In this Unreal Engine 5 tutorial we'll get to creation of the landscape material using the heightmap from episode 1 and weightmaps from episode 2. I'll show the whole process, including importing the textures, setting up the master layer function, individual layers, wetness and colorization functions. I will also show the process of creating auto material for the case where there are no premade weightmaps. I will aslo touch the subject of correctly applying the image as the base texture of the landscape.
You can download the heightmap and weightmaps I used for this project for free from my Gumroad:
tinyredkite.gumroad.com/l/lid...
Or you can download the landscape with materials from Unreal Marketplace: www.unrealengine.com/marketpl...
Part 1: Heightmap is here: • Houdini Tutorial - Lid...
Part 2: Weightmaps is here: • Houdini Tutorial - Lid...

You can download the heightmap and weightmaps I used for this project for free: tinyredkite.gumroad.com/l/lidardata Or you can download the landscape with material from the Unreal Marketplace: www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/ca3460d7309940cdaf594dd6d02ca83c In the video I complained about Unreal's "Blend Overlay" function and replaced it with simple Multiply. But Overlay can be easily recreated: multiply the overlayed layer by 2 and then multiply it with the base layer, then saturate. More on the topic in this awesome tutorial: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJyjZ8uXvqelh58.htmlsi=f7AZn75ZliBSFVbV&t=3181

Thanks for all the hard work in this series, really impressive. Just a side note, could you raise your recording levels up, its difficult to hear you, I'm having to raise/double my volume.

@TC-1207 Thank you for your kind words! As to the volume, could you please confirm that you have the level in this particular youtube tab to max? I compared it with other tabs I have open, and I didn't have to change the volume at all, and my headphones are on 58%. But I definitely will raise the recording level, microphone is far from maximum. I also speak much louder later in the process, while I'm getting less shy and more excited )))))

@@tinyredkiteSounds like it might be my laptop causing issues, I noticed that other videos (not all) are fairly low as well. I am re-watching this now on my desktop and it is louder but it is lower than other videos but not terrible. I am wondering if KZfaq is adjusting audio levels during uploads, just a thought. Thanks again for all your hard work, keep it up 👍

@TC-1207 Thank you very much for double checking it! And for appreciation of the work I do. I rechecked the volume on KZfaq and actuial video, it's the same. I think that the biggest problem is me - in the beginning I'm very stressed and speaking very quiet. Wait till I become more comfortable and start yellling further in the video, it's like twice louder. I will work on it and will definitely raise the microphone sound for the future recordings!

Very nice. How do we add real world data like tree placement.. roads .. etc .. I’d like to create a digital twin neighborhood.. and it’s a pain. Especially the homes. Have to create that in blender and import into unreal.

Thanks for the tutorial! I met a problem, I followed your steps and created the material instance, in its parameter table I can't see each layers' parameters,,which should be divided with layers' name, but all layers' parameters in some global parameter goups, do you know how to fix it?
@tinyredkite
@tinyredkite Ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment! If you look at 16:12 (where I show the setup for grass layer), you'll see that each parameter has "Grass" in the name, and also in the bottom left in the layers details you'll see a dropdown with group named "Grass". I didn't emphasize that in the tutorial, but this is how you group the parameters. Simply click on the dropdown and type the name. Then select all the other parameters that should go into same group and select the one you've created from the list. I hope this helped! If not, please let me know, and we'll try to get if fixed for you.

Can we add new layer in this material?
@tinyredkite
@tinyredkite 3 ай бұрын
Yes, of course. You can do it the same way I add the current layers to the material in the video. Select layer blend node (the one where all the existing layers are going to), and press plus on the left. You'd prodably want to make it height blend. As the the actual new layer, I guess, the fastest way is to just copy existing one (e.g. grass for standard and gravel for world aligned), replace the textures, rename the parameters and then add it to the blend. Please mind that after that you'll need to go to the landscape mode in the editor, add a new layer asset (weight blend), and paint on the landscape manually or load a weight blend map. You might want to reference the video, I explain all these steps in the beginning. Please also note that sometimes the landscape mode is stubborn and doesn't show changes right away. In this case try to reopen the editor, or reassing the material on the landscape in the editor and so on. By your question I assume that you didn't have much experience with landscape materials before. You might still want to watch the part of the video where I assign material to the landscape and do all the manipulations there. In any case, I hope it works out for you. The last thing: I will not have internet connection at all for a week, starting tonight, so I will not be able to answer the questions. But everything is in the video.

Yes, that's the point. It works like any asset pack. It will ask you to choose your project to add assets to. Then you'll see a new folder with everything

Please make a tutorial how to make water puddles layer pleeease and and it this material
@tinyredkite
@tinyredkite 3 ай бұрын
You can use any other puddle tutorial to use with this material, because puddles go as overlay. I personally used this one (youtube.com/@LukasKoelz?si=E90oCUHiFVzFFZDf) in totally different project for ue4, but it did work as well in ue5. There is also a tutorial by Ben Cloward. I didn't do it personally, but Ben is always a good choise.

@tolispiperas6322 While I believe in sharing knowledge for free, I don't believe in working for free. This tutorial explains in details how to recreate the material. On the other hand, if you don't have enough time, I guess I can try to upload the scene to the Unreal Marketplace (or Gumroad).

@tolispiperas6322 I'll see what I can do. It's not going to be very fast though, because Marketplace takes some time to review the upload (and they might not approve it). I'll keep you posted.
