A MUST DO day trip from Madrid has to be Segovia. Only a 30min train ride from the capital, this city has all the essential Spanish elements. History, food and character.
In this episode, we visit the huge Roman Aqueduct. Tour around the Alcazar castle. And try the famous dish, Suckling Pig.

I thik it´s unbelievable that such a construction as the Aqueduct has remained almost unspoilt after so many things have happened in Spain throughout the centuries. It is really a gem.

Totally agree! So many different wars and battles and yet its perfectly intact. It shows that thoughout the centuries, such a structure was still respected and valued.

Some people in Spain believe that if you step on a dog poo you'll be lucky! Trivia: the stones of the Aqueduct do not have cement or mortar to fix them. So, it is just made out of stones! The Alcazar is supposed to be the inspiration for Disney's Snow White Castle.

No cranes? Of course 2000 years ago Romans had cranes!!! The Roman Empire engineering is impressive, they even had these aqueducts to bring down whole mountains with water in order to extract gold ore from northern spanish mountains in current Palencia and Leon regions! Aloha again Matt & Ash! We had already planned a day trip to Segovia before I saw your video but that just confirmed it was a great decision. I did plan to spend the entire day there since it seemed it would take a full day to take sufficient time, without rushing, to tour the cathedral and castle and their towers as well as see the town and aqueduct and, of course, eat cochinillo. Can it really all be done in half a day? Mahalo! You guys are so cute!

Yes and NO, don't come here for the Roman influence, as a pro photographer, the streets leading up to the Cathedral are better, BUT early, before all the tour groups from Madrid arrive, also, do it mid-week, NOT on weekends, I chase the light shards, and this works well before 9:30, as a street photographer I want minimalism, not hoards of amplified tour guides telling you what to look at, also, stay in the old city, not the cheaper fringe hotels near the Roman stuff....and if it showers or rains, MAGIC....! I'm always surprised with the amount of dog crap that just lies in the street ALL over Europe. Every country I went to there was just dog shit everywhere. Paris and Vienna were by far the worst. It felt like every corner I'd go passed, there was fresh dog turd that no one bothered to pick up. Even on the beach in the Netherlands... dog shit on the sand! WHY?!?!?!
