Unusual motorhome with non standard layout : the Challenger 250

Another unusual motorhome from the Trigano Group, this Challenger 250 has a somewhat non standard layout. You can see why in this video!
I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
In my KZfaq channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles. Challenger are sold as Chausson in the UK, That van is a Flash 520 Chausson

@@Nagsheadwarrior I believe the equivalent in the Chausson is the 650 (the 520 is basically the same but in a 6m length with less storage at the back)

Chris Purdy no, there’s no 650! There’s a 640 which has a double drop down bed, and the 630 which has two drop down singles (which are brilliant for those who don’t get up or go to bed at the same time). We have the 630.

Holly Palmer the 640 and 630 are 7m vans. The 650 (which there definitely is one, might have been new for 2020) is essentially a 6.4m version of the 640 :)

Great van! Closet was the clincher! Almost felt like a small New York Apartment!! Better yet you get to drive it away!❤️😍💋 Some day the US market will see what y'all are doing. Even saw a van called the California made by VW recently that was delightful too! Thanks for the video!💋

Finally a European design I truly like. So small yet so much room. Because of the lack of pullouts on most motorhomes in Europe they should have more beds in the ceiling and less bedrooms, the space would be amazing.

Something like this would sell so well in the U.S. Everything you could need in this little home on wheels. Not sure why our manufacturers have not come up with something similar.

J. Thompson Me too! These UK versions are so light inside and these type of RV’s would sell like hot cakes in the US to retirees that finally have the time to travel! I wish I could talk my husband into buying something like this and us traveling all over the US. There are so many beautiful places here to see.

I wish we had RV's like this in the US. It would fit in a normal parking spot and be great for one or two people to travel in. I'm sure if they sold it in the US they would make it cost two or three times the price too. I think the longer seat in the lounge might be long enough for a nap, but if the bed doesn't come too close to the table top it would be easy just to lower it for a lie down. If someone else was driving, I think I would just sleep in the front seat as that is probably the safest in an accident. I like this van a lot especially after I saw that there is still a good size garage. I have a couple folding bicycles and chairs that would fit in there.

I think that the shower would be more suited to the wider end of the bathroom. It seems like an upright coffin where it is located.

This is one of my favorites so far. I don't need that much storage so maybe a shorter version if there will be that. And skip the sofa on the passenger side for other use. I really will check out more of their coming motorhomes. Thank you Alan.

This looks very similar to a Rollerteam t line we hired a couple years back. Same basic layout with a garage. We loved the feeling of space and the large rear washroom space.

I agree that this is a great van design Alan. Very usable space in a relatively short vehicle. All it needs is a oven and it would be perfect for U.K. market.

Tsanko Tsankov more British made camper vans have ovens because that’s the market. If British buyers want the vehicle it may be an option.

I just don't like the fact that this bed is electrical, because if there's a problem with the system in the middle of the trip, the passengers will have to sleep on the floor. The kitchen also needs a device to catch the steam of the food. On the hand I loved that the toilet and the shower are separate!

Ford or Fiat - storage is usually available under the seats but remember that the water tank has to go somewhere!

Most every year I go to my local TV show and the offerings are always the same.....bench seats, dining and sleeping for 6+, a huge bed and cramped as a result. Why can't an option be made for a solo camper or for couple and forget the notion of entertaining a flock of others?

I love the extra space a drop down bed gives but... what happens when one of you wants to get up early and have breakfast? I don’t know any couples who wake up together and get out of bed together.

Blue light is supposed to stop you sleeping, my phone even has a 'yellow' screen mode for evening and night because of this. I suspect a yellow/warm lamp would be far better - it's just fashion. duckduckgo.com/?q=sleep+blue+light

It looks like a carbon copy of the Chausson 650, both of course owned by Trigano with many equivalent models. I own the slightly longer 2018 640 (

I like it it is beautiful enjoyable but I would like the lounge section to change into a bedroom at night instead of letting the bed down from the roof.

You didn't explain about the +/- 6.4m. Also, I'm pretty sure it would be illegal (at least in the UK) to sleep in the bed while someone's driving. No seatbelts in bed. I do like that layout though.

I think, and I might be wrong, and don't use this as your defence in court, but if one is lying down not in the direction of traffic then a seat belt is not compulsory. Maybe someone else can give a better legal opinion rather than my hearsay?

@@VanlifewithAlan I think lorry drivers can take a turn on the bunk with another driver at the wheel when double manning, not 100% sure if its the same or not for non hgvs. Nice van and good vid thanks Alan

@@VanlifewithAlan Well, regardless of what the law is, I wouldn't do it, you'd be flung around in the event of a crash, which is probably why people are not allowed to travel in a caravan being towed.

If I ever wanted to downsize this us the sort of thing I’d go for. The only issue with these is you don’t always get a roof light and some I’ve been in I haven’t been able to stand up under the drop down bed. And of course you both have to go to bed at the same time.

GREAT VAN. I didn't see the bed down, but I would buy this van in a heart beat. QUESTIONS 1) DOES IT HAVE 4 WHEELS ON THE REAR AXLE 2) DO You have pictures with the bed down 3) is it a diesel engine, and what are the Horse Power and Torque numbers. Great Video

In order Michael. Only two wheels on rear axle, no picture with the bed down and I don't have the figures for the diesel engine off the top of my head but they can be easily found.

My wife would like that layout: a big wardrobe and space to move about and change clothes in the bathroom. I'm not sure that a separate shower cubicle is needed, but it could be useful to hang wet clothing. A drop-down bed seems such a space saver over a fixed bed, but is it possible to leave your bedding (a duvet) on it in the raised position? Not having to make up the bed every night would be a blessing.

Allan nobody can have a lie down when the vehicle is moving! Not only is it illegal, it's crazy stupid! Nice looking van, seem to have taken a leaf from the Chausson range. Are they the same group because that's a Chausson?

The dealers here are in Germany not Poland. Any Trigano dealer such as Chausson should be able to assist in the UK.

Alan what's your open and honest opinion regarding a electric or even a pull down bed? So many people say stay away and stick to fixed ..im new to the motor home world ..thanks neil

Good point Neil. Hard question. I think most problems occur because people don't know how they work (like many things). However you should be forgiven for not knowing how it is supposed to work so I would avoid them if possible. If it breaks or something goes wrong, then you have to take it back to the dealer!

@@VanlifewithAlan thanks Alan spent the afternoon looking at the burstner range on you tube..we like a lot just the habitation door not on nearside which could make it difficult to open once on our drive ! But I guess it's something you overcome if you like something so much lol

Love the layout and space but all these camper vans don't give a big enough kitchen area. Try washing a saucepan in that small sink it's hardly big enough for a dinner plate.

It's a Burstner Ixeo 690G clone, it's a keen price but I think the Burstner has a far superior quality finish.......I love this layout though, it's a great use of space

Yes, it would be highly unusual to have any other form in a van like this.

agree not unusual, I don't recall the Chausson having the access hatch to the garage but otherwise its as good as the same thing.

These short motorhomes with ceiling mounted beds are really good, the space is fantastic and the only space-cost appears to be a little more height. I wasn't a fan of ceiling beds but the shorter vans like this make a lot of sense with them. As for the PVC sector is it still only Globe Traveller that does this format of bed (ignoring the overpriced VW Beluga Whales) ?

I think it is 100 litres off the top of my head (might be 95). There is no power source - if you want one, you have to install it.

Alan Heath I love the concepts of these mobile homes but I would have a big problem with the water and compost toilet - I shower and wash my hair every day and I have Crohn’s disease which means I’d be changing these toilets every day! 😢
