Chronos (crowler) and judai duel was even more special because their first duel in s1 ep1 was crowler dueling not to let him enter the academy and the last one was him dueling to prevent him from leaving. Had a nice meaning behind it.

My favorite part of season 4 was how everyone simultaneously came to the realization that "Wow, we REALLY suck" and literally the only person who does anything about it is Manjoume.

Judai in S4 is a great representation for trauma survivors and the guilt that internalize on the regular. Aggressiveness, anxiety, withdrawal from friends, depression, all characteristics of someone who has endured extreme hardships. I was like this as are so many of my friends. It made him more relatable and its a shame most audiences in the West were deprived of a truly beautiful ending for this character instead of just leaving him to die in the dub.

So, maybe I'm missing something but, calling Manjoume Kaiser is incorrect the name Kaiser is what Ryo aka Zane is called.

I wish season 4 got dubbed... I feel like GX was a good change from DM - the first season is very goofy in stark contrast to DM which, while it had humor of course, always had a serious overarching plot. Having the first season mostly be regular kids getting into trouble was really nice and it feeds into the overarching story of growing up, where the early days are carefree and then boom. Season 3 happens. It's honestly really amazing that GX has a realistic approach to what a normal person would be like after all the crazy stuff that happens. Not to say that DM didn't show characters being scared, but GX takes it to the next level and humanizes it's protagonist which makes Jaden more relateable. He just wants to duel but now he is afraid of what will happen if he loses. Not to mention the part where he is confronted by a teacher telling him that because of his constant win streak people look up to him and he is a bad influence on them by not caring. This was also really interesting, especially since you can see both sides of the argument, Jaden is just a kid that doesn't want the responsibility, while the teacher wants him to grow up and see that he needs to be aware of the effect he has on others - this ties into his friends following after him to rescue Johan. The last season should have been a bit longer as you said but it's at least nice to see Jaden changing and maturing while also regaining what he lost, his passion for dueling. That hits really deep for a lot of people, losing something that brought you joy when you were younger. The worst part is probably Zane just showing up out of the blue, he had an awesome duel and then he's just back like it meant nothing smh.

Jaden's so-called friends are one of the reasons why Jaden has change, if they had listened to him; Maybe then he would not have been who he was in season 4

honestly i love the ending of season 4 for jaden. He doesnt magically get better and put the trauma from season 3 behind him, but he realized he can still enjoy and be hopeful in the future. He starts running in the desert now fully revitalized and is ready to slowly heal again.

I think they did a really good job with Jaden's character in season 4. Season 4 was basically his journey to find himself and his love for dueling again after Season 3. a lot of his close friends blamed him for ending up in the situation they were in during the duel with brron. Even if they were under some spell, those words still effected him and it shows how those words effected him with how his character changed. Jaden was trying to save Jesse and the thing is, Jaden would have done the same thing for any of them if they were in the same situation Jesse was in. His time at Duel Academy really affected him and made start to duel to survive instead of for fun like he used to.

The thing with Trueman is that they were literally absorbing the decks of everyone they defeated and their skills, so first they went for Judai twice in a row and then realized it wasn't gonna work and absorbed as many people as possible and THEN challenged Judai again (and lost because of course they did)

I personally love season 4 it is my favorite GX season especially because of Jaden I loved what they did with his character here. Jaden in the first 3 seasons was always super optimistic and was never phased by anything. In this season because all the bad events that happened in the past Jaden becomes a much more serious and also mature character which is a direction I didn't expect they would take with Jaden's character. He doesn't enjoy dueling anymore and only does it absolutely has to and when he does he tries to end the duel as quickly as possible. I thought this was so badass he was just OTKing people left and right. I also love the season long arc of Jaden slowly getting his love of dueling back and the last duel of the series against Yugi a great way to bring the series full circle because he bumped into Yugi in the very first episode. This season also has one of my favorite duels of all time Crowler vs Jaden it really showed how far both characters have come since the first duel. My only criticism wss the Chazz stuff I didn't really get what they were doing with Chazz this season.

