Oh those desert winds. Awesome job capturing it. Felt like we were back out there in the van. So awesome all the mining relics still there and not destroyed/stolen by visitors. Mining out in the desert like that had to be so grueling. Really admirable. Great vid, guys! Glad you could safely go inside.

AWESOME!! You guys are simply blessed with often being in the right places at the right time. So sorry about the lake tho. Dave, you are braver than I am. You wouldn't get me in a mine shaft 😄. And I don't like heights either!! Loved the cabin. That is SO cool. Happy and safe travels!! 🥰🌿♥️

What an adventure! You never know what you will find out in Death Valley. I'm so so sorry you missed your paddleboard opportunity Carrie, but that rainbow was truly rare and amazing! My Dad spent days and days over many years exploring and researching Death Valley with an older friend who was a historical expert. Dad wrote and published a book about one of the first parties to cross Death Valley and the route they took. You would have loved exploring with them Dave!

Just love this whole area. You came across one of the infamous adopt-a-cabins. Where a group of volunteers restore and maintain old miners cabins. They’re great to explore and as you say, they can save your life. Sorry that you weren’t able to kayak Carrie. That wind storm looked nasty.

Like you, Dave, I love exploring the mines, and like you, Carrie, I love paddling in stunning spots. I was literally out paddling on Manly the evening of March 4 when they shut it down. I'm going to call it a case of beurocratic delay... the water that blew north with the storm seemed to mostly come back after, but they'd already made the decision. I carried my kayak about 150 yards from the road, and was in and paddling about 20' from the shore, and had from 1-2.5' of water after I made it out more than 50 yards. I'm really sorry it didn't work out for you, and hope you get another crack at it.

I was just watched and enjoyed your last video on Death Valley National Park. I saw how much you both enjoyed the mines in that area. I hope that you are still in that area because there is a mining town north west of where you were called Cerro Gordo Ghost Town owned by Brent Underwood. He purchased the mining town four years ago and is actively restoring it. You can visit the town but there is a eight mile rough road up to the town. He also just wrote a fascinating book “Ghost Town Living” check it out you guys will just live him and the towns history! Let me know your thoughts…🤩

I believe that building is what is known as a Volunteer Cabin (other content creators such as Wonder Hussey often). They're basically abandoned mining cabins in vacation homes in remote areas seemingly mostly in California and Nevada that can be temporarily occupied on a First Come, First Serve basis if you hoist up a flag declaring occupancy. Detroit you have KZfaqrs broadcast locations of these cabins to avoid vandalism squatters in the like.

The mines are cool. You’re not too deep, should be ok 😂. That is cool though. I wonder if I could get back that far, except for that last hill. I do want a front locker still. May have to work on that 🤔 I sure hope I can get to places like that, they look great to camp at for a couple nights 👍🏼 Sorry you didn’t get to Kayak that 😢. Hopefully another time. It’s ridiculous how someone with a GoPro or IPhone can’t video in our own land because they get a few bucks for it. Sooooo much government overreach 😠

When I saw your tease I thought you might have had more luck than I did. I passed through DV the end of January but didn't have my kayak with me. I kept being delayed being able to return and finally made it back 3/5/24. They had closed Lake Manley on 3/4. Maybe next year. Still lots of other interesting things there. There is dispersed camping inside the park, mostly pretty far away from Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells mostly on sandy roads. About 8 miles SE of Furnace Creek off Dante's Point Rd is Greenwater Valley (Furnace Creek Wash) Road. You need to get a free permit for it at the visitor center but it is nice and close.

The ruling around filming in the parks is asinine. Stills are OK, but filming is not. How many stills per second can I take before it becomes filming? I believe the court said it wasn't protected as free speech because there is a delay between filming and viewing. Most live radio and TV broadcasts use a 7 second delay so they aren't "live" either. Hopefully the SCOTUS takes the case and overturns the ruling.

What is your favorite weather app? 20+ miles of rainbow scenery is pretty sweet! I'm currently reading Timothy Egan's book "The Worst Hard Time" about the Dust Bowl of the '30s. Imagine the wind you experienced non stop for 30 days with limited visibility. And then for 3-4 years.

Hello, I very much enjoy your videos. I've been going back and watching what you filmed in WA state as that is where home is. I'm taking delivery of my new camper van in two weeks! In some of your videos I see that you have a rug/tarp/groundcloth right outside the door of the van. I was wondering what you are using. I've had little luck searching for something that is robust and yet van "packable" (i.e. packs small and lightweight). What do you use? Any suggestions? Thanks!

THANK YOU FOR CHECKING OIT OUR CHANNEL! We have had this woven mat since 2019…. It has really held up well and does pack up small. The one we have is 4X6 and just big enough for the door. If I buy another I would buy the 5X8 size. I wanted to add it is reversible and woven recycled plastic so it does not absorb water. amzn.to/3vV1S68

A response from NPS to a youtuber who apply for a permit at several parks, a lot of nothing, granted this was in of spring '23, so for the price of a stamp and filling out the form correctly you can get an answer. Dear __________, We have received your application for a Special Use Permit for Commercial Filming/Still Photography at _________ National Park. Based upon the description of the activities provided in your permit application, it does not appear that they would constitute commercial filming under federal law. As a result, you are not required to obtain a special use permit for commercial filming or pay associated fees. You are responsible for securing any necessary permissions or releases if you will be filming other people in the park. In addition, all filmers must comply with regulations that apply in the park, just like other visitors. Thank you for your interest in visiting _________ National Park. We hope you enjoy your time in the park.
