Thank you so much for taking us to this exhibit! You both did a spectacular job of filming. I live in the U.S., and it is killing me not to be able to go to this, so this was the next best thing to being there. I read an interview with Mary Austin as she was preparing for this exhibit, and she said she wanted to make sure all of Freddie's belongings were handled properly while she was alive to oversee them. I think she was very wise, and very kind to allow the public access to Freddie's private world. Sothebys did such a beautiful job, this is just unforgettable.

I saw it last wednesday. Impossible to put in words the feelings I had. From smiling to break in tears many times! It’s breathtaking! But I didn’t like much the idea of seeing all his treasures put in auction, to end all around the world in hands of who knows who. There should be a museum, not in Garden Lodge, for sure, but it’s his legacy to humankind what is going to be put on sale. All the stuff should be together for next generations! Seeing his stage outfits up close in real life then playing back the music videos and spotting the outfits id gazed upon within touching distance was priceless. I cant see how his piano will only fetch 2-3 million that sounds ridiculous, i am estimating 7-9 million, the man wrote almost all his songs on that piano and when you think kurt cobains beaten up old acoustic sold for 6 million so i think Sotheby’s are way off. Freddie specifically said that he did not want his possessions in a stuffy museum. On the other hand, he absolutely loved auctions and participated in them constantly throughout his life. There is a reason he left his things to Mary. He knew she would follow his wishes.

@@catydee6241 How do you know he didn't want it? Because someone wrote it somewhere? Was it in his will?? NO ! it wasn't there. He didn't want his house to be a museum. If Freddie kept those costumes in the wardrobe for so long and didn't have them destroyed, then these things were a precious heirloom for him. And now a question for you. Which is better - dispersing the collection to private collections or putting these things in one place. Many places or one place. And that's what makes the fans depressed!!!

Did it again with the wrong button. I can remember watching Bohemian Rapsody on Top of the Pops and getting mad when they only showed part of the video as I had never seen anything like it before. I would also love his smaller piano. I think I could spend quite a few hours looking at everything. They have so mrany different auctions. Why are they auctioning everything apart of severe lack of space ?!! I know I couldn't afford anything. Glad you had such a great time. It must of been amazing to see everything. Whar;are you going to bid on ????

Yes Top of the Pops always did that, cut off the songs just when you were in to them. The lady who everything was left to, his girlfriend of years ago has decided to get her affairs in order and has kept some items but then wanted fans to have the opportunity to have everything else. If money was no object i'd go for some of the handwritten lyrics and the outfit he wore in the Bohemian Rhapsody music video! Thanks Lesley as always :)

@@LondonVisited- you’ve put that very graciously. I know Freddie left it all to Mary but it seems a shame that other than the month prior to auctions his fans will never have the opportunity to see these things or visit his home. Freddie’s popularity has only grown since his death especially on the heels of the resurgence of Queen with Adam Lambert and the movie, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. If it’s simply about the money she could have made even more opening the home up to the public. I don’t mean to sound petty but it seems when one is gifted the legacy of a superstar and legend they have a bit of a responsibility to share it with the world before liquidating it. Thank you so much for your detailed video and sharing this with us.

this is mostly if not all stuff that Mary Austin is getting rid of no? She said she was going to keep a few personal items but a bulk of the contents of Garden Lodge had to go,maybe it was too hard seeing it,or her getting older and not wanting his life left to vultures when she's gone..who knows..amazing collection though. Freddy picked Mary to own all this stuff and do whatever she wanted with it. She has offspring, and she’s getting older. I’d do the same thing for my family too.

Freddie and Mary made this plan before he died. Mary was to live in Garden Lodge and enjoy Freddie's collections as long as she wanted. Freddie did not want his home turned into a museum or open to the public, it was his private sanctuary and he wanted Garden Lodge to be alive with a family. Freddie wanted his collections to be loved and treasured by the people who were the highest bidder, just like how he acquired them. Freddie's favorite place in London was Sotheby's and he would have been thrilled at what a wonderful spectacular event "Freddie Mercury a World of His Own" was.