Season 4 of gx is my favorite season of gx

I feel like the suddenness of needing to figure out the future and goals of season 4 could be from the traumatic events of season 3. I feel like people find purpose in big life changing events that will make you look at life and makes you take a hard look at life.

The other thing about Jaden’s development, not discussed here is that because of everything that happened in past seasons, he also loses his passion in dueling. This was pretty obvious in the duels themselves, because Jaden tries to win his duels as fast as possible. Even sacrificing Alexis cards to make sure their duel is won faster. The duels in this season also appear to be shorter too for that reason. It wasn’t until he duels Yugi that he gets his passion back.

GX Season 3 and 4 were definitely game changers. Season 4 fell a bit flat but it did what it did. The last year of Duel Academy Island for Jaden and company. Set up their future after 3 years from Arrival to the Sacred Beasts, Society of Light cult, to Yubel, to Graduation. It wasn't a bad thing to watch GX. I had a good time with the world building on a small Island owned by Kaiba Corp.

1. I heard a rumor that the voice actors for GX are up for dubbing season 4 if given the opportunity and 2. I read a hilarious fanfiction where that fiancee thing between Alexis and Jaden is finally resolved completely

Best part on Season 4 was the Shipping Duelling tournament in te Middle part of the season..Though it never amount to anything in te long Run..But SAME happened in 5D`s end but eh. What I love about season 4 is how it made me rethink on the character of Syrus. At first I hated Syrus because I didn't like his roids deck, the cars with eyes was just dumb, and to make it worse....(spoilers) ...zane then gives him the cyberdark cards, which Syrus mixes with his roids deck to make a hybrid deck 🤦‍♂️ But now that I think about it Cyrus was the only one who had some what of development, even though it was shaky at best. 😅 We saw him from Slifer red to raw yellow, and then go to Obelisk blue. Which lastly leads to the battle with Syrus vs Makoto Where then main legend himself Zane saying that Syrus now surpasses him now🤯 🤔now looking back on it, Syrus was the underdog of this story/ the unnoticed M-C

At first I hate the fact that some underclassmen like Kenzan(Hasselberry) and Rei Saotome are not polished until the series ends. But then I realized that they are still young, their story hasn't started yet because gx is just their story's prologue. I think even though the whole series focus on Jaden, the side characters began their character development the moment they dueled with Jaden. It's not that they are not polished, it is that their character development is still not finish. Even the side characters that only showed up in one episode have learned and changed after they duel Jaden, heck even that monkey he dueled got changed and got a mini character development. That's why when side characters that dueled Jaden starts to have fun on the duel with Jaden, I suddenly want them to win and for Jaden to lose.

Because it wasn’t dubbed, to my perception, Jaden died, most of the students made it back alright, and Zane died. I was really mad. I knew there was no way it ended there since the duel between yugi and jaden existed, but there was no way I could watch it and find out what happened. At least now I have some closure. Really sad though.

