This house was originally built in 1962. and in 2020 it sits the same as it did when it was built.
the original owners resided here from 1962 until late 2018. it has sat completely vacant ever since.
everything about this house is amazing. the fact it's 58 years old and is in such immaculate condition is absolutely amazing to me.
unfortunately, this home will soon be no more, as there are plans to demolish it and build a brand new 6500 sq ft home on the property.
Thanks for watching! and be sure to follow my Instagram if you haven't already!

I'm a builder and can tell you vintage houses were built to last unlike today's construction (the baseboard in new homes is compressed cardboard to look and feel like wood believe it or not). I have a love for homes built in the 50's, 60's and 70's, especially ranchers or "ramblers". All time favorite design is a Frank Lloyd Wright Mid-century with the exposed wood beams. A lot of solid wood and natural brick was used back then. Engineers and architects had a good understanding of foundation, floor joist, and truss design. Even the workers took pride in their work back then. Today, it's all about collecting a paycheck.

ABSOLUTELY FAKE as I note I was alive and a 1963 home looks nothing like this. from the wall outnet numbers to the moulding not available and on and on. this is much newer. @@darlenestone2983 You would not understand having not done electrical work. the original wiring would not have had that number of boxes on any given wall to install all those boxes and updated the wall would have to have been torn out to get at the wriing the suggestion the house was untouched defeats this suggestion. So either the man is lying about the age and it being untouched. The house is more modern as in the 1970's or later as we have suggested from evidence in the images seen.. few online would know what a 1963 home wall construction wiring electical outlets moulding etc would look like. Ivan J. Conway right I agree, I think the whole point is that someone is tearing down a perfectly good, clean home. I don’t care if it’s from the 1960’s or from 2005 made to look like 1960’s, the fact that it’s a well taken care of clean home that’s being bulldozed in favor of building new is what stings.

@@gardendormouse6479 : Thank You Garden, I completely, agree. I've been years now, screaming my head off with the direction the current, modern, interior design, trends seem to increasingly, be going but sadly, there is not enough of us out there, doing this, to make a difference it seems. Sterile is an extremely, good word for pretty near, everything to do with current, modern, interior design, and unbelievably, we seem to be going ever, further in that direction as if we have not gone far enough already. How much more white and bare can we go, anyway? Places now, are pretty much, all white; completely, open concept for as much as they can get away with; and as bare and basic as you can possibly, make a place; then if that were not bad enough, they have to be throwing all this metallic shit in, everywhere, to seal that coldness and sterility still, even, further. It's driving me absolutely, crazy! Then they will say; well, we want things "bright" and "uncluttered" as if the slightest thing to make a place the least bet warm and cozy will send them into some sort of confused, frenzy or something. Never in my life, have I heard so much ridicules nonsense concerning anything that even, smacks of warmth and coziness as I've had to put up with, over the past, 20 odd, years or so. Isn't 20 odd, years about as long as any trend will last? Why the hell, are we not starting to see things change now?! Two things I hate with a bitter, burning, passion, that being; current, modern, pop music, and current, modern, architecture and interior design. I loath both beyond words. I honestly, don't understand the mentality that allows people to be comfortable with pretty much, any of this. I blame a lot of it on the computer age and the computer mentality everybody seems to be developing; stark, dry, dead, cold and extremely, sterile. I don't think it's any coincidence that we see this level of blandness and sterility in interior design at the very same time that computers, smart phones and modern technology have completely, taken over our lives. We are not connected with nature and the natural world any longer, very few of us anyway, very seldom, so we don't see that reflected in the world around us. Browns are evil now. Greens are evil now. Unpainted, hardwood on anything other than your floor, is evil now. Bad, backward, dated and passe. But it's all these things, and these very colours that have always, added warmth, comfort, character and charm to a place. Always. Then things designed with intricate detail to add that added touch of sophistication as well. I personally, still, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, spindles and ornate legs on things, and things of that nature, and would have as much of it in my place as I could get away with, if I had my own place to do it in. And tons and tons of various shades of greens and browns everywhere! There would be NO, damn, open concept as I love my rooms and the change and privacy they provide, and to hell with all this stupid, minimalist, nonsense as I'd have my place chalk full of lovely, wonderful, things that would add as much warmth, coziness and character and charm as I could create. Even renting, I've done a lot of that now, already. And drapes; yes, I'd have tons of luscious, luxurious, drapes everywhere, with wonderful, rich, colour in them again. Love sheers too, but with and in front of the drapes for extra privacy and coziness as we've done forever, until recent years. Absolutely, EVERYTHING, that is NOT, being done today, and I'd be damn, proud of it, as well, and no one would EVER, make me feel it's the least bet "DATED" AT ALL! There needs to be certain, basic, standards in interior design that are recognized and considered TIMELESS, for EVERY, generation and I think some of those I've included here. So yes, it pains me beyond words, when I see lovely, older, places like this, that maybe, need to be tweaked just a little, to make them more cozy, more to modern standards, completely, gutted as we see in these shit, reno shows, or destroyed altogether, to make way for some matchbox mansion, as another commentator called them, that will be as bland, boring and typical as anything, and that may fall apart in maybe, half the time it's taken for this place to stand here, in this video. It's not improvements at all, but decided, downgrades on every level. So it's an extremely, sad time indeed, for those of us who have more, "old school" taste, and wish to see SOME, older things PRESERVED, as they are part of our collective history and SHOULD, be preserved, anyway! IN TACT, pretty much. Would you not agree? Sorry I was so, long winded there, but this is something that has been tormenting me terribly, for years now. Two, full, damn, decades to be precise, and I'm pretty much, beside myself with it all, now. My Retro/Vintage Best. Stay In and Be Safe. Out For Now.

