The Blobfish was recently declared WORLD'S UGLIEST ANIMAL!
But is that really fair? And even if the Blobfish is less attractive that some of its fishy cohorts, does that make it any less lovable?
Let's take a closer look at how this unusual creature became an overnight celebrity. And while we're at it, how about a musical boxing match performed on two of the lowest-pitched instruments -- tubax and contrabassoon?

This blobfish is dead, not terrified. It was terrified when fishernen were pulling it out and it made it's body depressurize, ripping apart its cells. It's a dead, deformed body of a fish. And people are calling this corpse cute when it's not what the fish looks like in natural habitat.

It's not unusual it looks completely normal in its home deep in the ocean. The only reason it looks like that is because it was pulled from the pressure of the depths to the surface killing it in the process and deforming its structure.

Blobfish in it's environment reminds me of the aquarium fish plecostomus. Appearances are deceptive, no surprise that the media would pick up on /emphasize appearance as negative rather then "unusual, fascinating, we need to learn more" etc. Nicely presented, thank you for sharing the story of one of many interesting ocean creatures.

My weird idea -- could you mimic a human -- or other familiar animal -- being forced to great depths and great pressure? Might help people understand, although the bag of water was a nice, simple demo.

These fishes can do deep deep into the water and because of the pressure of the water when they try to go back up they pressure does this to them my brothers teacher told them it's pressure that causes them to come out like this

There are many of deep-sea creatures that we don't have video of. We've been aware of the giant squid (which is much, much larger than the blobfish) for centuries . . . and only captured one on video in 2012.

***** You have to get lucky when you are in a submersible at extreme depths to get good video of deep sea species. Sometimes the naturalists get samples of or trawlers catch these deep sea fish but they get bloated from the pressure change as they are brought to the surface. They rarely survive the ordeal.

Where's the super low bass flute? beyond that ... I think blobfish are beautiful at sea level! One of my absolute favorite animals, second only to the Octopus. They're super smart and able to morph in 3D as well as have a "brain" in every one of their suckers. We don't know enough about blobfish ... except that I think that at sea level, they're one of the most wonderful creatures on earth.

The "Pink gelatinous fish" is the destroyed version of the blobfish from being torn to the surface, as explained. Look up blobfish underwater in google please, you'll see what it looks like before it's torn 3000+ feet above its natural habitat. Please stop saying how amazing this pink deflated abused animal looks, and use a live healthy one to compliment. It's not even the same color or in the same form because it's so destroyed. I'd be very surprised if it's even alive by the time it turns pink.