4kids butchered the hell out of the shows narrative so i myself am more biased towards the original dialogue. Especially season 3, Yubel didn't deserve the 4kids treatment. My main issue with season 4 is that it's short and the end of the series. I know the dub season 4 meme but I just want a season 5. I'd love to watch Judai, Yubel, Pharaoh, and Professor Daitokuji adventuring through the spirit world and helping fix things up while occasionally popping back around to see the homies. Asuka was a character of great potential that got relegated to forever being a useless damsel in distress. Felt pretty bad for her by the end as well for falling in love with Judai. Wasn't until the climax of season 3 that we realize none of them ever had a chance when Judai remembers his promise of eternal love to Yubel. Thanks for the vid mate! I'd just like to say that it was for the best that Yugi vs Judai didnt get a conclusion imo. Well, not a conclusion in the traditional sense. It had more of a symbolic conclusion and also wrapped up the main message of gx. To me, at least, the story of gx was about losing your innocence and childhood trauma-- resulting in growing up faster than you should have and losing your ability to be a kid before you could even fully enjoy it. We see Judai at the beginning of the series as a carefree dude who just wants to duel for the fun of it, but soon, everyone around him begin to rely on him too heavily and they all keep getting in trouble expecting him to save them. Because of this, dueling started to become a means of battle instead of fun. We especially see this when Judai travels through dimensions to find Johan. His attitude about dueling had completely changed from where things started. This brings us back to the Yugi vs Judai duel. At the end of season 4, Judai's final arc is sort of a balancing one. He needed to realize that he didn't have to let go of the things that brought him joy and that it's okay to have fun sometimes. Yugi vs Judai was the ultimate duel to represent this. The king of games himself duels with Judai, and all we see are smiles-- just the way things used to be. The end of the duel was really beautiful in my opinion. It showed Judai not having a care in the world about winning or losing. There were no stakes and no one in need of saving. This is the ultimate closure if you ask me. Judai is ready to go off into the real world now after graduating high school, but he no longer has to be serious and responsible all the time. Sorry if this didn't make much sense. But please, I must have explained it poorly because gx is a beautiful story that deserves more recognition from the yugioh fandom. Also, Mr. T looks like a cenobite lol edit: I also reccomend looking up the dream theory about Yugi vs Judai. There's a video about it here on youtube. 9:21 The thing with Truman is their isn't just 1( or he can duplicate himself) while each version has a simular card " Dark Archetype" that's the only onscreen card they have in common. 2/3 Jaden Vs Truman duel Truman has Dark Archetype but in both they were used differently In their 1st duel Truman used a Darkworld deck( Rainbuex and Zorg the 1800 atk vanilla), and his second was a dragon deck with it's boss being Meteor Black Dragon, while his 3rd duel was another dragon deck but it's boss was 5 headed dragon. But after that we see truman using different decks in his duel against Axol( or O'brien) where he started with Dark Archetype but reveals Truman playing Violcanics while shape-shifting into his dad,and his duel against Hasolberry( I don't know Hasolberry subbed name unfortunately) where he used a Horus LV deck that belonged to an Obelisk blue that admired Jaden(or Judai), but those were the onscreen duels it isn't clear if he changes decks to counter the others on duel academy.

I agree with people who say the show got too dark in S3 and S4, but I kind of like that in the sense that it is all a metaphor about growing up. It's been done better by other media and I wish they established that theme earlier, but Jaden/Judi starts as a goofy kid who just wants to have fun but goes in and out of depressions, hits rock bottom, and eventually comes out of it mature and with a better sense of his identify and values he did not know he was looking for. The other characters do the same to lesser degrees, and I kind of like that from this show. Also, that was kind of my emotional trajectory going through college, just not as dramatic and with more essays. I guess I also went from enjoying writing, to hating writing, to enjoying it again, so that's kind of close too

I recently finished season 4 I wanted to watch it on my las school year and watch it all the way to graduation so it would feel like I've grown with the characters truly a good season to end off the series

It always made sense to me for Jaden to steamroll every duel from season 4. My man was a grown up, a near complete character, mature enough to give a helping hand to everyone around him on their path and whose only flaw was his inability to relax. He was always in survival mode due to the trauma and guilt of past seasons. But there were times where Jaden's loosened up a little, and it shows in his duel record. He was cornered by Chazz where he didn't take the duel too seriously because of the silly costume. (But also because Chazz decided to do something about the fact he sucked, as one other commenter put it) He was briefly pushed back when Jaden loosened up his expression a bit right after Crawler broke down in tears and gave his emotional speech He was dominated against Sartorius because Jaden did not have the will to fight against him Every other fights, you can see the expression on Jaden's face : He's still in survival mode and will do everything to end his duel quickly Only other times he's shown in difficulty are the ones when something catch him by surprise. And against Darkness, because you gotta struggle a bit against the Final Boss I suppose And against Yugi because, well, it's Yugi lmao (He lost even if it wasn't shown BTW. One quick look at the field and you see than Jaden literally has no options once Slifer was summoned) Sounds silly to talk about "going full power" and "giving his all" when it's a card game, but hey, it's an anime trope.

