OMG. I remember playing this when I was like 12 years old for the first time. This level was the best in the game. My hands were shaking so hard when playing it. Fast forward 20 years later and I make games for a living and this level is one of the reasons. Thank you for sharing my friend! :)

Why are people getting so offended from feedback? This is an amazing project, awesome, but every project has its flaws that need to be worked out. And if you aren't aware of those flaws, it's really nice when someone points it out. But then you get jumped on... Guys, the path to success is paved with failure. There are some mistakes in this video. Does it make it any less cool? No. Does it mean it could be even cooler! Yes. Don't you want an even cooler project? Because, that takes feedback.

Nintendo should remake 64 with a camera that actually works

Cool! I do have some suggestions as an Unreal Engine 4 Level Designer myself. 1: It's important to know which material types should be curved and in which ways. I would recommend keeping the relatively hard-edged lines of the stone path (0:36). If you want some realistic stone definition, try making individual stone block pieces and having them jut out from the main structure. 2: Think about how elements interact with each other. If it's raining, should there be fire there? If there is, it might have more smoke than it currently does. 3: Don't be afraid to deviate a bit from realism. At 0:24, the thing which shoots fire would, I think, be cooler if it didn't have that tube coming out of the mouth. You could just have a face with no jaw, and then have the jaw as a separate object, and the jaw could lower before the fire comes out, and raise back up after it comes out. If you're really ambitious, you could even have a mouth glow when the mouth is open. 4: Using a grid is really important to make something feel professional. You don't always have to use it, but certain elements need to be regularly spaced (such as the side-to-side spacing of the coins at 0:27 or the little bridge pillar thing at 0:20). I feel like everyone goes through a phase of eyeballing things, or even of intentionally avoiding the grid to get a more organic look (the coins do look intentionally serpentine) but with experience you'll be able to achieve the same effect while keeping gameplay smooth & intuitive (ie: serpentine pattern on the stone, coins all in a line) Hopefully you see this and hopefully this is helpful. You've done a good job so far -- even after the first five years I probably wouldn't have been able to make something like this. As you continue to explore level design, though, you'll continue to get better and better :D All the best!

Seems like Mario's been turned into a minish. Jokes apart, wonderful work, really well done, just the world seems too much big, and everything seems more like a movie and less playable/arcade, don't know how to explain ahah, I'm sure this can be improved, it has potential. Edit. The camera also needs to be revisited a little. Seems a bit uncomfortable.

If that's what the level looks like in this remake, I can't wait to see how the Bowser boss fight will look. Imagine the lighting effects when he breathes fire, or when the mines explode...mmm.... From what I can see, the camera seems pretty sensitive, which might be a problem. Also, those textures should be worked on - if you're gonna make a graphically enhanced remake with modern-looking models and such, why not go all out? But it looks real nice, and given what the aim here appears to be that's gotta mean you did something right.

This video is 6 years old, and we still have yet to see Nintendo release anything close to approaching this level of graphical fidelity. I have a feeling that the Switch 2 won't change that either.

I love the visual effects, but some parts of the level feel rushed, although most of it looks wonderful. The only thing I DIDN't like was the goomba's clunky looking AI, and the coins didn't feel nice too. If you made the coins 3D like in regular mario games, plus made the goombas more goomba like, that would do the trick for me. Making things like this takes a lot of time and I applaud you for that.

This better be what this year's mario movie looks like.

On the bright side, this definitely looks a lot better than the other instances of people shouting "NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN!"

Beautiful job, it looks amazing. But, I have a couple of critiques about this that I feel would make the experience much better if they were adjusted. Mario is pretty small compared to his Mario 64 self, so it looks like you boosted his run speed and jump height, which makes his animations seem unnatural. The camera is angled in a way where it isn't as cinematic as Mario 64's. I feel like it's closer to Mario, so it makes it more like the Mario-Cam than the Lakitu-Cam. edit: i just noticed that the way the camera follows Mario kind of makes it lag behind him in some spots, which looks pretty badass but i dont think it would be very good for tight gameplay.

Man, I’d definitely buy this remake if possible. 64 is by far my favorite Mario Game of all time. I must admit that the camera looks a little bit uncomfortable, but that’s nothing to really worry about.
