoken with a friend who grew up in a raw vegan home, she said none of the other raw vegans were very concerned about the ethical side. It was strictly about health (although I know some raw vegans are ethical vegans as well). I just think starting off from the diet standpoint links your commitment to veganism to the health results you obtain from the diet. So if you start experiencing problems from an unbalanced vegan diet, I think you're more likely to just ditch veganism and move on to the next fad diet...

I think it's a matter of what your health issues might be. I am a "health food vegan" as I don't find ethical issues with animal product consumption, but I've been eating vegan for just under six years now because my issues are more easily managed on a vegan diet. (They are all hereditary, one neurological, so my diet didn't cause them.) But if someone was just trying to lose weight or "get lean" then they probably wouldn't think to stick with veganism if they did end up developing a health issue. So I definitely see your point.

I think vegan fanaticism beeing normalized in the vegan youtube comunity is the real reason for his burnout. That is why you feel he is not beeing honest with arguments, because this isn't mainly about nutrition, this is about years of unnecessary phycological restriction. His reaction to this is just natural and predictable to happen to many other good people in the future if we don't pay attention to what's actually going on.
@bigboi7213

Vegan Positivity Thank you! It's hard to stick to a diet you believe in when your entire community is filled with nothing but hate and intolerance. The most off putting thing about Veganism is not the diet or the ethics itself, it's the fucking people. I've managed to get my entire family to eat plant based and it wasn't by fucking shaming them. It was by giving them the evidence for the nutrition, it was letting them slowly stop eating meat when they felt they were ready. And my mom still eats meat when she is stressed or feeling down, and if I shamed her everytime she did, I doubt she would still be continuing with Veganism. You hit the nail on the head

The ethical base is really necessary to stay vegan long term imo. it's just easier to do something when you have an altruistic motive. I'm not saying Nikocado was a fake vegan but I'm kind of angry on how he treated going back to eating animals. It's one thing when people say "It wasn't for me" but saying how veganism is stupid, we're really omnivores, mentioning Lierre Keith (aaaahh!) and not listening to anyone who sincerely wanted to help him... It's just frustrating.

i first went vegan for ethical reasons without really caring about the health, i had shitty lifestyle, ate a very poor diet, finally after several years i lost consciousness in metro, went home and tried to figure out what was wrong. Best evidence i had suggested i was B12 defficient, and my diet was to blame. I am russian, and there is not much information on that in russian, no researches, even vegan doctors are mostly complete idiotes. So i dicided to include cheese into my diet to not die, because i could not eat meat or fish, or even unprocessed milk. Cheese did not look much like an animal product. After about three years i learned english and now i could reach for all the information and even then i had to dig through so much bs, like Durianrider and the like. Now for the first time in my life i have a pretty healthy diet, i take B12 and D during winter and feel like a winner. I only regret i went vegetarian that time instead of a proper investigation. So actually going plant based for health reasons before ethics might better, at least safer)) Ethics does not necessarily include reasoning.

I've seen 2 ethical vegans go back to eating huge amounts of meat after years of being all about animal rights... One because her new boyfriend was against veganism and gave her so much crap about it that she started to eat meat again. The other one because he decided to not care about others anymore (including humans). It's sad but it happens. And at least in the last case I don't think that we can win these people back. He said he waited 3 weeks before making those video to know for sure what the change was like to avoid placebo , he just uploaded them way later out of order. Why are you using a plant based RD's book (not studies or anything nonbiased) to try to prove he's wrong for improving himself from eggs? The problem isn't that he's eating meat. It's that he has to shit all over Veganism in order to justify eating it. If he had just admitted that he didn't give a fuck about the animals and wanted to please his taste buds and make more YT cash then not as many people would have had a problem with it. It's the disgusting way he's trying to turn away people from Veganism, how he is making ridiculously anti-vegan claims such as how eating fish is healing his brain when it's pretty obvious he's just going through a placebo effect. He told himself eating fish would help him so now he really think it is doing so. He's absolutely ridiculous and over-dramatic. And he has a lot of supporters who love him for doing this because now they think they're also justified in murdering animals.

