In Louisiana, where COVID hospitalizations are at an all-time high, patients say they're sorry they did not get vaccinated. Meanwhile, a doctor tells CBS News’ David Begnaud he's facing two pandemics, COVID-19 and misinformation.
Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs.

. . . whether from storm surges or Covid damaged lungs and hearts. I have no more time or energy to deal with them while there are others who may be helped by my time and effort. We still need our hospitals running.. So Either the Government starts using the Stadiums for Covid 19 pp. or cut the number of admitted ones in the hospital itself. like if it has 4 floors at least leave one empty for regular non covid.. and yes is SELECTING I get it.. It is also when they have to disconnect them of the vents as well. Is horrible I know! but it is also horrible to let others died who were following CDC/Guidelines and that now are in need for whatever reason... There was a Military Hero that was left to die, do not remember where Louisiana or Florida.. they were searching for a bed for more than 7 hrs!!! are you kidding me!! that is SAD!! The majority of the cause of the spread of the virus is those who don't wear masks and don't practice social distancing. Vaccinated or not, a person can still get Covid and spread it around. The vaccine does not prevent the infection and anyone can become a Covid carrier. 99% of the population will survive covid but those who are elderly, weak immune and have health issues are at high risk. If you don't want the vaccine, that's your right, but please be mindful to others and wear your mask and practice social distancing.

a mutagenic virus will not 'burn itself out', as long as there is population hosts to infect, it will continue to infect hosts and adapt/replicate into newer and newer strains until one that may be vaccine resistant and endanger everyone. We had our window of 85% vaccination to achieve herd immunity which would have eradicated it. Simple scientific facts.

As a medical doctor working in a hospital with several hundred COVID-19 patients, it's interesting to see how much less PPE these doctors wear. In my hospital (outside of the U.S.) anyone going to a place with COVID-19 patients dons a full "bunny suit" with a hood that encloses the head, N95 mask, goggles and face shield. Unfortunately, this government-run hospital doesn't have air conditioning for most patient wards and health care workers call their PPE a "sauna suit". Despite dripping in sweat, HCWs just tolerate it, as there is no one else that can help these patients.

At the urgent care I went to person after person were coming in sick coughing up a storm, kids hacking etc and almost all asking for Covid testing and not only was everyone with Covid symptoms or not waiting in the same small waiting room together but the staff including the doctor all wore paper mask. No googles, no face mask. Nothing. My son had a sore throat and the doctor was looking down his throat in his face with only a paper mask protecting him. Same thing when we went to a drive through Covid testing site. Some wore N95s but most staff had one mask, paper or cloth on. No eye wear etc. I even saw one staff member lean completely inside a car to swab 2 very sick coughing children to test them for Covid and the kids were screaming and crying at the top of their lungs letting those airborne droplets fly and the staff member had no protection except a paper mask on. I'm a nurse. I really don't get the lack of PPE being used. Everyone has become very lax. It's no wonder it's spreading like crazy.
@Vendemiair
@Vendemiair 2 жыл бұрын
@@venusmiranda9898 Wow, that's a terrible thing to hear. Those paper masks don't really help in protecting against aerosol (very fine droplets), and we know that aerosol is mainly responsible for transmitting COVID-19 (especially for the more infectious variants like Delta). I live in a third-world country but people doing the swab tests are given the same PPE as those working directly with COVID-19 patients. I wonder if the problem you mentioned is the lack of PPE per se or those are actually available but the medical personnel just choose to use less PPE for reasons like comfort, it's less cumbersome, etc. It's certainly a choice I won't make because I use an N95 mask even outside of the hospital. Same for the rest of my family and we've never gotten COVID-19.

In my opinion if somebody has a heart attack, is in a car accident or another severe medical emergency that is not related to COVID-19 they should prioritize them over an unvaccinated COVID-19 patient. In other words, if a unit has 20 total beds and 11 of those beds are occupied by unvaccinated persons with COVID-19 and then 1 person comes in with a heart attack, they should kick one of the unvaxxed COVID-19 patients out to make room. If another person is in a horrible car wreck then kick another one out and so on and so on, and if the unvaxxed COVID-19 patient that gets kicked out dies, then oh well. They made the choice to not get vaccinated so they should have to live, or die, with the consequences.

I, too, know someone who was unvaccinated, got Covid, and went to the hospital. Spent weeks there, and today needs supplemental oxygen. 48 year old healthy person prior to Covid. I'm thankful this person did not die, but I don't know that I could sit in the same room with this person again. Why? Because I also know a cancer patient whose life saving surgery was delayed a month due to Covid patients. After a month, new scans show the cancer progressed and the cancer patient is no longer eligible for surgery. Heartbreaking.

The moral argument should be 'get vaccinated to protect YOUR family and loved ones'. On the other side, if a person has gone on record as 'not gonna do it', for WHATEVER reason, and later that person is diagnosed with Covid, then they should be wholly responsible for their treatment and recovery, including forfeiting any hospitalizations and countermeasures. I'm sorry, but they made the choice....

Libertarian here, we make our own choices, but we have to live with them. Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Texas have no vaccine or masks mandates, your choice. Do Not Ask For Federal Assistance to bail out your healthcare mess. You can build your house on a swamp, but don't ask me to help with your wet basement.

I am also a Libertarian. We believe in personal responsibility...BUT, many forget that there is a caveat to that. That we also, in pursuing our own freedoms, can do so as long as we do no harm to others. You cannot claim all of your freedoms and bear no responsibilities in the process. That is exactly what they are doing. They KNOW scientifically that this disease is spreading, yet 'choose' under the guise of freedom to "harm" others by spreading it causing variants to be replicated, and worst of all...even if you do not believe science, they take up resources other responsible people need and require.
