.. and extremely dangerous. These guys wear that loose clothing and are jumping around in all that sand and debris and metal shavings in sandals with no protective gear of any kind including respirators. I'm amazed we haven't seen a one of them with missing fingers or toes. THAT tells you how aware and attentive they are to their work. My guess is that many of them might die young from vicious respiratory illnesses and disease. You can see all the dust and foundry gasses filling the air. There's no way you can avoid long term ill effects from that. As tough as these guys are, the fact is that this is brutal dangerous work.

iv been a patternmaker for 15 years. I have never seen anything like this. No pattern, really just a jig and a bunch cores making the outside shape. we usually just make a loose pattern for large gears like this. While its impressive, its wildly inefficient. I assume they only need one of these made.

Respect for their skill and the design of the pattern equipment. The dark areas on the cores that give the gear shape are a carbonaceous coating to stop the metal "burning" into the sand giving a very rough and hard to machine surface at the hotest areas ie in the valley of the gear. I spent 25 years in a foundry and this is one of the best casting processes using basic equipment I've seen. Introduction says "iron" but looking at the chips coming off the machine tool it is steel.

They are ingenious in finding ways to cull the population. In America they slow kill you via the junk food diet and you have the highest prison population in the world in which the prisons are private run for profit and the prisoners are used for slave labour. Then they brainwash you with sportsball and get you to wave flags whilst singing "God bless America, the land of the free", whilst sending your children off to fight and die in foriegn lands for your corporate masters. The foundry I used to work in for a little while had patterns to make the molds for the casting. They lined up the patterns in a casing, put it in a mold machine that filled and packed the pattern, then they had a hardened sand mold. The assembled the molds to make whatever it was they were making, encased it all in a huge steel casing, they poured it. After it cooled enough, it went through a shaker to loosen up all the red hot sand, then through a shot blast to pee, off any molding sand, then off to have all the flash cut or ground off. Then it went to machining, all on digital machines, and painting if needed. The molten steel ladles were ten times as big.

Steel comes in all sorts of varieties. Without being an even grade, you're going to end up with tons of uneven stresses and unavoidable failure points during use. 90% of the way there might work for a while, but it's when you actually need to stress something that the cracks begin to show eventually. Maybe this is done cheap enough to make that worthwhile, but that can also be dangerous for anyone operating the machines these go into. So it does have its costs.

To the "college" students in America. THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL WORKING FOR A LIVING.

Yes. Spending 12 hours in life threatening work conditions for $4 is real work. Those college educated Americans earning $90,000 per year have no idea what they're missing out on

I study at uni precisely so that people don't have to work like this. Capability requires both experience and knowledge. Experience will only get you so far.

To all the doomsday climate worriors out there, you try telling this bunch of hard working families that we should sacrafice our whole world economy by going green and making people unemployed....... we got intelligence thank you ..... we can learn to live with the change in the climate, use technologies to keep safe, and to enjoy the benefits a warmer world will bring us, especially to those who have gorgeous shoreline but cold waters.

Not much safety going on here. Some workers are barefoot. No barriers to protect from falls. That is also why these jobs go overseas.

You have to ask yourself, where are they getting all of this scrap metal from and what international trade deal led to this? They are over there making gears and car and truck parts but there is no quality control as far as the hardness of the steel. Making gears from scrap without knowing the hardness of the steel can be a bad idea of soft steel that wears out or breaks. Smelting scrap metal into castings is an old idea. Sand castings was done in the United States and Europe for years, but the difference was that the ingredients going into the mix was known. Part iron, part nickel, part molybdenum, part other ingredients led to alloys with known characteristics and strengths and uses. All steel and all scrap is not the same. If one of those gears ends of in your new GM 10 speed automatic and fails its going to cost you $8,000. dollars to replace or rebuild. Are we really profiting and or saving money with this? You can take a big pile of scrap metal and smelt it with iron ore and nickel and produce a very strong high quality steel with very high hardness. They can't do that over there. Warped brake rotors, bad bearings, parts failures in equipment are expensive and labor as well. Cheap tools made from castings are no bargain. So, we are going to have to examine these trade deals like NAFTA which have led to this and undermined industry in the West. These people are skilled workers and make only 10 dollars a day. It is a failure in banking to make proper loans and to make currency available in all nations. It is greed in order to maximize profits which takes advantage of poorer nations which is actually costing society with lower quality products and expensive repair and replacement cost. Some of this stuff is being shipped back to the United States and ending up in construction and transportation vehicles. I watch these videos and have alot of respect for these men over there working under terrible conditions. We have to do better for the people of the world. These Europeans that own everything including the banks are really greedy and we Americans who also started out as a Colony understand this more than most, more than the Europeans how important it is to be treated fairly.