I don't always agree with you, but this has got to be the most reasonable constructive video I have watched about Nic. I wish you could take him under your wing and help him. People think that if you're not eating "whole food plant based, raw, rt4, high carb" it's not vegan. You can eat anyway as a vegan. Doesn't mean it's healthy, but I wish he would stop claiming veganism was the cause of his poor health when it was more poor dietary choices, whether he realized it or not.

How I became Vegan. One day I saw a link in Vegetable Police channel, it is called, 'Earthlings'. I thought it was about extraterrestrials so sat back to enjoy the next ET installment. To my horror it was not about ET's at all. I suddenly saw animals going to the slaughter house and as much as I wanted to shut it off something in me just had to see. I started sobbing my heart out, the look in the animals eyes, they know what is happening and desperately try to get away. That was one year ago. From that day forward I became instant Vegan. Still the flashbacks hit me out of nowhere. When I witness people consuming meat now, I see a picture in my head of someone holding a knife to a live animal and slicing off pieces of flesh, or stabbing the sentient being in the throat, then munching on the flesh... with no regard for that life and no awareness of the suffering of that being. The process of going instant vegan was not easy for the first month, learning from scratch about nutrition on a plant based diet, what supplements to take, what are the foods for optimal health, the trials and errors. Finding your channel was a great help, Unnatural Vegan, and others like it. I am more healthy now that I ever have been with lot's of room for improvement and learning about not only what is a healthy diet but also the environmental concerns, out depleted soil, fluoride in the water, etc, All play a part in our health issues. I tried to reason with Nick, but from his comments we are the haters.

I personally think he just want to drop the chains of the label vegan, it's more a mental thing rather than a physical one, maybe he's binging on animals right now, like flipping off the pressure of the outspoken popular vegan community.. but I believe he'll be mostly plant based in the end, maybe I don't have anything to back it up, but most ex vegans that I know still eat mostly vegan, they're just tired of thinking so much about it, they don't reject a vegetarian snack because it has honey, but they also don't go for the steak first thing in a restaurant... Mental health is also very important to maintain a lifestyle and sadly it's really hard to find something that works for all minds when at the end of the day, we may not be omnivores but we are intuitively selfish and it's not easy for us to put others first.. I think he's a good guy and he'll find his way back in the right track

I can't believe that people try to make everything vegan. You can own a bird ethically and be a vegan. Domestic birds cannot live in the wild, what do you expect to do with all of these birds? If you're against people who unethically breed animals and take animals from their natural environment (which is illegal) then protest that. Don't protest people who adopt birds or take a previously owned bird. That is ethical. Birds get so attached to their owners, more than dogs. Don't *label everything as veganism* especially when it isn't actually exploitation.

Did I hear this right? She took with the fact that his parrot was shipped to him in a box. What's wrong with that? How else are animals shipped? It's such attitudes that make non-vegans like me NEVER want to be associated with the fanaticism, even though I follow a 95% plant-based diet.

Travel Girl His parrot was not shipped in a box his turtle was. And just like dogs are transported in crates, turtles are transported in boxes. They are transported that way because it's the safest way to transport that animal. Try putting a turtle in a crate then putting it on a plane, it will get cold, it will slide around every jolt, and it will have too much space. Turtles are packed with a lot of stabilizing packaging with hand warmers to keep them warm. I don't see anything wrong with catering to an animals needs. If you're okay with dogs being transported in crates and aren't with turtles in boxes you clearly do not understand every realm of the pet world. Yes, there are people who put their heart into providing domestic animals for people and these animals are not just dogs! Hypocrisy!

Nikocado is just a kid after all... a very emotional kid at that. Blaming "veganism" in its entirety was so wrong of him to do. He should have just taken a blood test to see where the problem lies. He could have low testosterone because he stated on VG's channel that it's hard for him to gain muscle... or it could be several other reason not related to veganism. But w/e completely changing your diet without knowing what your body actually needs is a foolish move. Imagine if it is his testosterone levels, no amount of animals products would change anything.

Alianknight I mean no offense, but I really want to know: Why do so many people call 20-somethings "just a kid"? It's a scary and relatively new trend. I know 16 yo REAL kids who are much more mature than Nik, and not only is this to their benefit, but it's also to the benefit of our future, and the future of the whole world. I just don't understand why so many people (especially Westerners) seem to think that everyone is a "kid" until they hit 30 or 40. It doesn't bode well for the future of the real kids. . .

