UNSC Military Branches & Ranks Explained | Halo Lore

In this video we dive into the fictional ranks of the United Nations Space Command or UNSC from the Halo Universe. After doing a little research and digging in to the lore of the UNSC I was quite surprised that there were different branches actually resembling that of the current United States Military. I also figured it would be worth it to explore these ranks because I get quite a few comments in my previous videos about the Space Force regarding Halo ranks and mostly mentioning Master Chief. @@antinoble6215 this is just my opinion but I think that there are a some army units in Halo CE remember halo CE takes place after halo reach so I’m pretty sure captain Keyes is not going to leave any army units or any service branch just to die in reach. But for the models in halo ce I kinda agree with the whole reusing old models.

Spartan IIs appear to adhere to the UNSC Navy rank structure, and considering their close relationship with ONI Section 3 that makes sense. Furthermore the Spartan IIIs were primarily divided into four companies, of which most held Navy ranks, such as Petty Officer. However, there was one notable exception, Noble Team, who were part of the UNSC Army Special Warfare Group Three, held Army ranks, such as Commander, Lieutenant Commander, Warrant Officer, and Lieutenant.

Commander, and Lieutenant Commander are not Army ranks, even in the UNSC. They'd have to be Navy, or they would be Colonels and Lt. Colonels.

In the lore Spartans listened to higher ups from all branches. In the fall of reach red team (made of Spartan 2s)was sent to reach to defend a orbital defense generator. A naval chief of operations sent a destress call saying they needed evac. Fred (Navy, sp2, LT jr grade)acknowledged and the chief told them to come to assist. Fred even said “they couldn’t jus disobey a direct order from a higher up and sent a strike team to retrieve them. That was on a ground op not in space or on a ship. Spartan Kurt (Navy,LT COM ,Spartan 2) was order by a army colonel to come with him to over view the Spartan 3 programme(orchestrated by ONI). He said that since he was a higher up rank then him he would tech still have to listen to him as long as it didn’t over ride his previous orders. And in halo reach noble 6 (spartan lll)was a LT, Carter (sp 3) was a commander, Emile (sp3) a warrant officer, Kat(sp3) a LT commander , jun(sp3) a warrant officer and jorge (sp 2) a chief warrant officer. All where officially navy but listened to a colonel until ONI switched commands over to dr Halsey (ONI) (Those r the most notable of the Spartans) it’s confusing at first but it’s cool 😂💯

Not really. Most combat was on the ground, so the army should be getting a lot of funding. The problem is the army was wiped out at Harvest, and the UNSC decided to never try and bring it back, which was stupid .

Shame we dont know much about the army and airforce. Marines, spartans, and odst's usualy the main focus of series. I love the odst's as they are my favorite in halo but i think we need see more of the army and airforce in the games.

A Spartan could have unreasonable expectations for a non-spartan unit. Imagine a seasoned Navy SEAL commanding a 18 man team of untrained 12 year olds to capture a base and you'll get the idea.

If Deemed necessary they can take full control of all command. But thats rare. John and Fred are probably the few that can totally take control.

The UNSC SPRTANs are all reinforced by titanium and neural reflex enhancements. It will be impposible to let other troops " interfere " the operations. Besides, The UNSC SPARTANs are specially designed for space warfare and eliminating the Covinents. They are the TACTICS itself.

US units literally had to train many Afghanis to fight the taliban, and yes those Afghanis would fight along with and be commanded by US servicemen. Many of the Afghanis lacked basic knowledge, for example, a lot of them were confused trying to do a basic jumping jack.

You sure Spartans are not apart of the more navy side considering master Chief is a spartan??? His title is Master Chief petty officer John 117, you talk of spartan commander and all that it reminds me of the modern day navy how we have ATTWO and watch commanders and things of the sort. Just my thoughts tho not saying you are wrong just how I always looked at it.

Master Chief is a part of the Spartan II program. The Spartan II program was under the jurisdiction of the Navy. Spartan branch which is made up of Spartan IV's came afterwards.

Spartans were originally part of the Navy. But once the Spartan IV program began they became their own branch. A bit like how the Space Force was part of the Air Force then became its own branch, or how Air Force was originally part of the Army.

spartans dont belong to the navy, they belong to ONI and halsey in particular, however NOBLE team was an exception, as they belonged to the unsc army special warfare group until their reassignment by ONI

Why don't the US military make helmets like in Halo? Having a HUD in the right corner of your helmet would probably prove pretty useful in combat.

Actually some fun facts about the UNSC Air Force is that many of their pilots and combat personnel are actually trained in boarding actions. Take this with a grain of salt because I read this in an article YEARS ago so my memory may be fuzzy; but in the Halo Reach Missions where you’re piloting the Sabre the other pilots are UNSC Air Force personnel and the pilots that board with you are also Air Force. Now for the crew that come on with Jorge I’ve read and heard from conflicting sources that they’re either Air Force or Army.

Actually, the space force of the United States is really supported by the allien space fleets. The space fleets make sure the security of sattellites and orbits, while the carrer of the space force is to supply the intelligence on surface and making sure the space special troops will be on target at time.

What always bothered me was seeing Captain Keyes rank on his uniform as a captain in the Marines/Army Officer rank structure. That Captain is an 0-3. It would have made a lot more sense to have his rank symbol as the Naval Officer Captain, which is what he was, and is an O-6. Silver bird instead of the 2 silver bars.

Let's have a theoretical discussion. What if DUNE is real on Mars. What do you think might be the inter solar politics between Eart and Mars? Maybe some day Earth seeks to expand and Mars society doesn't like or does like and seeks to pull Earth to elevated stabdards of living... Thats where possibly US SPACE FORCE MARINES/ SEALS / SF ect might be placed....I guess at first as clandestine missions to settle some base camps and recon squads, to evaluate what the others can do.

It will be year 2500. I would be very proud if the weakest unsc marine is as badass as 2000 best soldiers. It would be nice if there would be marine commandos(not odst). With different armor. And stealth marines. Or heavy marines. Or special ops. I would definitely play a halo game as a marine with squad members or solo

The UNSC uses the UNICOM Ranking structure for all planetary defense forces. Not the US Military ranks.

Well, in all fairness, the guy who made this is a civilian. The current U.S.M.C. has a sergeant major as a rank, and also sergeant major of the marine corps.

He said it is an officer rank. So Johnson is Major Gunnery Sargent which makes sense. He is the sargent but also he is from NCO or non commissioned officer which is why he holds the major title

He gets wrong there and I won't blame him. UNSC marine corps is used as a rapid advance invasion force, expedition army and ship security duites. Meanwhile, the army is used in longer ground combat, holding critical infrastructure, holding and securing long term enemy territory or planet and used as garrison force in friendly UNSC planets. So the army scope is very large. Like marines invade and capture areas and then the army comes for more long ground campaigns in enemy planets and securing and protecting critical areas while marine force do expedition missions.

What about Spartan Commander Sarah Palmer? She's in command of all Spartans aboard Infinity, presumably the Master Chief while he was onboard, but Del Rio called her Lieutenant.

It's more so that Master Chief holds a special rank that can be flexed in the right moment. Yes Commander palmar does out rank him but just like she said in halo 5...the chief does what he wants and she knows if she trys to contain that the others spartans will rally to him no matter if they are 2s of 4s

She is Spartan Commander. One rank below Director of Spartan Operations which is a General. Led by Musa-087, a Spartan 2
