Hey Klaus! And thank you for your great content! I have a problem thou, I have done the material blending like in this video, but how do I add other materials in the same material graph? Now I have only the grass/moss floor but of course, I would need other materials as well when I proceed to build the landscape. I'm pretty new to UE. Thank you in advance!
@CrowBiomes
@CrowBiomes Жыл бұрын
In the layer blend node, add layers for each material you want, then copy the grass and replace the textures. Usually you'd also want to adjust a few other things but generally that's the way to do it for each layer.

Also at 26:42 no idea where you got this splatmap from... Maybe you can also post a download link for that one?

Well Klaus thank you. I am not a beginner with Unreal and I have my own way of getting rid of tiling. But it is always nice to see another way done by someone else. The way you do it is very interesting. A lot of guys use those bombing nodes but I never liked how those looked when finished. I work on Unreal 5.2 and have been since it came out. But I started way back with the 4.0 series. There is not much I can't do and understand what another person is trying to do when watching them. Of course you did this class over a year ago and 5.2 was not out then. A few of the things you did just would not work with 5.2, but since I had enough experience to see what you were wanting to do, I was able to compensate with various nodes in 5.2 to get the same look you were going for and it looks very good. I was a bit surprised considering how you got rid of the tiling. But you did. What really got my attention is watching you add an extra texture to the original sample. I have tried that quite a few times but never was able to get the outcome I wanted until watching you do it. I was hoping you had a fix for texture stretching on mountains and things like that. That is something I have been looking out for. I have tried a lot of things but hard to get a good look. Even scaling does not stop them from stretching. With that said, I am very pleased with what I was able to learn from your video. It is not often someone teaches me something new with Unreal. Thank you very much.
@CrowBiomes
@CrowBiomes 11 ай бұрын
Glad to see you got it working in 5.2. For texture stretching, what you might be looking for is triplanar mapping. It will project the textures in world space instead of stretching it with the triangles.

Hey, amazing tutorial! However, at around 25:45 you use an alpha texture and say it's supposed to cover the whole terrain, but for me it covers each 2x2 and repeats from there. So the result is pretty crazy :D. Anyone have a tip to solve this?
@CrowBiomes
@CrowBiomes Жыл бұрын
It's the UVs, You are tiling that texture with UVs. If you connect it directly to the landscape layer coordinate which has proper scaling, then it will cover the whole terrain

hey i had a hard time understanding from 2.52 and i was kind of putting it otgather but when u put in the 1-x u totaly lost me can u give me a more detaild explanation of what is 1-x and y u used it and what u where doing in this process it will be much appriciated accept for that amasing tutorial so far
@CrowBiomes
@CrowBiomes Жыл бұрын
2:52 is where we multiply a value to our landscape layer coords which introduces tiling, We are essentially scaling the UVs at this point. As for the 1-x, It will subtract input value from 1. If a variable is between 0-1 and we subtract it from 1, We get the other half of the value. (for 0.3, 1-0.3 = 0.7) In case of Distance blending, We were getting the distance close to the camera. 1-x will turn it to the value close to our target on the other side of our line. 20:12 is where you can see the line.

My man sorry for point that out but using that specific simple material blend function u will not be blending most of the textures. It's best to use the normal material blend since the function you used doesnt blend normal maps and other important maps that you are using. In your very example you will be ending up with your base material normal all over the landscape since it never got blent. Also it would have been nice multiplying the blue channel of the ARD map with the noise to get more realistic results. Keep up the good work man, loved you.
@chandlerfrantz3140
@chandlerfrantz3140 Жыл бұрын
How do you suggest going about that? Because when I multiply the G channel of the ORDp (not ARD, I know), I end up with the base normal over everything again. Should I be doing a Lerp -> Mult rather than a Mult -> Mult? EDIT: A Mult + Mult -> Add setup gets close, but messes with the contrast such that the base material can barely come through, so my question remains.

At 36:20 I have an error on the Blend Overlay function when I link it to the SetMaterialsAttributes it says "[SM5] Function Blend_Overlay: Cannot cast from smaller type float2 to larger type float3." I attempted some fixes, but no luck so far. Tried changing some parts of the overlay function to be a V2 instead of V3 but that breaks the SetMaterialsAttributes function because also works on V3 and so it makes the same error appear.
