This is the first movement of a 3-movement work, but I am considering dropping the other two and having the entire work be this 6-minute duet.
The piece begins with a galloping minimalist idea relying on instinct instead of a process. Out of it is revealed a bluesy subject in two parts followed by a brief modal jazz moment that dips and then reaches a first brief climax. Out of the dust, the beginning idea returns but develops differently, resulting in an eerie combination of ostinato, harmonics and glissandi. A descending scale in the cello leads to a darker soundscape that seemingly leads to an unknown inevitability. This produces a lighter section which chances direction towards the last climax of the piece before sprinting into the distance.