Again, great video. I would also like to add that this is convenient timing for him to eat animal products again. He just went to LA and has been planning a collab with Trisha Paytas. He also revealed in a video that he might be on a reality show on the food Network. He flat out admitted that being vegan would limit his role in the show. He is desperately grasping at fallacies to justify eating meat. He had many helpful comments from vegans (including yours) but he listened more to the comments saying that he should eat meat (I know this because he would pin those comments or favorite them). Nik wants to appeal to the mainstream. He wants fame. He left comments on Trisha's video saying that he can't wait to do a collab, *which happened literally days before he made the video saying he didn't want to be vegan anymore!* The reason why he is going all out on the animal products is for views. No one is going to watch him do mukbangs of eating just a tiny piece of meat and the rest plant based. People want to see comfort food in mukbangs, and comfort food is extremely unhealthy (fast food, fried foods of animal saturated fat). We know that this will be included in his weekly mukbangs, and he posts more than one mukbang a week. It seems like his decision to eat meat again is for his mukbangs and his channel. Domino's pepperoni pizzas and McDonald's is not going to improve his violin playing and his memory problems. He said when he went vegan, his violin skills regressed.

Nick did not just give up veganism because of specific nutrients like B12 or DHA, which yes, he could have easily remedied with oysters or the like if that was the only problem. There are VAST differences in animal proteins/fats and plant proteins/fats, which affect our chemistry very differently, including but not limited to our levels of satiety, and this is the main reason he went back to animal products. He explicitly stated he was sick of having to constantly eat and never being satisfied after a meal no matter how much he ate.

Great video as always and I agree with you except for one thing. I definitely believe that eating fish after 20 years of veganism can create such sensations as the girl in your example described. I think it is exactly the same as when raw foodists try bread for the first time in x months. There for sure is not any necessary nutrient in bread (especially not compared to fish), but many still report having complete sensation and satisfaction feelings when eating it for the first time. The body can realize it just got something it needs, even when the missing nutrient has not even been digested yet.

What bothers me is that his mukbangs contain so much animal products now. Mostly animal product. While he claims that he is not eating that on a daily basis. I sure believe that he eats more veggies off camera, but I don't understand why he chooses to showcase so many more animal products than he actually eats. I don't blame him for choosing health over animals (at least in his believes), but why idealise those products like this on camera? I cannot stand how she continually chooses to perpetuate the notion that deficiencies are a more of a vegan problem. It is a PEOPLE problem. Duh there are unhealthy ways to be vegan, but iron, b12, vitamin d, calcium etc deficiencies are hardly more prevalent among the vegan community than among those who eat meat/dairy/eggs. Animal products are not the great equalizer. She makes veganism sound like it is so tricky to approach healthfully and that vegans need to be more careful than non-vegans. So incorrect. So frustrating.

I have never called anyone a fake vegan nor do I think it's appropriate, I completely agree with you on the point that it's not an argument, but I will say that there's a strong case to be made that Nick was never actually convinced of veganism. I say that largely because his arguments against veganism are way too shallow and commonly heard by people. For example, it makes no sense that he had never heard the argument "we have canines therefore we ate omnivores and it's natural" before he went vegan, or that any vegan would be unaware of that fallacy. What I'm saying is that any person who was ever vegan would likely not use such an argument because they would know why it's fallacious.

I think what bothers me most about his 'transition' is that it doesn't seem to be healthy at all. His claim was that he was feeling bad and so he needed more nutrients in his diet. But firstly, his vegan diet, or the one he would show on the internet was terrible, completely processed, large, low-nutrient meals. I mean seriously ? And then when you think he will just switch to a healthier diet including meat, nope, he eats a gigantic Oreo cake -_- Yeah cause I'm sure this will replenish his deficiencies. And this is not an isolated incident, he still eats the same style of food only now he adds real bacon, cheese, eggs etc. Not something a person worried about their health would do

Thank you so much for such a great response. When I saw the title, I was afraid that you're gonna excuse his behaviour like you usually do in your other videos (not that I find those other excuses wrong. I mostly agreed with your assesments. It's just that in the case of Nikokado, I could not agree if you were excusing him), but I'm glad I found out that you actually called him out on his behaviour. I myself am very frustrated by his - I have to use the word here - stupidity, as so many people like you got the facts straight for him and yet he's not willing to listen to a reason. The fact is that if you're having health problems on a vegan diet, in probably 99% of cases you can fix those problems without having to go back to a non-vegan diet. But from what I've seen, NA did not eve try. He just immediately grabbed those health issues and used them as an entrance ticket back to the meat-eating society. That's what bugs me most: By not even trying/taking to heart what other well-informed and educated people had said to him, he showed that he simply does not care for the animals, humans and environment.