What possessed 4Kids to not dub last episode of season 3? I was traumatized as a kid seeing an ending where the main character died. I'm exaggerating a bit but I was miserable and disturbed and really disliked the GX series for a long time since it ended on such tragic, gut-wrenching note. I only changed my opinion years later when I learned online that there was a 4th season.

Season 4 was honestly my favorite season because nightshroud was my favorite character/entity (bakura is my second) Yusuke was a great character and i wish they made a clear deck because it was beautiful and I loved clear world when i was younger!

Thankfully Duel Links also revealed what happened to him after S3 and its pretty sad, guy retired from dueling because he couldnt get over the fact he failed to defeat the Supreme King

So for the 5d's video are you going to be talking about sub or dub because that one has quite a lot of censorship and cut episodes and scenes, with specific context for character motivation being changed.

They really should release the dub version of GX season 4 it just seems like a huge waste of money to dub all the other seasons of the show but not the last one.

Honestly, the very rushed character development is my biggest peeve with Season 4. You have these characters who haven't been able to do much for so long and now are suddenly put into the spotlight for a few episodes. To add onto this, this development doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things since after that they don't get to do anything but lose to the Big Bad again.

I honestly enjoyed season 4 of yugioh gx and considered it to be good closure for the characters and the gx series.

You gotta love how Judai's friends said they will help him out against Trueman and then all of them get killed off by him.

My opinion of season 4 is mixed, I like Jaden overall, but the issue with entire GX series, not just Season 4 is that Jaden makes everyone look too inferior by putting so much focus on him. Granted, this season did try to give everyone a conclusion so Jaden isn't very prevalent for the first half, but since the arcs feel rushed, Jaden is the only one to received a proper resolution. It also feels like wasted potential to not have Yubel present. After everything that happened last season, and Season 4 feeling the impacts of Season 3, its really odd that Yubel hardly does much. How amazing would it have been for Yubel to interact with Johan after possessing him! I do wish Aster and Zane had a larger role, rather than just assisting with Chazz's and Syrus's development, but overall it wasn't terrible. I never really shipped Alexis and Jaden just because it seemed the two were more annoyed with each other this season. So I'm sorta happy that Alexis didn't have some big confession because it wasn't the best relationship to begin with. Johan and Axel didn't do much, but I was satisfied with their roles. It felt weird that Adrian Gecko was the only character left behind and presumably trapped to suffer or just straight up dead, but i think he got what he deserved so I'm not going to complain about him not returning

Jumping from Season 3 to Bonds Beyond Time was jarring as someone who never watched Season 4 as a kid.

Season four was probably my favorite season. Not because of the season itself, but because of the way it concluded so many stories, showed how characters grew, and really was the endpoint of the show. When i think gx, i cannot think about it without thinking of the conclusions given to the characters in season 4. It fills me with nostalgia, its bittersweet, it makes me sad that its over, happy that it happenes, and curious where the characters will go next despite knowing ill never find out. I think thats part of its beauty. The duels and plots dont really matter, so them being mostly meh doesnt hold it back for me. Theyre not whats important. Whats important is the character growth theyve all gone through, are going through, and will go through after the series is done, and i think season four does an amazing job showing that that growth Did happen and will continue to happen when we arent looking. Season four really solidified gx as an excellent coming of age story, and i dont think gx as a whole would be as meaningful without this finish, despite its flaws

I never actually cared for the specifics of the Tag duel but what said duel represented. Again Jaden's going through literal Emo Loner phase and throughout the first few rounds ether plays by himself, OTKing, or OTK's using Alexis' cards as literal tribute fodder when she had plans herself. Hell I think he literally did the Bladedge Hero Mask mukti attack combo using Alexis's Cyber Tutu as fodder, i dont fully remember its been ages. My point is that the Tag Duel reignite's Jaden's main character motivation and he does start to have fun again since he for a time played against Alexis. My main gripe though was the nostalgia pandering s4 did. Like again aforementioned Tag duel playing the way it did while narritively was needed, couldve been set up slightly differently, while his Duel against Crowler was Amazing and the real life implications were there, the fact Jaden won with Skydive Scorcher for 3100 Atk AGAIN didnt need to happen said way, His duel against Sartorius LITERALLY having a effective turn skip PLUS AFEX X-Ruler type card and the BIGGGEST Legacy pander in Nightshroud/Darkness. And like his motivation being something THAT Generic and yet having no real motivation for helping Kagemaru in the Shadow riders also sucked ass. Plus if I recall correctly. Jaden early on even said that he's the one always solving everyone else's problems so thats why he wants to leave and only stays to clean up HIS own mess since he is partially responsible for Trueman/Yusuke/Darkness\Nightshroud for even being in the Earthly Dimension. Like if everyone else tried to fight and won against Trueman(s) but fell to Yusuke or Darkness at least wouldve been some nice growth for them