This house from 1962 is absolutely beautiful from the way it's built (the room sizes and closet spaces) inside and out and the wallpaper and original paint coloring in the house is just gorgeous. I honestly would much rather live in a house like this over anything that's more 'modern,' from the 2000's. This house is far too pretty with so much character to be demolished and destroyed; they should try to get rid of all the mold and safety hazards. Aside from that, this house should be kept up and cared for and sold to a new family, NOT torn down.

Pocket doors. Beveled glass. It was gorgeous. That crawl space in the basement was probably put under a new addition. So when they added on they didn’t do a full basement. Just a crawl space to get to the pipes etc.

I hope that someone came in and salvaged the quality hardware, wood, fireplace, fabrics, doors, lighting, windows, etc. when I was redoing a house from 1920s I went to a salvage yard to find original replacements from the era, same kind of home. Back then wood was wood not composites or fake facades to make things look real. Excellent home!

Shadow Dancer I wondered the same thing myself. So many of the features were well crafted built-ins, so it would have been hard to remove that beauty without compromising it. But plenty of doors, handles (the lucite towel loops were sweet!) and even bath fixtures could have been salvaged. I work restoring homes of mostly wooden construction up through 1959, when the majority of building materials changed. But houses like this were built like fortresses! It is such a shame more people don’t see past a cosmetic change to keep these well built structures around for generations to come. Good luck with your restoration work!

@Jeffrey Barton : Jeffery, do you honestly, think that what they will replace this place with will have even, one quarter of the character and charm that this place has?! I very, seriously, doubt it. The way architecture and design are going today, is utterly, disgusting. Completely, devoid of any, warmth and charm or heart and soul, at all. And nowhere nearly, constructed as well, either. There's two sides to everything, and this side is just as valid you know. Out.

@Jeffrey Barton : Yes, certainly, and you honestly, think they care, much, what goes in place here, unless it makes more, damn, money for them?! I highly, doubt it. As I said in one of my other comments; you'd understand fully, if the place were already, falling apart and were rat and mice infested and that sort of thing, but this place has that lovely, old school, charm, and we can clearly, see that it remains still, in mint condition. How many more of these places are going to be left in the world? It is typical of a style of building and architecture that is no more, and for that reason alone, not to mention it's still, in mint condition; it should be preserved and left, more or less, as is. But people who think ONLY, of money care nothing for things of this nature. For the sake of damn, money they would destroy everything in this world that is beautiful and has any real, character or charm, at all. And that I find highly, sickening. My Retro/Vintage Best. Out.

The bathroom on the basement level @ 15:26 is not 1960's decor...I have a feeling it was built later OR redecorated in the 1980's/1990's. Also I'm getting a vibe from that basement level that it was basically a blank full basement in the 1960's then later divided into rooms at some point, like the 1970's/80's. Really good find.

