Sally, an introverted 15 year old girl, lives and bears with her wolf-father in the city of New York where Wolf is slipping more and more into his world of wilderness.
Sally still remembers the man he used to be; a brilliant and talented jazz trumpeter. Where did her father go? And can he still be found somewhere within the Wolf?

For those that don't understand, this is NOT about abuse but addiction - most likely alcohol. The entire animation is a metaphor for addiction and how, much like a beast; people lose more and more of themselves the more they allow something to consume them. Also, that is her father not husband or boyfriend but really it doesn't matter because it is someone she cares for. The entire animation revolves around her trying to find a solution and him coming to terms to accept it. Towards the beginning, she thinks reminiscing about his old music career might help but it only seems to drive him further toward his instincts. The trumpet is symbolic of that moment as she plays it and his old records but he more or less seems uninterested or bitter because of it. Especially after he drunkenly plays out in the street and is berated by neighbors. The father consuming the cat may mean he is symbolically "devouring" anything that makes her happy because of his addiction because addicts often forgo the needs of others to meet that craving or even bum off relatives or their own children to fill that need. Or it could represent she can never truly be happy because the thought of her father being miserable is always looming about inside her mind and consuming her thoughts. Thus, she turns to her second option - the muzzle. The muzzle I think represents denial or a rigid acceptance. It's not gradual but sudden and anyone who has had an addiction knows this most likely wont work because you can't simply "stop" being addicted right on the spot. It's not healthy or reasonable to a person; addiction takes time to start and in turn time to stop. The daughter doesn't understand this. When she tries to put the muzzle on him, as another commentor said; he "feels betrayed" and lashes out in misplaced anger. Realizing what he has become he wears the muzzle and honestly seems to be contemplating suicide to either escape the truth or remove himself so he daughter can be free. But I think at that point, they realize what the best solution is... It's her. I believe her removing the muzzle hints that she realizes neither the past nor the muzzle will help her father because they don't see him for what he is but she does (symbolized by the moment where she takes off the muzzle and we briefly see him for the man he IS not was). It's her love and dedication that made her father realize he needed to change because he loves her too - enough to dawn the muzzle and even maybe kill himself so she wont worry over him anymore. But luckily both them realize the best solution is each other and what they feel and will do for one another and the ending hints that the father isn't cured of the disease right of the bat but together they will work toward that cure as a family.

I liked how the entire story depicted its allegory about parents with an addiction (be it alcohol or drugs). It's like they're a whole different animal, one that's always hungry, always prowling for more, losing a little more humanity with each fix. And the muzzle represented getting help or rehabilitation. The girl was hesitant to use the muzzle on her father because it was a last resort. It was only once her father crossed a line that she made up her made to get him help (in the form of the muzzle). When he bit her, it represented how defensive he got, how betrayed he felt that his own daughter thought he deserved rehabilitation. And yet, he donned the muzzle on himself to admit he did need help. I guess, getting help isn't something you can force on someone, even with good intentions. First, they have to want to change.

I think the muzzle represents her about to call the police because her father did some form of violence. Perhaps injured or killed someone to get more "food" Him putting it on meant the father wanted to own up to his mistakes and surrendering himself to the police. I dunno, this is just my theory

5:00-5:10 I like how it shows the daughter's thoughts: she's coming to terms that her father's addiction wasn't just something that happened overnight. Addictions build up slowly, one day at a time. And if she wants her father to break out of it, she must accept that becoming sober isn't an instant solution, but a gradual process.

This is a great metaphor. The wife catches him eating a live animal again (drinking again) and when she tries to muzzle him (confront him about his alcohol addiction), he hits her so she walks out on him only to return when he shows her he will muzzle himself (seek help/treatment for his addiction).

Wow! Really good work. Beautiful art direction. The lower frame rate gave it a sort of stop motion feeling. Actually, I'd really like to see this in stop motion if you ever have the budget to do it. The animation generally had very good timing and acting to it. The faces were very natural and expressive. Very relatable. The story was simple, but engaging enough. I think that a few more prominent elements providing insight into the relationship between the two characters would have helped me out. While it was clear that this girl was in an abusive relationship, I wasn't sure if it was a romantic partner situation or a father/daughter situation. But yeah, all told this was really cool to watch. Thanks.

This is an incredibly well thought out animation that conveys the effect addiction has on people. The art style perfectly compliments the somber mood of the film, as does the grey/ blue air around everything. The lighting is beautiful, and the motion reminds me of films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I adore. Incredible job, you really deserve more attention than you do.

Wow, this was very touching. My first thought was that he couldn't play unless he was UNTAMED, in other words, playing the instrument on his own terms, his own self expression. And when he wasn't "allowed," when he was muzzled, he was miserable and he became that angry wild (untamed) wolf. This was more a story about expressing one's self the way they wished but those actions, though really not fair, affects others in a big way if they don't understand you. I didn't realize it was a father and daughter. Anyway, the ending was brilliant and I actually had a few tears when she leaned against his shoulder as if to say, "I understand" The screen fades to black the credits roll but the sound is still on. Suddenly you hear a wild roar and a scream along with crunching sounds....oh that's terrible. Sorry!!! haha I just had to end my comment with that last (terrible) sentence. Just lightening up the (or rather MY) mood! It really was a fantastic short video.

I lost my Father to alcohol eleven years ago on Sep 26, 2016. The day after my parents wedding anniversary. He was drunk and in a motorcycle accident. I was 15. A month later I would turn 16. My Father was laid off from work and said he wanted to drink so bad after a year sobriety. The next morning....the last words I said to him was I love you too Dad, then we hugged. I could not believe those were my last moments with my dad....I am 27 going on 28 in Oct now. The guilt has ridden me since then. It was my fault. I should have convinced him not to drink with his family and drive home. But I did not know until then when the sheriff broke the news that Saturday morning.

For those of you who don't understand; I believe that this animation is a representation of substance abuse, be it drugs or alcohol, and the affects it can have on children because of that. To start, an addiction can make you piss away your whole life career, hence why "The Wolf" used to be a talented trumpeter, but is not anymore. In the scene where he's outside, playing his trumpet, it's a representation of him being drunk/on whatever drug he's abusing. He wakes everyone up, without noticing or even intending to. When the muzzle shows up at their door, I beleive that shows that child protective services are trying to help. Finally, the abuse gets so bad to a point where the wolf actually murders someone, be it a family member or good friend. The main character is shocked, and calls child protective services and the police. The wolf gets mad at her and attacks, hurting the girl. The girl runs away, and when she finally comes back, it may be a representation of rehab, considering that the wolf seems more calm and realizes he was wrong in his ways.
