When Katie became a single mother following an unplanned pregnancy, she couldn’t have imagined the impact her unplanned pregnancy and adoption story would have on her faith and others’. She allowed a family to adopt her infant daughter-a choice that was made with pure love in her heart. Her experience is a reminder that such love is available to everyone only through the grace of Jesus Christ.
“Through [His grace] I have been able to forgive myself of my mistakes and be happy now and really have hope for my future and for the future of my little girl,” Katie says. “It’s incredible.” Katie signed away her parental rights on Christmas Eve morning. She was faced with the trial of a lifetime, but she found strength through prayer and faith.
“You can either become bitter or you can become better through God.”

I cannot imagine the difficulty in making this decision, but I truly believe this woman showed one of unselfish love for her daughter. She wanted her daughter to have the best life possible and knew she was unable to provide that for her. It's not a matter of NOT LOVING her daughter, it is a matter of LOVING HER MORE THAN SELF. It's truly one of the most unselfish gifts a mother in such circumstances can give. I applaud her for this. I pray she will find happiness for herself.

I was adopted through LDS Family Services over twenty-years ago. For my adoptive family, it was such a great blessing to finally have a child. They waited over ten years after starting the initial paperwork. I was fortunate to have been able to connect with birth mom after I reached adulthood. I'm grateful for the sacrifice she made so that I could be with a family that was in a better situation at the time. And my family is grateful that they received an answer to their prayers.

I raised 2 kids by myself after having my first at 17. I'm so blessed to have my children. And they have grown strong through God's grace, but I know that they deserved much more than I could give them. They suffered from not having a father or being a part of a strong 2 parent home. Adoption is the most selfless thing a woman can do. Bless you for your choice.

I don't think this is the action I would have taken. However, this video has helped me to understand that God's will is unfathomable to us, and his plan is special for everyone. He ministers to each of us according to our ways and understanding. We must always be open to other perspectives without cruel judgement.

I am 12, and I watched this to know what women with out-of-marriage pregnancies thought and did. This was very moving and I felt like I could kind of relate because I'm starting to sort of doubts of the rules of the church, but they're just the ones involving dating, and I'm pretty sure I've now learned the importance of those rules, so thank you Mormon Channel!

Thank you to who ever puts these precious Priceless Messages of Hope Forgiveness and Pure Christ like Love. I fell away for many years from the church because I felt unworthy, unloved. My trials began to make me *Bitter Not *Better. Until something tragic and know to understand and feel of my Heavenly Father's Pure love For me . These messages of hope have been what has brought me back to the light. I am truly greatfull to have come upon these in some of my Darkest Days it has been my Reminder that this pain is only temporary and instilled a sense of Hope and Peace again. Thank you to everyone who helps create these special reminders that were all children of God. And Bless this sweet Sister for Helping remind me of this yet again. God Bless y'all. 😇 💕 💖

Katie, I don't know your circumstances, I can only comment from my own experience. My girlfriend and I met and began dating in college. We got pregnant about 7 months later and I can't tell you how awful I felt; like I had committed the worst possible sin and it was all my fault. I wanted to do whatever I could to make things work, but she said we were just a big mistake. To this day, this was the hardest thing I've gone through in my entire life, as I'm sure it was for her too. I hope that if we learn from our mistakes, we are forgiven of them.

Our heavenly father loves us so much that He gives us chances to correct our mistakes..i hope i could be as brave as this sister--being selfless and become better not bitter..i sometimes lose hope of the promised blessing that the Lord gave me in my patriarchal blessing..been waiting for so long to achieve the ultimate goal i have in my life..but sad to say, still it hasn't come..i'm thinking sometimes that i am being chastised because of the wrong choices i made in the past..after watching this video, i am encouraged to face my future with great faith in the Lord..like her, i will be more selfless and become better even the best i can☺

Why did I decide to watch this? :'( I am not her, nor know her situation, so have no idea what it would have been like to make such a choice and am I glad she found peace in her decision, but I can't see why her 'big' family and her couldn't have made it work? Sure, it would be tough, but later on maybe she would have found someone worthy for her and her little girl? I hope she keeps in touch with the family who are raising her daughter because one day, this little girl will want some questions answered. Much love xx

+Andali That was my first reaction, as well. I wonder if she felt that it would be a lot harder to find a husband if she came with a baby. I hope that isn't the reason though, and I hope it really was selfless and for the benefit of the baby and the adoptive parents. Regardless, what a wonderful gift for the adoptive parents.