It was 5ds I heard, sad since I think season 4 could've been a missed opportunity for character development. Jaden and Chazz are the only ones to get any development. A longer season would've helped fleshed out their characters and their development. Yeah the stories just coming up all random hurt the season, judai vs the main villain then the other stories like Chazz, Syrus and Alexis just coming out nowhere and most of the cast losing to some rando character. Light of Destruction (the entity) vs Judai which was also the original would've been awesome to be honest. Tag duel was awesome haha for me.

I think Jaden beating Mr T as easily can be justified because he has Yubel's power and Mr T was getting progressively more powerful. The other opponent's did not have the powers to counter what Mr T was doing, thus they were easy preys. Bastion probably stayed back to be together with Tanya

The reason only Jaiden could beat Mr. T I'm pretty sure besides plot is that with Yubel Jaiden is immune to Mr. Ts illusions and mind tricks. Which we saw Axel fall prey to and likely the other characters too but we never actullay saw their duels. He also used different decks against the other characters if I remember right.

I think why the yugioh shows were good to watch was pacing. There was slow pacing which alot of times was enjoyable with time spent on duels that wasnt needed but they were done

I would disagree with one thing, Judai/Jaden wouldn't begun his path to heal if it wasn't because of the tag duel between him Asuka/Alexis, Tyranno/HasSomething(I don't remember his english name) and Rei/(What was her english name). So i think it's giving it too little credit, not that it was amazing, but it's after this 2 episodes that we see Judai going back to spending time with his friends, not just being on his own, im not saying he is suddenly back to a middle ground of having grow up immediately, but she started the process, and that deserves more credit then you are giving her.