@@annadaniel6405 : I'm not sure I understand this reply Anna. I think the government should enact stricter laws as to what can and cannot be destroyed. Any places that are 40 to 50 plus, years of age, that clearly, show the design styles of when they were built, should be considered of historical importance and preserved. Preserved for the fact they don't build houses in those styles any longer, and as time passes, these looks and styles will be increasingly, of architectural, historical, importance. Those that are disagreeing with me here, on this, are looking at it from an economic point of view and only, that alone, it seems. Also, if all this land development were being done to improve the communities as a whole, and to benefit as large a population base as possible, maybe, I could live with this more, maybe, but as always, it's about putting money in the pockets of the rich few, to make them that much richer still. Nothing more. Because, how much money will people need to move into these bright, spacious, modern, INFERIOR, places, anyway? Of course, it was only, the rich that ever, could afford to live in these older style homes, as well, as far as that goes, but this is about preserving older, vintage, architecture and style, for me, which simply, does not exist anymore and where no one today, is recreating anything similar, so these looks and styles are in danger of dying out and being forgotten forever. Sorry, I for one, do NOT, want to live in ONLY, an all white, open concept, world. Anyone in their right mind, with any level of taste, at all, shouldn't either. My Old School/Retro/Vintage Best. Be Well. Be Safe. Out.

Ivan J. Conway I’m from Detroit and there are tons of homes and other places that are in the poorest conditions yet they are still standing for whatever reason and it makes the community look bad. This place is obviously in top condition and it’s being torn down? That was why I made that comment. Sounds like a bunch of corporate greed for me. It’s pretty sad to think about. This place could’ve been saved. It could’ve been a beautiful family home but the rich would rather spend money for no apparent reason. I wholeheartedly agree that the government should enact stricter laws to save certain places because this place deserves it. But it seems like they don’t care about anything else but money. 😒
@ivanj.conway9919
@ivanj.conway9919 4 жыл бұрын
@@annadaniel6405 : I am extremely, pleased to see an American thinking and talking this way, and of course, I completely, agree. I've always, said that absolutely, everything should not come down to money, but blind, mindless, die hard, capitalist never can see that. So you see, despite popular opinion in the U.S., we have our die hard, capitalist here, as well, who seem to care for nothing but money and only that. Sacrifice absolutely, everything to the almighty dollar. Yes, corporate greed likely, sums this up nicely. Honestly, have you EVER, seen BETTER, abandoned homes as Ethan features in his videos?! I certainly, have not. Still, trying to figure out where, in Canada, this is. Must be some area rolling in money that's all I know. Yes Anna, Detroit is a very, sad state of affairs indeed. One of the worst cities in the U.S. if I'm not mistaken. I understand the government in the U.S. does not like to interfere in State affairs, and the people, themselves, do not seem to want this, but maybe, Detroit should be an exception here. Maybe with several million dollars infusion of capital into this city, maybe the residents there, could find a way to turn things around, again. Yes, you have rows on rows of lovely, older, homes in deplorable state. Extremely sad indeed. These neighbourhoods must have been absolutely, gorgeous at one time. I saw a video once, of Detroit back in the 50s and 60s and they compared it to today, and is was horribly, heartbreaking. Detroit was a really, nice place, once, and I'm lost as to why it can't be again. I remember being in Windsor, Ontario back in the mid 80s, as I was there on a summer, work term, and I had considered, crossing the boarder into the States to visit Detroit, to at least, say I've been out of Canada at least, once in my life, and I was told back then, that it was a place that you would not want to go into. And this was around, 1985/86. Can't imagine what it's like now. Regardless, I never had proper documents to get into the country, even, for a visit, anyway. But this was the mid 80s keep in mind, when cross boarder visiting and shopping was so much easier. Yes Anna, I don't know what's going to become of it all, Darling, I really, don't. I'm fighting for the preservation of vintage, architecture, and style and so forth, in an ever, increasing, dead, drab, dry, boring, all white, open concept, world but I feel like a voice crying in the wilderness, with the vast majority of people not even, caring, at all. But I will say, the comment section to most of Ethan's videos is quite, encouraging, indeed. It seems that I'm not as alone as I first thought. Even with younger people, which is quite, encouraging, indeed. All My Best. Be Well. Be Safe, Darling. Out.

My home was built in 1964, and even though there are things I don't like about it (lack of sufficient closet space) there are more things I love about it. Three walls of brick, ALL hardwood floors except in two rooms, a curved wall, stone wall surrounding my fireplace and wrought iron banisters inside my home. The character is just awesome. We unfortunately did have to modernize the kitchen due to work flow and cabinet space that was not working for what we needed.