@@PabloTheGreat1 yes, she could have kept the baby, but at what cost to the baby? My husband and I adopted our 2 children. We are so grateful to the two women who made the decision to place their baby for adoption. Without the choice they made, we would have never been able to become parents. We know they each loved their baby dearly. What a sacrifice for them.

Did some of you miss the whole "prayed for guidance" part of the video? Before condemning or criticizing her or her family for this, understand that this girl did not make the decision lightly nor did her family (based on her comments) refuse to accept her or the baby. She prayerfully made the decision to give her daughter the best family she could and as a result blessed not only her baby girl but also the family who had been praying for the privilege of having a child.

Thank you for your testimony but with all due respect and this is my personal opinion I feel that there would have been no problem with you keeping your baby girl because she would have been loved with that big family. Having a child of yours planned or even unplanned is such a blessing looking at hem and I’m sure that little girl would have loved to be with your family no matter what. That’s just my opinion and being a father I respect your bravery but I just feel you could have been with her.

This is incredible! It's so amazing for me that God cares about everyone despite their situation or choices. I didn't pass through the same thing. I actually don't have any children so far, but I have now more empathy for people who have had an unplanned baby and I know that my Savior is their Savior too.

@RIMARISA

She decided to give her baby for adoption because she wanted for her baby to have both: a mother and a father. Even if she had a family of her own that I am pretty sure would have helped her if her decision would have been to keep her baby instead of giving her up for adoption, they would have been grandparents, uncles and aunts, not a father. If you don't understand her decision, it is ok, but don't judge her because you can't understand her. She loves her baby very much, at least respect her love.

It’s really sad and disappointing to see that a healthy middle class family like hers wouldn’t keep their baby. Looks like a very selfish thing to do (I am based on the story as far as shown in this video). But I’m glad that the kid is with a much better family now. I don’t understand the point of the video. Is the church encouraging young mothers to give away their babies just because they think they can’t handle the feelings of guilty for having sex before marriage? Or is the church just showing that God will forgive you even if you leave your own baby? ...seriously, the Church should be more straight forward when showing stuff like that. (whoever manages this channel, I really would like to know the answer)

Allan Machado I question it as well. I believe this is showing how we as humans make mistakes and Heavenly Father loves as and knows we will make these mistakes. She had sex before marriage which made her have a baby. I do believe Heavenly Father didn’t want her to give it up but I also believe that he still is happy that two of his beloved children can be happy and have a good life. Those are just my thoughts I hope this helped. Come visit the church if your not a member we would love you there.

Hi, I would like to answer your questions and I hope this answer would give you the enlightenment you needed. In our church Family is the most important thing in the world. Babies and young children are very special to us too. We do everything for the young children to grow up in the right way with father and mother guiding them through the light of christ. Yes they are middle class family and can afford to raise the child but it's not about that. By adopting the baby, shes giving herself and the baby a chance to have the great things in life. Her baby being adopted to Lds, middle class and loving family is a good opportunity because she will be loved and cared there with Mother and Father. She will grow up having a mother and father knowing the true essence of what a family is. The young woman also will have a chance to start again, finish her college and build a God-centered family with the right man who will marry her in the temple. If she kept the baby, the baby will grow up without feeling of having a (father) family. We all know that a family is consist of father and mother. Also, the woman wasn't ready to be a mother, she was too young so in order to save them both from the struggle coming in their way, she chose what she did and it was the most beautiful and heart breaking sacrifice a Mom can ever do for her child.

@Allan Machado, thank you for your question, and we apologize for the slow response. We encourage you or others with questions on this topic to review the Church's topic page on "Unwed Pregnancy," linked below. Every individual’s situation is different, so the answer for one person may not work for another. Individuals facing this decision are encouraged to seek guidance through prayer and to counsel with their parents, bishop, medical provider, and other trusted individuals. We believe Heavenly Father loves all of His children and shows mercy to each one regardless of their circumstances. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/unwed-pregnancy?lang=eng We hope that helps!
