These cousins are suing each other over a car that they don't legally own. Do you obey all your state's laws for car ownership, or is it too much hassle?

I have dealt with many vehicles that were owned by county, local, and state police as well as public school buses and they were all insured. Where do you get your information?
@sherrik46207 жыл бұрын
Wrong government cars and many large corporations are self insured through their companies.
@freedomforall98797 жыл бұрын
Not through a private company. lol
@sherrik46207 жыл бұрын
No not through a private insurance company. They are self insured. A large corporation can self insure by proving that they make enough money to cover someone if they get in an accident. If you are rich enough or have a business that makes enough money you can sign a waver to be self insured. Self insured means your company makes enough money to cover anyone they cause damage to.

The car is SALVAGED!!! It's not worth what Kelly blue book says which I think is absolutely hilarious. For those who do t know what a salvaged titles is: it's as follows. A car that has been damaged and totaled out by the insurance company. A salvaged car then has to go through salvaged inspection once it has been thoroughly fixed and needs documentation and picture proof. Once it passes( only if you are lucky and fixed the car right) will you get a RaeBUILT title for your car which tells you the car was totaled but has been fixed. Stupid people need to really research any car especially a used car! Cmon now people, your in college and supposed to be smart! Depending on the car, I wouldn't get into it. And I'm positive she payed way too much for it and will need to sink a pretty penny into it to get it to pass! Good luck! I personally buy and fix salvaged cars and it's not a fun trip to take!

It should be a criminal offence if a purchaser receives a title, but drives a vehicle for more than a few hours (just enough time to get the car home, or to the vehicle title registration center), without recording the change in ownership. I had 2 automobile purchasers that did not immediately record ownership. Effective this year, if I sell a car, I will remove the licence plates. When they record the title, they can get new plates. If they drive without plates, then they can pay their fines.

This how I would have decided this case. 1. Claim for the price of the car and being told it was worth more. Simple answer, the principle of caveat emptor 'buyer beware' applies therefore dismissed. 2. Any claim they bring against each other which relates to the car is instantly dismissed. As the aunt stated that you need to enter court with clean hand. This comes from the principle of equity. Equity in law will not recognise your rights and the court will not seek a remedy for people who have dirty hands. 3. The damage to the Aunts car is a separate claim and if she wishes to bring a claim she is welcome too. A very simple case.

There is a provision in law that states that people can work out civil issues in 'arbitration courts'. They basically sign a contract that says they agree to abide by the decision of the arbitrator. The Arbitrator usually has to have some sort of legal experience (lawyer, actual judge) but the decisions they come to are only legally binding due to the contract the two parties sign agreeing to abide by the decision. They usually base the decisions based on general legal principles, not specific state law. They're basically dispute resolution specialists with a contract that says the parties will abide by the resolution. That's all the power that the TV courts have.
@milesandemilyrock10 жыл бұрын
Sundevil22 I don't think you answered my question.
@sundevil225910 жыл бұрын
milesandemilyrock Yes I did. She's handling a TX case because state law isnt used as a basis for decision in arbitration courts. Also, I believe their transportation is paid for. So is lodging, as far as I know. This, plus a free binding decision is usually what entices people to go on these shows. Plus, some people, no matter how stupid, really want their 15 mins of fame.
@milesandemilyrock10 жыл бұрын
Sundevil22 OK, thank you!
@clayronso393210 жыл бұрын
Usually, depending on the show, you have to have a civil case pending in small claims court to appear on the show. Part of the agreement to appear on TV is that you drop your case in civil, being small claims, court.

Lol I live in Houston tons of buses
@KamiNoBaka18 жыл бұрын
Yes, tons of busses that are always late or break down on you and cost way too much to be taking every day. I'm in Park & Ride zone 3. Getting on a bus here would cost me $3.75 and the ticket doesn't transfer, and it usually takes one or two transfers to get anywhere I'd be going. Not to mention it's just as many transfers to get back. If I were to take the bus every day, I'd spend more than twice as much a month as I currently spend on gas. At that rate, it's more economically sound to finance the purchase of a used car, making the payments partially with the money not being spent on bus fare. Houston's public transportation sucks ass unless you live downtown.

I hate this about student loans. They give it to the most undeserving 'poor' or financially needy people, but the ones who come from 'money' get nothing. It's stupid. Every student loan should be zero or low interest, and none in the form of grants. It would solve a lot of finaid deficit.

I notice the judge sometimes has a hard time comprehending things. I've seen this in a couple other of her cases. "Why should she pay you? you got the car. -yah but the money was for school. -so why'd you buy a car?" She clearly explained that she bought it for her cousin because she needed a car but didn't have the money yet. So they agreed she would buy it and then the cousin would pay her back. She was helping her out. But she should have waited till the cousin got her license so they wouldn't have ended up in this mess. In a way the cousin kinda screwed her over cause now she doesn't want the car and ashley is now stuck with it. but I honestly don't like her so I don't really care. Lol Especially that smart ass remark she made at the end to her aunt.
