Thanks alot for bringing Ms. Malik in the podcast. It really is very informative and is a delight to gain knowledge from her experience. When I heard her it not only gave me new information which was not known heretofore, it also brought out the comparative points vis-a-vis India. India too had launched its electricity reforms in late 1980's which have not been completed till date. If we study electricity reforms across the developing world we will find that it almost started around the same times and were basically egged on by owner companies/ power plant suppliers of the developed countries. India also had made similar blunders in allowing similar power projects that were launched around the same time( i.e.1990's and 2000's.) India didn't get into trouble despite agreeing for similar IPP's purely because of two reasons I.e God favoured and Enron went into liquidation( Enron had dollars denominated similar power project ) as also Indonesia imposed tariffs on coal which was to be used by UMPP( ultra mega power projects of 4000 MW and above) which were set up near sea shores for use of imported coal. It is also a fact that UMPP's have helped in the present situation to overcome heavy demand despite stiff tariffs of landed cost of coal & on cost plus basis. If we built the Kalabagh Dam timely in the period of 70-80 and after that Bahsha Dam we wouldn't have such great problems with water and power shortfall. That shows the great negligence of our rulers and bureaucracy.

It's unfortunate that the blunders of Zia ul Haq are still facing this poor nation.

Instead of criticism on policies, problem is compliance. If State ensures 100% compliance, there would be no problem at all

Just for comparison. Total installed capacity in Pakistan - 40GW.. total installed renewable capacity in India is 442GW. Total dollar denomination debt in Pakistan 100+ billion USD. Total dollar denominated debt in india 0. If Pakistan's main objective was to solve the electricity crisis, it failed. If it was to remain an independent sovereign, it failed.