My opinion of this season is...not exactly positive. It is my least favorite season in the entirety of Yu-gi-oh, including the 4Kids-seasons and...yeah, that means a lot because Season 2 of dubbed GX kinda sucks. I just do not like how it disrespects what came before outside of some key continuity-mentions of "Oh yeah, remember that and then this happens". Like, Ryo? Yeah, he gets revived 4Kids-style while the dub not having the season lets his counterpart Zane stay dead and thus keeps the integrity of the tragedy lined out by the prior season. Judai(English: Jaden)? He gets hit with "you need to have fun again" at least 3 times across the season after he was shown brighten up again at the end of Season 3 already, so this just makes a mess of his supposed character development and degrades the final duel to fancy fanservice(Still a really good duel tho, one of the few good parts). The Season 1-friendgroup are done more dirty than in Season 3 somehow and at least they still had a proper point there and were also largely substituted by new characters. Supposedly their part of the season is "Moving past Judai's shadow", but that just does not happen in a sensical way. Sho(English: Syrus) and his whole thing with inheriting the cyberdark-deck is just silly and Jun(English: Chazz) did infact succeed in his goal through his own power, but only after getting a wakeup call by Judai again, so the writers kinda cheated here.(Though Ojama Yellow punching Edo(English: Aster) in the face is another one of those "few good parts" I mentioned earlier. It is glorious). The other ones are whatever. Also, they did not even bother elaborating on Misawa(English: Bastion) being declared missing, they made it a "blink and you miss it"-kind of deal, which is just horrendous. At least Season 3 bothered with him(and actually made him vital to what is going on without him dueling, a rare thing in Yu-gi-oh), even if it could have done a lot more with him. Fubuki is the one part where the season could have gotten major points expanding on prior stuff because he is the character who could have benefitted greatly from getting real closure that did not exist before, because from the 4Kids-version perspective of only having 3 seasons, the final act of his counterpart Atticus was spawning into the narrative in the second half of season 3, barely doing jack all, then getting shelved as soon as he is sacrificed. But of course, they did not. The season starts incredibly promising with covering his connection to the power of darkness and why the entity darkness(English: Nightshroud) was possessing him in the past. But then they drop him like a rock until he "becomes relevant", at which point his potential closure being negated is *literally* a plotpoint of his duel against his past friend, when they easily could have done it in a way that is more respectful to him and also more tragic. That was the moment where me not liking the season turned to me basically hating it. Lastly, the world of darkness is basically a whole lot of wasted potential. We could have had a conflict of deeper meaning between nihilism and hope where the villains go by the logic of "this is a better fate for humanity rather than continuing and suffering more." And considering how they give the ruined 5DS-future a cameo in the final battle, I am fairly sure this was the intention somewhere. Issue being that if you just make people suffer to the max for no reason, then no, that is just outwardly dumb and not challening anything. It would have been 100 times better if they instead trapped people in illusions they would consider positive, as in "Giving in to your darkness means to lose sight of reality and to subcontiously choose to live a lie". Which would actually fit the themes of the season really well, because the main characters are in the phase of their lives where they have to confront their fears for the future and potential guilt of the past. Slipping into the easy path due to the difficulty of engaging with rough reality would be heavy stuff.(Especially if you don't revive Zane and later give Syrus an illusion of him having survived, come on!) Tldr: GX is flawed, but this season flips the table. Some things are actually just better with what Season 3(in combination with the 5ds dub in the case of implying Syrus to have continued the cyber legacy in his brother's memory) gave us, which is a kind of "Open ended closure" to seveal characters or in less vital cases the mercy of no closure at all. Which I am saying because the "closure" Season 4 gives mostly stinks(Also, they actively damaged Manjoume's/Chazz's character by just ignoring that he went off on Judai in Season 3, which really should have been addressed if they had the chance. Forgot to mention that before). The plots of the season are also pretty suboptimally executed and result in a lot of meh characterwriting and the villains being less emotionally interessting than Yubel, which...a straight downgrade from what came before is not great. I hope this never comes to germany, because despite the relative damage the localization did to the series at large, I actually prefer just having the regional dub of 4Kids-GX.(Though german 5DS made a lot of mistakes, so I basically have to jump to another language after GX and that is kinda awkward.) However, tbf, even people who hate localized Yu-gi-oh don't want it to get dubbed because it would most likely not mean "We get a piece of JP Yugioh", but rather "They are going to force a newly cut season 4 into the existing dub-lineup". Basically, if one wants to see Season 4 because "It existing is the original intent by Studio Gallop", one would watch it subbed on Crunchyroll or on the high seas anyways. 10:00 That is something I will never understand. The point of Jaden in Season 4 was that...er, he IS Yubel. Like straight up, he legit expositiondumps to the friendgroup early in the season that the individual that he is at that moment is a hybrid of his original self, the Supreme King's power and Yubel's spirit. Yubel should not have returned as an Atem-style partner because they are the same entity that should have the same mind. And this is a bit where I cannot even claim the localized Yu-gi-oh to have done particularly "better", because BBT locks this into being the case there too.(Though I guess at least the expositiondump that it contradicts does not exist over there, so it is at least "less bad".)

I love how people are like "it gets too dark" Season 1: Guy gets duelists to revive phantasms of the gods to get his youth and take over the world Season 2: Guy gets duelists to join a cult and spread the light of destruction and destroy the world Season 3: Yubel is mental and transported to a new world twice to duel to survive and losing basically means death. with newer more competant students showing up to try and save the day so jaden can fight yubel. Season 4: Darkness comes around to tries to plunge the world into darkness while finishing off some of the character endings and letting some characters finally getting to chill from their darkest times. The series as a whole was pretty dark when you think about it.