Even before the i dont want to be vegan anymore vid i was starting to get put off by his video titles with as many animal product words that he could fit. More than anything im just irritated that his videos keep getting reccomended to me. i need to learn how to block.

Ingrid Jansson I noticed the animal products in his titles too. I think he was trying to lure in non vegans. He wanted his channel to appeal to more people. Vegans take up a small percentage of the population. That wasn't giving him the views he wanted. He wants to be a YT star.

I remember stumbling across your channel a long time ago. I'm subscribed to a lot of vegan channels, but yours is by far my favourite.

I'm interested in the dieticians you mentioned. could you provide links to their websites? great video btw. I was just talking about the issue of ethics or lack there of really making or breaking one's vegan experience. I went vegan first because I saw how good freelee looked. it was not an easy transition. when I, like you, really looked into the industry, I became an ethical vegan and it was suddenly very easy to do. now I eat whatever I want as long as it's vegan. like many people, this means I have some days that are healthier than others, but for the most part, I eat very well and only have junk food now and then. I also take a multivitamin

so frustrating your continued disdain for whole-food plant-based diets! i really don't understand. eating wfpb doesn't mean you disregard your nutrient intake, that you don't make sure you specifically get enough of x or y or whatever. i have never heard *anyone* credible suggest 'oh just eat a varied plant diet and you're fine!' -- never! no one! the biggest current proponent of wfpb, dr. michael greger, instead, for example, strongly suggests we all take b12 supplements, keep an eye on vitamin d intake or take supplements, same with iodone, selenium, etc etc. wfpb eating is not an "extreme" diet akin to raw food etc, it really isn't. what is your problem??

I think her problem is that she likes to eat vegan junk food or processed food so wfpb doesn't fit what she does, she has to criticize it for some reason.

Hes eating meat, thats fine hes human anyways, its natural. What is not natural is eating 24 cheeseburgers in one sitting. Hes not an omnivore, hes a meat eater, and that is not healthy for you just as only eating plants isnt.

Great video! I always love how logically you deal with problems. Please do a video about not eating optimally but enough on a vegan diet. I would love to see it ^.^

You hit the nail on the head! It kills me when ex-vegans make videos, trying to make it seem like the vegan diet is wrong, when actually their own convictions and actions caused them to go bad in this. It really, really kills me.

New subbie here & I have to say that what you've said in this video has really convinced me that my decision to become a vegan is the right one. My question for you is there a book or author who you would endorse that has written a book or books on vegan diets because I really would like to get as much information on the correct diet to follow since I do have some health issues & need to lose a substantial amount of weight. I'm not going to lie, my MAIN reason for becoming vegan is my love of animals. When I see how much animals have & are suffering, it turns my stomach & I lose my appetite for eating animals and/or animal products, but again I need guidance on what (vegan) foods will be good for me. Thank you.🐾💖

Thanks for sharing a review of "The Vegetarian Myth" - I was hoping to find a good one. Would you be willing to do your own video about that book? It thought it was so weird that I started wanting iced beverages before I realized it was a symptom of iron deficiency. I generally dislike like super cold or iced beverages. I started craving tomatoes, too. It makes me feel better to know that you had problems with iron on a vegan and omnivorous diet; I felt very disappointed and nervous when that happened to me a few months after going vegan. I started to feel doubt and look for information from various sources, even trying some animal products sparingly. It was actually a great point of discovery in my life, and I still listened opposing views. But I still returned to veganism, and it's been almost two years!

I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I am still curious about it. I almost didn't watch this video, because of the first couple of things you said, one of them being about tweaking our way of thinking in order to feel okay about eating meat. That would have been a shame because I actually really liked your video and I got curious about those dieticians you named. My point is: if your goal is still to give information to the curious then keep it at that and don't make this about being "right" or "morally better". It turns people off while they initially wanted to hear you. Thanks anyway and I am going to find out about your tips
